Chapter 191 The Second Effect
Chapter 191 The Second Effect
However, that did not mean the System did not have tricks it could employ. Soon, it came up with a plan.
The current situation, though it was precarious, it was perfect. The System quickly understood that the three Ghouls would not attack unless they had no choice. Thus, all it had to do was play a game of deception.
'Go on. I'll be waiting.'
With that in mind, the System simply waited for them to execute their plan.
Time quickly passed, and the last 153 Siren's Melody Eggs were cracked and carefully slid into the large pot.
It was only then a sudden movement was made by the eldest Ghoul, Ichi.
[Ni, give San the Voidtear Essence.]
After the vial was handed to San, Ichi continued, [San, pour the Voidtear Essence in the corner of the kitchen.]
San's expression changed upon hearing those words. He sighed.
[I hate being the fastest.]
Because of his superior speed, he was always given the most dangerous tasks.
Even so, with the vial in hand, San walked to the designated area — the corner of the kitchen.
Hidden in the alternate Dimension, San's movements went unnoticed by Lucian, Duan Mu, and Mei. But, of course, the same could not be said about the System. Enjoy more content from empire
With madness burning in his eyes, San uncorked the vial and watched as the obsidian-colored liquid turned completely invisible. Not even his Mana Sense could sense the liquid within the vial. It was completely untraceable and odorless.
But San knew the liquid was still there, and with that in mind, he took a deep breath, took a quick glance at the people in the kitchen, making sure they were preoccupied, and plunged his hand out into reality.
Then, he tilted the vial.
By the time the Voidtear Essence fell, San had already taken his hand back. He was quick and decisive… and it had nothing to do with the fact that he was a coward.
On the other hand, the invisible Voidtear Essence lay suspended in mid-air, while waves of shockwaves pulsed outward from it.
'It's searching.' The System chuckled as it watched the harmless shockwaves.
That was the second effect of the Voidtear Essence. Like a moth to a flame, the Voidtear Essence was drawn to the greatest source of Mana.
And within moments, the shockwaves found what it was looking for and retracted to give the information. Then, the Voidtear Essence flew and seamlessly integrated into the Low-Grade Mana Water and Starlight Vinegar in the pot.
The process was done smoothly and silently. No one but the System was even aware of what transpired, not even the Ghoul Brothers.
However, with their years of experience, they were confident the Voidtear Essence flew into the pot. After all, the pot contained the most concentrated Mana in the kitchen.
Ichi then grinned.
[Let's go. The mission is over.]
Confident in their success, the trio left as silently as came.
Once they were out of sight, the System chuckled and explained everything that it saw and heard to its Host.
[Ghouls… three of them. Breaking in to ruin my dish. How annoying. Do you know what they look like?] Lucian asked the System, disregarding that it did not inform him as soon as it sensed the three Ghouls.
In a way, Lucian agreed with the System's method. Sometimes, knowing too much would affect the outcome. Letting the System handle the situation without his interference allowed the natural flow of events to continue.
The System replied. [I do. If we ever encounter them again, I will inform the Host.]
[Alright.] Lucian was satisfied for the time being. He then continued, [Now then, how do you plan to remove the Voidtear Essence? If it's not removed, the Siren's Melody Eggs will lose their Mana. Even worse, anyone who ingests the eggs will slowly be drained of their Mana until nothing but their dried-up corpse remains.]
The situation he found himself in was grave. If the Voidtear Essence was not taken care of soon, the Mana in the Siren's Melody Eggs would be destabilized. If that were to happen he would be left with glorified Grade 0 chicken eggs.
Moreover, not only would his reputation be ruined, but anyone who consumed the 153 Siren's Melody Eggs would be as good as dead.
For a chef, this was the worst possible outcome. Once his reputation was ruined, no matter how delicious his food was, he would lose customers. Even his regular customers like Lion's Livers would be hesitant to patronize his restaurant for fear of dying.
'Damn. I swear if I encounter those abominations again, I'll flay their skins with my kitchen knife and then tear them limb from limb.'
Lucian was not being overly dramatic. This was the first time his glorious reputation as a chef might be ruined. Infuriatingly, it would be at the hands of Ghouls…
After a long moment, Lucian sighed. 'If only I had enough time to make another batch of Siren's Melody Eggs.'
Lucian slightly regretted waiting until the last second to cook. He was too confident. Though, he could not be blamed. How was he supposed to know three Ghouls would come to sabotage his dishes?
Just then, while Lucian was lost in regret, the System's calm and mechanical voice sounded in his head, [Host, there are no helpless situations. Every problem has a solution. You just need to calm your mind and think. I, for one, have two solutions. The Voidtear Essence is a tricky poison to deal with, but it's not undefeatable. The poison hasn't combined with the Siren's Melody Eggs yet.
We can use that to our advantage. What we know is that the poison is drawn to concentrated Mana. If we can create an even greater concentration of Mana or bring in a powerful Mage at the Mana Vein Tempering Realm or higher, the Voidtear Essence will leave the pot and fly to it.]
Suddenly, several System Notifications appeared in Lucian's mind.
