From what he had seen, Lin Fan could tell that the All Time Sect should have been stronger than the Chaos Sect.

If the All Time Sect disappeared while the remnants of the Chaos Sect became the Five Great Sects, it just didn't make sense at all.

Unless there was something that happened under the surface that he didn't know about.

Before this, he could control that connection to the Pet Storage Space to tap into the large amounts of life energy that the Nine Lives Tree released. But now, he could feel that if he were to tap into the connection, there was a different form of energy that he could also pull out.

This energy was completely different from the energy that he could tap on before.

This energy was actually the exact opposite of the energy that the life energy was.

This meant that it could only be the death energy of the Nine Desolation Tree.

It seemed that the Nine Desolation Tree had grown enough that it was already releasing a large amount of death energy, so much so that Lin Fan could draw it out of the Pet Storage Space.

With a thought, there was a ball of death energy that gathered inside of Lin Fan's raised hand.

As he held this ball of death energy, he started looking carefully at it as if he was trying to see something.

Then he raised his other hand and gathered a ball of life energy in it.

Holding the two of them side by side, he looked at them carefully as if he was comparing the two of them. There was a moment where he was also bringing the two balls of energy closer to each other, as if he wanted to push them together.

But in the end, Lin Fan stopped himself from doing that.

He could feel the rejection that came from trying to force the two forms of energy together. It was an intense rejection that seemed like it wanted to rip everything apart, as if these two forms of energy just could not exist in the same space.

It wasn't hard to understand why it was like this since it was life and death energy.

Life and death were the two sides of the same coin, but to bring them together was to go against the natural laws of the world. Since it was against the natural laws, it was only reasonable that they would have such a strong rejection for one another.

Holding the two balls of energy in his hand like this, Lin Fan suddenly thought of something.

He pulled out a seed from his Storage Ring to put in his hand that had been holding the death energy and then raised the ball of life energy towards it.

The moment that the seed made contact with the ball of life energy, it was as if something had stirred it. It was as if it had been injected with energy with the way that it reacted.

There was something green that poked its way out of the seed and started to grow bigger and bigger. At the same time, there were roots that came out the other way and started growing outwards, reaching for anything that was there.

It even tried to dig into Lin Fan's hand, but it wasn't strong enough to dig into his skin.

But Lin Fan dropped the seed to the ground while still keeping the ball of life energy on it.

Once it reached the ground, it was as if the ground itself was transforming.

This ground was a part of Death Valley, which meant that it was soaked in the death energy that came from below.

But when the roots of the seed dug in, the dirt started to change. It was as if the death energy was being purified and it was being replaced with life energy instead.

The sprout continued to grow at a pace that the naked eye could follow until the plant was fully grown.

The seed that Lin Fan had taken out was for a low grade herb, so what was grown was a low grade herb.

This was an herb that was perfect for those in the Qi Gathering Realm, but even then, this wasn't the kind of place that it would grow. After all, this Death Valley was a place that was completely filled with death energy.

Lin Fan knew that it was all because of the life energy that he released that it was able to grow.

Without a word, Lin Fan suddenly cut off the life energy he supplied.

But even then, it seemed that the herb had grown to the point where it could ignore the effects of the recovering death energy for a while. It would die in time, but it was still strong enough to fight off the death energy for now.

Only Lin Fan didn't plan on letting it live.

He raised the same hand that had once contained the ball of life energy, but this time it was filled with death energy. That ball of death energy made contact with the herb the same way the life energy had.

The moment that it did, there was an immediate reaction from the herb.

The green of the herb quickly disappeared before it was replaced with a wilted brown colour.

The way that it changed, it was as if it was losing its vitality at a visible rate.

It seemed that it was only a matter of time before the herb died.

When it fully withered, Lin Fan stopped releasing the death energy and instead started releasing the life energy again.

It didn't take long for the herb to recover its colour and vitality.

Alternating between life and death energy, he was able to kill and revive the herb several more times before he revealed a satisfied look.

This was the power that he was hoping that he would be able to have with the Nine Desolation Tree growing in the Pet Storage Space. This was the power to control life and death.

Only Lin Fan knew that he had his limits.

His testing with the herb was more than enough to tell him that there was an imbalance between his life and death energy. One side was clearly stronger than the other based on the amount of time for it to take effect.

But that couldn't be blamed on the Nine Desolation Tree since it had just grown.

It had only grown because he had given it death energy, but it was a newly grown tree compared to the Nine Lives Tree. It wasn't as if he could expect it to generate the same amount of death energy as the Nine Lives Tree could generate life energy.

After a moment of pause, Lin Fan suddenly felt that something was off.

He went into the Pet Storage Space and a strange look appeared on his face.

When he arrived in the Pet Storage Space, he could tell that this place was different.

One side was filled with life energy and one side was filled with death energy.

This separation seemed natural, as if neither forms of energy wanted to approach each other. But at the same time, he could tell that there was something strange happening in the center of the Pet Storage Space.

It was only in this place where it seemed like there was something happening between the life and death energy.

He observed it for a bit before leaving the Pet Storage Space.

Looking at the herb that was still growing in the ground, Lin Fan raised a hand and pointed one finger at the herb.

He closed his eyes and seemed to be focusing on something when he pointed that finger at the herb.

Then all of a sudden…

The herb disappeared without a trace.

"This is…" Lin Fan opened his eyes to reveal a shocked look before saying this in a stunned voice.

When he recovered, he said with a smile, "This is a good trump card."
