Chapter 176 To become one with your shadow Part 1
It was a known fact that heavenly rank hunters possessed a far superior strength than ascended ones and Uriel was aware of that fact but it wasn't until Nika landed that kick that he truly understood the difference.
The kick carried so much force, Uriel's nose was completely demolished and if it wasn't for Water warlock's blessing he would have lost the fight but, fortunately for him, he was able to recover from that gruesome blow in an instant.
He thought back at the time where he fought against Rocky who had just become a heavenly rank, but the strength of a novice wasn't comparable to that of Nika who had been a heavenly rank for years. The longer a person remained in their rank, the better they could adjust to their capabilities and Nika had enough time turn her body into a deadly weapon.
She knew full well how powerful she was and the kind of damage she was capable of inflicting on an ascended hunter like Uriel, which is why she remained stunned in place when she saw him standing back up like nothing happened.
Noticing Nika's shocked expression, Uriel realized that an opportunity like this would not repeat itself since it was the first time she was distracted enough to give him a chance to actually win the fight.
The reason for this was because Nika could vanish in the shadows whenever she wanted to and she could drag the fight for as long as she wanted, but that was true only if she was aware of the incoming attack.
Without a second thought, Uriel took this chance and leapt forward closing the distance in an instant.
He didn't care if she blocked the attack because his fist carried the boost in strength he received whenever he activated the blessing allowing him to surpass the limits of his rank and the momentum of the jump performed with the help of the Dash skill making this the most powerful attack Uriel could possibly perform in his current state.
This meant that no matter how she blocked, Nika would still end up injured.
If she blocked with a hand the most likely outcome that one or two bones would result broken, but there was simply no way she could remain unhurt after receiving an attack that would most likely be enough to leave a gaping hole in an entity rank cryptid and unlike Uriel, she couldn't heal herself and would be forced to admit her defeat again.
What Uriel didn't count on, though, was that Nika's guard was low and she wasn't ready to neither block or dodge the incoming attack. His movement was so fast that Nika would receive the full impact of his fist directly on the face and given the force of his strike she would most likely end up dead.
Unfortunately, Uriel realized this too late and there was nothing he could do to stop his attack and he was left with no choice but to open his palm to lessen the impact.
The palm strike was so powerful it created a small gust of wind and the clapping sound echoed loudly on the walls of the factory they called home.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to take things this far!" Uriel cancelled both Dash and the blessing, then he hurriedly apologized thinking that he may have caused too much harm.
"Did you just try to kill me?" Half of her face was painted black with her shadow armor and when it disappeared it was possible to see that she was unharmed.
"I didn't, I swear I'm not lying." Uriel tried to think of an excuse but couldn't think of anything that would make him look less guilty.
"I believe you," She sighed. "I guess you just didn't know how fucking dangerous that was. If it wasn't for my shadow armor I might have been killed."
"Wait, you do believe me?"
"I do. There's this 'sense' all heavenly ranked are capable of developing that allow us to determine whether someone is trying to kill us. I always thought it was a myth and whenever I felt it I just thought people were staring at my ass. I always thought Flanagan was a pervert, but it turns out he had been wanting to kill me for a long time."
"If it's similar to my mystical sense I don't see how you could have thought that."
"You have the 'sense' too!? You're too strong to be an ascended, maybe you should get tested again. Anyway, the reason I always thought people were staring at my ass was because they always did it when I had my back turned on them, never to my face and girls always know when men stare at them."
Uriel wasn't a creep, just a healthy young man, but he made a mental note on her words and decided to avoid staring as much as possible nonetheless. He also checked his system app briefly to see if he was now a heavenly rank, but he wasn't too shocked to learn that he remained as an ascended.
After all, he knew that the source of his power wasn't due to his trait but to the blessing Water warlock bestowed upon him.
"I do have a mystical sense, though it mostly allows me to sense cryptids and it's not that reliable."
"So that's how you always knew when I came out of your shadow!" Nika finally realized how odd it was that Uriel always seemed to notice her presence before she used her trait. "Something is bothering me, though. How did you recover so fast from my kick? I would think your trait is defense, but I'm sure I felt a crack."
"Whenever I activate Water warlock's blessing I feel strangely powerful. While I'm in that state I can recover from any injury almost instantly."
"Could it be? No way, there's never been a mention of something like a hunter possessing two traits at the same time." Nika couldn't grasp the idea of Water warlock's blessing, though she realized there was something off about it. "The reason why a hunter can not possess two traits is because whenever something like that would happen, the result will always be a merge in both of them."
"I told you, it's not a trait, it's a blessing. I got it along with the dagger."
"Sure, sure, but it's a trait. I'm absolutely certain about it."
"You just said it's impossible." Uriel was in a daze.
"There's only one possibility then, there's someone else in your body. You've been possessed."
