Chapter 311 Return

"True Flame." The two balls of fire came descending with their impending doom. I had no choice, if I wanted the people of the capital to survive, I would have to stop it before it struck the ground.

I spun, my hammer in hand and I flung it to the flames. The Forger's Hammer zoomed at incredible speed, and almost like it had a mind of its own.

The dragon lords merely watched my weapon approach their special attacks, I remained anxious, hovering.

The hammer struck the fireballs causing it to implode. The sky shook at the explosion and a powerful shockwave emanated from the area. I was able to withstand the force, getting merely pushed back, the demons, wyverns and some of the Eastern Theocracy soldiers however weren't that lucky. The force of the shockwave crushed their bones.

I held out my arm hoping to retrieve my hammer, and though it took longer than it normally would, it came down falling to me. That was when I caught the sight of the dragon lords, they came down and through the explosion, unscathed and unbothered. Read exclusive chapters at empire

One got to my hammer and took hold of it. My hammer didn't submit to its grip however, and it came despite the dragon lord's strong grip, albeit slowly.

The other dragon lord drifted past his partner, and in the blink of an eye was by my left flank, sending a punch to my ribs.

I lunged my arms for his, caught it, and spun it, using his momentum against him and flinging him to the side. I threw blades of wind which only served to push him further away.

I zoomed up to my hammer, calling my Hellish Dark Blade to me. The dragon lord was still occupied with trying to rein over the hammer when I drove my hellish dark blade through his chest where I supposed the heart was. It screamed and loosened its grip on the hammer. My blade roared as it consumed its soul, and it gleamed a fiery light once it did.

I turned to the other dragon lord and I could see the shock in his face.

I raised my sword, and at its tip sprouted balls of dark flames further amped by the power of the hellish dark blade.

About a dozen hovered about me, and I directed them at the dragon lord. He countered with flames of his, thrusting his arms and releasing a barrage of fire.

Most of my dark flames were extinguished by his when he caught one of my dark flames in his hand.

"Spectacular." I heard him say.

He curled his hand momentarily releasing it, and then, he called it back. He positioned it on his fingertip, holding out his other hand.

Suddenly, a large wisp of dark flame sprouted on it and he clenched his fists soon after, extinguishing the flame.

"Interesting and impressive, but still short of true flame." A large fire ball sprouted from his occupied hand, swallowing up the dark flame, and he hurled it my way.

Though I like to think that I could rein over the true flame, and perhaps replicate it, I wasn't confident about my chances in that moment and instead I sent forward the wind, sending powerful wisps, and willing them with my fingers, spinning the fireball and sending it hurling back to the dragon lord.

He caught it like a praying mantis nipping a butterfly, and shrunk it in his hand. He flicked the shrunk fireball, and it zoomed at me so fast.

I activated <Haven> instinctively, and the fireball crashed on it creating a large cloud of smoke. I swept the smoke away with my wind control, revealing myself to be totally unscathed within my Haven.

This angered the dragon lord however as I saw his face contort into an ugly frown. I smirked at his dissatisfaction. I let off my grip around the hellish dark blade, and held the Forger's Hammer instead.

I heard the blade groan once I let my grip off it, I suspect it was hungry for the soul of this dragon lord.

I created a large jagged mass of ice and struck it with the Forger's Hammer sending it down at the dragon lord. He responded with a spittle of flame that melted the ice and drifted to me. It didn't make a dent on my haven however.

I smirked, feeling in control of the battle.

"My turn." I said, flooding my body with energy and undoing haven. I jetted to the dragon lord, and ran a lightning bolt through my hammer.

Perhaps it was the speed at which I came, or the dragon lord was stunned by my display of power. Either way, I got to it before it could react, and I swung my hammer to its face.

BOOM!

The Forger's Hammer struck his face squarely, causing his face to explode from within. I watched as his scales parted away to the flesh that burst through, and half of his face was gone, yet he lived.

I fought some more, thrusting my lightning coated hand on his chest. I sent a powerful lightning bolt across his body, and the dragon lord wailed like he had never wailed before.

I swiftly spun to his back and struck his back with my hammer. Again, another clean hit, and I heard the crack of bones, and the muffled yelp that escaped his mouth, and he fell.

"About time!" I yelled and turned to face the battle.

I felt a slithery feeling by my ear, and a feeling of chill and disgust ran down my body.

"You fought well." I heard them say.

I could tell that this was it, they were already two steps ahead and I had too little time to react.

My eyes were closed, but when I noticed that death didn't come as I expected it would at that moment, I slowly opened my eyes to see what was up.

I teleported away from my spot, and swiftly turned to where I was to see the hand of a dragon lord imbedded in the chest of Lucy.

"Lucy!" I screamed.

"Miss me?" Though I couldn't see her, I was certain that there was a smirk on her face.

She gripped the dragon lord's arm and twisted, throwing him away from her. I turned to the other hovering dragon lords, and they seemed to be just watching.

"I suppose we both get to face this one."

"Yes," Lucy answered, already regenerating from the otherwise fatal attack.

It was at that moment I saw Park zooming from the palace, and a smile went across my face. Perhaps it was the joy I felt with Lucy's presence, but I felt we had a real chance in winning this.
