Chapter 075: Escalation!
Zhang Shaoqing, as expected, did get heatstroke. After being taken to the infirmary and given some medication, he was now listlessly lying on a bed, resting under a fan.
“So many troublesome things… glad it’s finally over.”
Ning Chu lay sprawled across the dorm room desk, absentmindedly playing with the little black cat he had placed on the table, yawning repeatedly.
Although the antagonist had another episode today, it was clear that there were no signs of him turning evil. It looked just like a normal reaction to a breakup—crying and throwing a fit like a child.
He couldn’t help but curl his lips into a smile. Now that Zhang Shaoqing had vented his emotions properly, there was even less chance of him turning into a villain.
But then, a bothersome figure caught his eye, causing the smile that had just appeared on his face to vanish immediately.
Wen Yang…
This guy was rebellious, eager to find a girlfriend, and there were even signs that his affection towards Ning Chu was too high—raising the possibility that things could escalate in an unwanted direction.
What a headache~
Even though Ning Chu wanted to keep his distance from Wen Yang, he couldn’t just sit back and watch one of the plot characters take Wen Yang’s virginity. If that happened, there would be no way to turn things around.
But every time he disrupted the plot, his appearance became more feminine, more attractive... The prettier he became, the more likely Wen Yang was to develop feelings for him.
This affection was most likely just a mating desire triggered by seeing a beautiful female!
Ning Chu sighed, rubbing his temples with both hands as he glanced over at the wardrobe.
Inside the wardrobe, his suitcase was already packed to the brim with daily necessities and a change of clothes, ensuring he could grab it and run at any moment.
If it weren’t for the fear of encountering unknown dangers by leaving the protagonist, he would have bolted long ago.
Might as well accept the situation!
Running away wouldn’t solve anything!
It might even make Wen Yang the main character of the story, which would be even worse!
It was obvious that Wen Yang had strong feelings for him, but Ning Chu could intensify his control, making Wen Yang even more rebellious. That way, he could both sabotage the plot and make Wen Yang resent him.
Ning Chu thought this plan was quite good.
As long as he could keep his control at a level that made Wen Yang dislike him but not to the point of outright hostility, wouldn’t that keep him safe?
Damn it! To avoid being taken advantage of, he was willing to throw away all his dignity!
In the past, Ning Chu had given Wen Yang some freedom and trust, even pretending to be a nice guy who cared about Wen Yang, just to avoid too much resentment and rejection. But now, he wasn’t going to pretend anymore!
If this didn’t work, then he might just have to find a dark, windy night and cut off Wen Yang’s offending tool!
Worst case, he could always run away if things went south.
“Beep~”
The sudden sound interrupted Ning Chu’s thoughts. He looked up to see the ceiling fan slowly coming to a stop, and the air conditioner losing power.
“Power outage?” Wang Jie was the first to notice the problem. “When did we last top up the electricity?”
The water in the school was free, but electricity cost fifty cents per kilowatt-hour.
Wen Yang walked over to the drawer to look for the power card, suggesting, “We just started the semester. Transfer the money to me, and I’ll top up the electricity—thirty yuan each.”
“Okay, hurry up, it’s hot as hell~”
“Damn! How did the power go out!”
Ning Chu glanced at the now energized and shouting Zhang Shaoqing, grabbed the power card, and turned the door handle to leave.
However, as he was closing the door, a small yelp of pain came from behind him.
Wen Yang instinctively turned around, only to see that Ning Chu’s arm had been caught in the door as he closed it, causing him to quickly ask, “Are you okay? How did you walk so quietly?”
“I’m fine.” Ning Chu’s face was pale with pain, but after glancing at his arm, he saw that it wasn’t injured.
Taking a few deep breaths to ease the pain, he looked up at Wen Yang’s concerned face.
Immediately, he suppressed the furrowed brows and pitiful expression caused by the pain, putting on a straight face as he stepped out into the dorm hallway, acting as if nothing had happened. “Let’s go. I was just about to buy a drink.”
From now on, he would be watching Wen Yang twenty-four hours a day! He wouldn’t let Wen Yang have the chance to even talk to random girls! He would make Wen Yang dislike and reject him!
His spirits were high, thinking he had found the perfect solution.
Not even parents, spouses, or best friends could stand this kind of near-surveillance control!
“What do you want to buy? I can pick it up for you.”
“No way, didn’t you say yesterday that you didn’t mind me controlling you, and that I should approve any girlfriend you find?” Ning Chu occasionally sped up his pace, jogging to keep up with Wen Yang’s strides. “If you go out alone, what if you get tricked by a bad woman?”
“Control... That’s called screening.”
Wen Yang realized that Ning Chu had shorter legs and a smaller stride, so he slowed down, chuckling as he shook his head. “Why do you seem so tense?”
“I’m just being a concerned roommate.”
Ning Chu casually made up an excuse, his eyes quickly scanning Wen Yang’s face, trying to find a hint of impatience.
But there wasn’t any.
No worries, this was just the beginning!
From now on, even if Wen Yang just went next door, Ning Chu would stick to him like glue. He would make him impatient! Make him rebel in disgust! Completely extinguish that little spark of affection!
At noon, several students could be seen in the hallway.
Ning Chu glanced around casually, the sight of shirtless or nearly naked guys wandering around made his scalp tingle, as if he were surrounded by wolves.
“Damn! There’s a girl here!”
A more bashful student exclaimed, blushing furiously as he dashed back into his dorm room.
Ning Chu’s expression stiffened, feeling conflicted.
Should he be glad that the world of this novel wasn’t completely devoid of normal people, just that there was a higher proportion of perverts?
Or should he be upset that his appearance had gradually changed from a youthful, boyish look to something that could be mistaken for a girl at first glance?
If it were just his face becoming more feminine, it wouldn’t be too bad. After all, there were plenty of attractive men. But his body, his aura, the hormones he emitted were now no different from those of a normal female.
Only that little worm remained as a testament to his male dignity.
Wen Yang noticed his discomfort and, while walking, tried to comfort him. “Looks are something you’re born with. If you’re mistaken, then so be it.”
“Mm…”
Following Wen Yang down the stairs to the first-floor lobby of the dorm building, Ning Chu’s eyes unconsciously drifted toward the security office near the entrance.
Through the glass window, he saw the burly dorm supervisor chatting happily with a petite girl.
So the dorm supervisor’s storyline is starting too…
This plot was one of the few purely romantic 1v1 subplots in the book, although the age gap between the male and female protagonists was rather extreme.
Ning Chu considered whether he should report this somewhat inappropriate relationship to the school to disrupt the plot.
But the dorm supervisor’s storyline was just a filler side story, and he had no beef with the guy...
Quickly shifting his gaze away to avoid being noticed, he looked up again only to see Wen Yang already outside the dorm building, and hurried to catch up.
“Where do we top up the electricity?”
“At the service center on the first floor of the teaching building.” Wen Yang grumbled, “What era is this, and we still can’t pay the bills online?”
“True.”
