Chapter 272: 155 Care (Second Update)

In the household of six, three suddenly fell ill.

Gu Jiao and Xiao Liulang did not dare let the old lady stay at home any longer.

Chickenpox for Little Jingkong was almost like having a serious cold, but for the old lady, it was potentially life-threatening.

“Should we have the old lady stay next door for a few days?” Gu Jiao said to Xiao Liulang.

Gu Jiao already knew that their neighbor was the old grandpa she had once treated on the mountain, primarily because she recognized Liao Quan.

Liao Quan had given her and Gu Xiaoshun New Year’s gifts on the first day of the new year, hers being a warm jade pendant.

That jade pendant was mistaken by Gu Jinyu as her own, creating quite a mix-up.

Regardless of whether he was the old lady’s husband or not, he was ultimately a trustworthy person.

Xiao Liulang opened his mouth, actually, the two of them… were sworn enemies, the kind that fought relentlessly.

Was it really okay to stay next door?

Wouldn’t the two of them end up strangling each other?

Upon hearing she would stay with her husband, the old lady was somewhat reluctant, but considering that the three little ones had contracted chickenpox, she chose to ensure her safety first.

When the old lady gloomily appeared before him, the old priest was watering plants and got so frightened that he dropped his watering can: “I don’t have any private money left!”

The old lady gave him a deadly glance and silently entered the house with her luggage.

The old priest stood there dumbfounded: “This, this, this, this is my house!”

The old lady threw his belongings out and said expressionlessly, “From now on, it isn’t.”

The old priest: “…”

The old priest clenched his teeth, but he endured!

Gu Xiaoshun and Little Jingkong were usually healthy throughout the year, but this bout of chickenpox proved even more severe than Gu Yan’s symptoms.

Both of them had a high fever of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and the fever medication failed to lower it.

Gu Jiao administered some fluids to both.

Gu Yan sat opposite them, smugly watching them get pricked by needles.

A grown-up and a child sat in chairs getting IV drips, wanting nothing more than to beat up Gu Yan.

When Xiao Liulang entered the room and saw this scene, that bizarre treatment method was truly unique across all the six nations and throughout the Universe.

Nowadays, their secrets were slowly becoming harder to hide—his background and her medical skills were gradually surfacing.

He was not inclined to talk more about his background and naturally had no right to inquire about her medical techniques.

Gu Jiao felt the same.

Everyone was smart.

“Is there anything I can help with?” Xiao Liulang asked.

“There’s no hot water left,” Gu Jiao replied.

“I’ll go heat some,” Xiao Liulang turned and headed to the kitchen.

Gu Jiao stayed to observe the condition of the three.

Being the youngest, Little Jingkong adapted quickest to new things, soon getting used to the needle in his hand.

Gu Xiaoshun, however, shivered in fear.

“It’s okay,” Gu Jiao comforted him softly.

Not long after, Little Jingkong felt sleepy.

Gu Jiao picked him up and placed him on her lap, sitting next to Gu Xiaoshun, quietly accompanying them both.

Gu Jiao had initially thought that being the youngest, Little Jingkong would have the mildest symptoms, but at night, his hands and feet began to feel icy cold.

Gu Jiao prepared some hot water for him to soak his feet.

The little fellow could hardly sit still.

“You hold him,” Xiao Liulang said.

Gu Jiao sat on the chair, holding Little Jingkong, while Xiao Liulang crouched on the floor, holding a wooden basin for him to soak his feet.

This action was tiring even for a normal person, let alone him.

Gu Jiao said, “Let me do it.”

“No need,” Xiao Liulang’s forehead was covered in sweat, he calmly said, “He doesn’t want me to hold him.”

Little Jingkong was half asleep, how would he know who was holding him?

Gu Jiao glanced at him and raised her hand to wipe the sweat off his forehead with her sleeve.

After soaking his feet, Little Jingkong sweated all over, and his high fever subsided a bit, his hands and feet no longer as cold.

To be honest, Gu Jiao had not dealt much with young patients in her previous life and was truly alert now.

“I’m going to check on Gu Xiaoshun and Gu Yan,” Xiao Liulang said, taking the used hot water with him.

Gu Yan and Gu Xiaoshun also had a high fever, but it wasn’t as serious as Little Jingkong’s.

In the middle of the night, Little Jingkong suddenly sat up, his eyes wide open, blinking, seemingly looking at something.

“What’s wrong?” Gu Jiao asked.

“Jiaojiao,” he said.

“I’m here,” Gu Jiao embraced him and lay down.

Little Jingkong closed his eyes.

Soon after, he sat up again, his eyes as wide as copper bells.

“Bad brother-in-law,” he said.

“He’s here too,” Gu Jiao called Xiao Liulang in, “Sleep, your brother-in-law is here too.”

Little Jingkong looked at Gu Jiao, then at Xiao Liulang, and peacefully fell asleep.
