Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 303 The Idol Kai

Chapter 303 The Idol Kai

The girls from Juren High quickly took videos and photos of Kai as he continued standing in the center of the court.

"The angle's weird!" one of them exclaimed.

"Make sure to get his good angle," the prettiest girl said. "I'm going to have these printed out into posters."

Other fans also brought out their phones and started snapping away.

Bao looked around and couldn't help but chuckle.

"It feels like I'm in a concert," he said. His friends nodded in agreement.

Meanwhile, Lina choked back a sob as she looked at the players with celebratory smiles on their faces. This was as first for the all of them, so they felt more emotional than usual.

Coach Muchen didn't bother hiding his emotions, though. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he observed the group of boys.

"I knew that we'd be able to do it!" Jet exclaimed. "I just felt it in the fourth quarter."

Jinping nodded excitedly. "Me too!" he exclaimed.

"Why aren't you excited?" Jet asked, turning to Kun with furrowed eyebrows.

Kun snapped out of his thoughts, a wide smile finally appearing his face.

"Sorry, I'm beat. Of course, I'm happy!" he exclaimed. "We're heading to the semi-finals, baby!"

With his statement, the boys burst into cheers once more.

"Let's do our team cheer," Lina said, and the others excitedly agreed.

"Wait, wait. We're missing someone!" Andy exclaimed.

Then, they collectively turned their gazes to the court, where they saw Kai still standing in the middle, appearing dazed.

Renren shook his head in amusement.

"I'll go bring him," he said.

Jinping clicked his tongue. "We can still do it without him."

Lina unhesitantly slapped the back of his head, causing his eyes to widen in surprise.

"Oww!" he exclaimed. "Were you a volleyball player in your past life?"

Meanwhile, Renren went over to where Kai was and placed his arm around his shoulder.

Kai snapped out of his reverie and glanced at Renren.

"Come on, bud," Renren said. "It's time to go."

Kai pursed his lips as he felt tears brimming in his eyes.

"Let's go," Kai muttered.

With that, the two of them walked towards the bench, where the other players were waiting for Kai with open arms.

"Come on," Lina said with a soft smile.

Kai nodded and joined their circle. Lina placed her hand at the very bottom, and Kai quickly went and placed his hand on top of hers.

They lifted their heads and made eye contact for a moment. Their smiles mirrored each other's as the other players placed their hands on top of theirs.

"Shizi Dogs!" Lina exclaimed in a loud, proud voice.

"Fight! Fight! Fight!" the boys screamed in unison, their sweat dripping onto each other. Some of their saliva also splattered onto their skin, but that was the least of their worries.

They were happy for the victory.

Nothing could ever change that.

The crowd screamed along with them, causing them to break away from their circle. They looked at everyone who was supporting them, and at that moment, Yuze's mind went back to the times when the court would be empty.

"Only two more games," Yuze said, capturing the other players' attention.

Jet smiled and stood beside their captain.

"Two more games and we're heading straight to the Nationals!" he exclaimed.

The team felt their hearts beating in their chests.

"Well, boys, it's been a great game," Lina said. "You guys must be exhausted from the training until this game. With that, we'll take Monday off and continue our training on Tuesday. After that, we'll have our regular trainings until the semi-finals game in two weeks."

The boys nodded and started packing their bags.

Renren merely slung his duffel bag over his shoulder before running to where his dad was.

"Dad!" Renren exclaimed. "You came?"

"Of course," his dad said with a kind smile. "I wasn't able to come to your last game because of work, and I know that you were really excited for this game, so I left work early."

Renren smiled, feeling immense happiness in his heart.

"Should we go and eat?" his dad asked.

Renren excitedly nodded.

Zeren, still feeling dejected, went over to his parents, too. They had welcoming smiles on their faces as their young son sat next to them.

"Sorry," Zeren muttered, looking down at his lap.

"What are you apologizing for, champ?" his dad exclaimed, patting his shoulder.

"You did a great job out there! You got early 10-points!"

"It's no use," Zeren muttered, his eyes straying to Shizi High's bench.

"That guy got over 20 points," he whispered, so he was the only one who was able to hear his words.

Lina and Kai were conversating, excitement seen in their eyes. The two of them looked perfect from the distance, and Zeren felt his heart squeeze once again.

"The teachers are about to head out, Sir Dao," Miss Cherry said. "Do you want to join us for dinner?"

Sir Dao shook his head. "It's alright," he said. "I know that my daughter is here somewhere."

"Ah, right," Miss Cherry muttered. "Sometimes, I still can't believe that you two are related. She must take after her mom a lot."

Sir Dao snapped his gaze toward the young teacher.

"What was that?" he asked.

Miss Cherry cleared her throat.

"Nothing," she said. "Well, we're heading out for some barbecue. See you on Monday."

Sir Dao merely nodded and waved them off, scanning the crowd for her pretty daughter.

Meanwhile, Yani was a bit anxious about what Suzy was about to do.

"Your dad is here," Yani said, holding onto Suzy's wrist.

"I know," Suzy said, clicking her tongue. "And I don't care. I need to get this off my chest."

Yani sighed and shook her head. "Seriously. Since when did you even start considering him like that?"

"I don't have time to talk right now, Yani," Suzy deadpanned, her eyes locked on one person only.

"I need to do this..." she said.

"...while everybody's around."

With that, Suzy started walking toward Kai's direction.
