1132 Chapter 1132
Seeing Lyra intimidating his mistress, Petros spoke up to try and clam down the situation.
"Dame Jadzi-, I mean, Your Grace. Would you please follow us to our home? This is not a good place for this conversation."
Petros and the Lamia standing next to him looked visibly uncomfortable as the eyes of every individual currently in the hotel's lobby were trained on them.
"Very well. Lead us to your abode." Lyra responded with an air of authority.
Marcus had to hold in a few chuckles seeing her act this way. The initial shock had already worn off and now he was finding the change from her usually relaxed demeanor to be quite amusing.
Of course, Lyra's hones senses allowed her to feel Marcus' smile and barely contain his laughter.
With a quick glare that might have given someone of a lower level a heart attack, she made sure to get across to him not to break the dignified impression she had made.
After that the four of them exited the building and headed towards the dwelling where Petros and the Lamia that owned him lived.
From the outside it was clear to see that the place was sizable.
It had been carved into the rock in what was clearly an affluent part of the town and had three stories, each with large floors.
Inside the space was lit by a few dim luminous crystals, and a large fire that was burning in a large hearth along the back wall of the massive entry room.
'They're using a magic tool to produce the flames and purify the smoke.' Marcus thought, analyzing the item with only a quick glance.
He could tell that it was a magic item of some sophistication and used a large amount of mithril and fire elemental crystals in its construction. Certainly not something the average person could get their hands on. At level forty-seven Petros' mistress almost certainly held a high status within the town.
"Welcome to our home. I forgot to introduce myself earlier, so allow me to do so now. My name is Szusha."
Now that she was in a more comfortable location that was devoid of any onlookers, Szusha seemed far more composed than before.
Quickly she led Marcus and Lyra to the center of the room where several chairs and couches were waiting.
Naturally with Petros residing her as well, some of the chairs were built with people that had similar body structures in mind and Marcus and Lyra took a seat in a pair of chairs across from Szusha.
"Let's get right down to business." Lyra said, her expression completely serious. "What is your relationship with Petros? I obviously can't abide by one of my subordinates being mistreated now that I know he's alive."
Hearing this, Szusha's face momentarily twisted into one of anger. Had she been speaking with someone weaker or around as strong as her, she might have lost her cool and started yelling. But she quickly remembered the intimidating presence that Lyra had and kept herself from shouting.
"If you care for Petros so much, why did you just leave him to die? When I found him, he was on death's door. Both of his legs and left arm were twisted around unnaturally. His bones shattered and muscles torn. A giant hole had been blown through his armor and into his stomach. There were gashes and bruises all over him. It was easier to identify which parts of his body weren't injured. In my entire life, I can count on one hand the number of people I've seen with wounds so horrid."
Szusha began crying as she remembered the state Petros had once been in. After all these years Lyra had come back claiming to care so deeply about his wellbeing, acting all high and mighty. Yet she had not been there when he needed her most.
Having one of her greatest failures thrown back in her face, Lyra could not help but look down with a pained look on her face.
It was true that she had failed Petros that day. Along with many others that had died.
"Szusha, please don't be so harsh on her. It's a miracle that I survived. Had I been the one to witness what had happened I would have written just about anyone off as dead. Her Grace also had many other subordinates like me to worry about. She couldn't risk all of their lives on the very slim chance that I might have survived." Petros said, once again trying to act as a mediator.
All this time, Marcus had been carefully watching the interactions between everyone.
He had been genuinely surprised to see Szusha's righteous indignation towards Lyra. Had she just considered Petros some sort of abandoned property she picked up, there was no way she would have gotten as furious as she had for his sake.
'There's no doubt they've got some sort of stronger bond than just master and servant.'
Marcus could tell that the two of them had a deep connection. And it was fairly clear how this conversation was going to go. Petros was going to insist on staying. If he wanted to go back to Tralenstein, he likely would have already begged Lyra to do so.
Lyra seemed to pick up on this herself and allowed the intensity she had been radiating to relax. She had already discussed things with Marcus and Quillon and decided to accept his wishes, whatever they were.
"Okay, I understand now that Petros is not being forced into something he doesn't want to do. So how about the two of you start at the beginning. I want to know how Petros went from being blasted by mana cannons and nearly dying, to ending up here." Lyra said, giving the two hosts an imploring look.
