Chapter 1151: Chapter 1147: I Want Daddy
After being scared for a day or two, she still wouldn’t get out of bed to pee, but after her mother taught her, she learned how to do it all by herself.
Rong Xi stood for a quarter of an hour before she was allowed in. She came to join Rong Sheng for breakfast, but saw Rong Sheng wrapped in thick clothing, her exposed wrists, and neck bearing obvious marks of injury.
Her tender little face was filled with confusion, “Is Mommy sick?”
Rong Sheng shook her head, “No, Mommy is going to have breakfast with you.”
The mother and daughter sat in the spacious hall. They ate quietly, the only sound being when Rong Xi finished her meal and spoke to Rong Sheng, “Mommy, can I ask for something from you?”
Rong Sheng nodded, “Have you finished the picture book?”
“No, I want Daddy.” Rong Xi said seriously, cupping her little face in her hands.
The spoon in Rong Sheng’s hand trembled and dropped back into the bowl, making a clear sound.
Rong Sheng’s face became even colder than usual when facing Rong Xi, “Do you know what you are saying? Do you understand what a father is?”
“Daddy is Father, something every child has. Children have mothers, so naturally, they should have fathers too, but I never have.” Rong Xi’s soft little hand reached for Rong Sheng’s, “Mommy, shall we go find Daddy? I want a Daddy too. Yesterday, Xiao Lan from the clinic said she has a Daddy.”
Why should she, Rong Xi, be deprived of something that everyone else has?
Rong Sheng’s response was cold, “You don’t have one, and you never will.”
She would never let Rong Xi become another Chu Yifeng.
Rong Xi was unhappy all day. Rong Sheng did not take her to the clinic anymore and gave her a new picture book instead, instructing the servants and the governess to teach her to read and write at home.
Bamboo Garden.
Xiao Qingyu had slept soundly for a couple of nights, and upon waking up, he immediately instructed Mo Yun, “Take today’s fresh flowers and pastries to the Tongchang Medical Center for Doctor Rong, whether she accepts them or not.”
Mo Yun helped him up, “Yes, master. I have already prepared everything. The pastry for today is golden thread rolls from Jing Hong Lou.”
Xiao Qingyu nodded, “Very good.”
Seeing the blooming peach blossoms outside the door, he picked a few and had Mo Yun put them in a vase to send to Rong Sheng.
Mo Yun did as instructed. He knew that the young master had taken a liking to Doctor Rong, holding her in his heart.
But there was another troublesome matter at hand that he did not dare to mention, not wanting to ruin Xiao Qingyu’s mood.
However, there was no need for him to speak up as a hoarse shout from a man came from the outer courtyard, “Xiao Qingyu! Xiao Qingyu! Old Seven!”
Xiao Qingyu turned sharply to see a man in a deep purple robe approaching. He was tall and muscular, his hair tied high on his forehead, exuding wealth and grace, but his bushy brows were filled with fierce anger.
Xiao Hui quickly approached Xiao Qingyu and opened his mouth as if to say something urgent.
“I haven’t had breakfast yet. Take it easy, big brother. Let’s talk after I’ve eaten,” Xiao Qingyu replied curtly, cutting him off and proceeding to the main hall for breakfast with Mo Yun.
The golden nanmu table’s surface was a single slab of flawless white marble, and seven or eight exquisitely prepared dishes lay upon it. Xiao Qingyu ate with deliberate slowness, the epitome of a refined and elegant nobleman, supremely graceful and attractive.
Xiao Hui, sitting beside him, slammed his hand on the table with frustration, “Old Seven! What are you doing still having the mood to eat at a time like this? The emperor’s investigation has reached Yangzhou City, and the Xiao family is in deep trouble! And yet you can still eat?”
Xiao Qingyu wiped his mouth with a handkerchief, calm and unflustered, “The Xiao family won’t be in deep trouble; it’s you, big brother, who’s in hot water.”
