Chapter 1354 Arriving at the big river village
Murong Si felt his heart jump out of his throat. If he had known this would happen, he would have gone along with his mother and worked in the fields, no matter how Murong Tai stopped him!
"Got you," Murong Tai spoke from behind and just as Murong Si thought that she had caught him, he saw her peek at the bush next to him. From where a small lizard ran past leaving Murong Tai fume.
"Where did that bastard hide?" She cursed as she ran her fingers through her hair. Murong Tai wanted to at least have a taste of that mer before sending him off. It would be too much of a loss for her if she was to sleep with someone's else sloppy seconds.
She had deliberately asked her mother to let Murong Si stay behind as it would tan his skin before his marriage. Old Madam Murong agreed with her and she did not take Murong Si to the fields, Murong Tai thought that it was her chance to make her move. Read new chapters at empire
However, Murong Si was smarter. He seemed to have cottoned on what she was doing and immediately ran out of the house leaving her to look for him.
"If I get my hands on him," Murong Tai trailed off, though she did not say anything Murong Si knew what she was going to do to him. He shivered and hid himself even more in the corner where he was hiding. Murong Si knew that if he made even a single sound and ended up being caught by Murong Tai, she would definitely not let him off until he lost everything.
With his hands clamped on his mouth, Murong Si stared at Murong Tai sideways. That woman looked around for a while as she moved the bushes and the boulders aside, just as Murong Si was worried that she would raise her head and see him sitting on the highest branch of the tree where he was hiding——
Murong Tai spat on the ground and walked away. Murong Si waited until she was gone and heaved a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he was not caught or else.
Murong Si held his hand in front of his chest while trying to calm down the raging heartbeat inside of his chest. This won't do, he needed to go and visit Madam Yu once again. He had to ask her for a job even if she did not open the mine.
As long as he was working and was away from home, Murong Tai would think twice before coming to his room with their mother in the house. At least with Old Madam Murong, he would be able to keep his virtue. No matter how much Old Madam Murong hated him, she would make sure that he and his virtue would be left alone.
"I will go and look for her tomorrow," Murong Si muttered as he looked at the setting sun that was casting an orange glow over the horizon as well as the village. Now he needed to wait for the moon to rise only then he would be able to get back home. Even if it meant getting a scolding from his mother.
****-*-*-*-
While Murong Si was sitting at the top of the branch waiting for the moon to rise, there was someone else who was anxious and impatient. Madam Cui looked out of the window with her foot bobbing up and down as she stared at the lush green grass and the even road. She turned to look at Song Yixu and asked, "How long till we arrive?"
She had been waiting patiently but the Big River Village had yet come in sight!
Song Yixu looked at the impatient look on Madam Cui's face and then said to her with a small smile, "Master, it takes three days to travel from the City of Fu to Big River Village. Of course, we would reach it by sunset as we have been travelling for more than two days."
Madam Cui pursed her lips. She did not show it on her face but she had been waiting eagerly to see this village, from what Song Yixu told her, this village was not only flourishing it also had water!
What was the most important thing that the citizens of this nation were missing most at the moment? It was water!
Madam Cui wanted nothing more but to drink three no four cups of water without any restraint and impurities!
The rest of the Cui family was the same, Eldest Miss Cui peeked out of the window of her carriage and then turned to look at her husband before asking, "Do you think that Madam Song is really bringing us to a place that has food and water?"
"I don't know," Elder Master Cui shook his head as he hugged his youngest daughter tightly in his arms. "The conditions are like this, whom can we trust blindly?"
Though he agreed to follow his wife and mother-in-law, he did not trust Song Yixu. Eldest Master Cui had heard about all the things that were going on in the nation at the moment and he knew that this was not the time to trust anyone blindly.
How many of their neighbours were taken away under the pretext that they were being brought to a good place and what happened in the end? They were either sold off by their relatives for a few bags of grains or killed and cooked by their friends and family.
He would be a fool if he were to trust Song Yixu who was neither his family nor relative! At this moment, they couldn't even trust their own family members and Song Yixu was a stranger to them!
