Chapter 342 Ch 345: Authority Duel

After thinking about everything carefully, Rein decided to accept Katla's proposal. He had used his eye of Truth to inspect Katla this whole time and she had not lied at all. Rein had also asked quite a few questions to the people that Katla had introduced to him and had managed to understand the whole situation.

Rein was still planning to ask around the company to more unbiased people working here but from what he had seen so far, Katla looked to be genuine. Katla was very happy about this and permitted Rein to ask around as much as he wanted.

Rein did just that and went out of the room. In the meantime, Katla sat in the reception room talking with Lopas and Luna. She was very nervous during this time as even though she was confident that she was well liked by most of her subordinates, she was worried that Rein might just encounter the subordinates who hated her.

Rein returned after about 45 minutes and these were most stressful forty five minutes of Katla's life. Her improved complextion had turned pale again so Rein asked Luna to cast another healing spell on her.

As Katla waited nervously for Rein's judgement, Rein gave her a reassuring smile and told Katla that he had talked with quite a few of her subordinates and had judged the authenticity of her statement. He was ready to help her out in this plan of hers.

Hearing that Katla sighed in relief and broke out in a large smile. Rein also smiled seeing this but then he got serious and asked Katla to explain her plans in detail. She told Rein that her plan was simple.

She was going to confront her father and would demand her succession. Her father would most likely reject the idea and that would be when Katla would challenge him for an "Authority Duel".

This authority duel was a custom of the Celebes family. If any of the successor of the family could gather the support of two thirds of their subordinates, then that person would be able to challenge the current family head in a duel.

This duel was special and did not only involved combat. There would be five types of competition and combat would be one of them. The other four would test the duel participants' leadership, intelligence, subordinates quality and charecter.

But in a world ruled with magic and power, the combat part of the duel was most important. One could earn a total of 5 points from it while the other parts only rewarded 2 points. That was the reason why Katla badly wanted Rein's help.

If she lost the combat round, she needed to win all the remaining four rounds to emerge victorious. Katla was confident that she could defeat her father in all of the rounds but if she lost even once in any way, she would lose the whole duel as her father would reach the winning score of 7.

But now that Rein was with her, she was sure to get the 5 points from the combat round and she was also definitely going to defeat her father in the subordinates category. So even if she lost to her father in all the other rounds, she was still going to win the duel. But obviously Katla was not planning to lose any of the rounds and wanted a clean sweep.

Kalta's father Norman was having an alone drinking party when suddenly the whole house became noisy. Norman had not managed to have too many drinks so he was still sober. Immediately after noticing the commotion, he went out of his room to check out what was happening.

As soon as he opens the door, he came face to face with his long time friend Gustos who was also a rank 3 mage and one of the person Norman trusted the most in this world.

Seeing his most trustworthy person, Norman relaxed quite a bit and asked him what was happening. In answer, with a grim expression on his face, Gustos told him that young lady Katla was trying to usurpe his position.

Hearing this Nirman was dumbfounded as he had never expected something like this and became speechless. Seeing this Gustos held his head inside his mind. He knew that this old friend of his was not a bad person but he definitely was not a good businessman.

But still he was very prideful and would never give up on his authority. Norman had helped Gustos a lot when he was still a newbie mage and had trusted him a lot.

Gustos himself was a good man and had returned his trust by helping his friend out in any way he could. Technically he was a subordinate but both of them had never thought of each other as anything else but friends.

As Gustos was thinking about what to do next, he saw Katla coming toward them with a group of people behind her. Gustos recognised quite a few of them as they were the higher ups of the Celebes company who were keeping the company afloat. Seeing them behind Katla made Gustos' expression even darker.

After coming in front of her father, Katla curtsied at him gracefully and greeted him. But in exchange, Katla was shouted at by her father who had just came back to his senses after Katla spoke to him.

Seeing this scene, all the other people present started to look at Norman disapprovingly. This exchange once again made it clear in their eyes who was more suitable to lead them.

In face of Norman's outburst, Katla remained unbothered and composed. She calmly told Norman that she had given her all for the company but with the way Norman was handling it, if she did not do anything, the company would fall even more further.

That was not something Katla wanted. So she wanted to take the position of owner to have the highest decision making power in the company. So she politely requested her father to step down from his position of the family head and to leave everything to her.

She also promised that Norman would be provided with all his daily necessities and would not feel any inconveniences. He would leave the same life as before but only the burden of the company would be gone from his shoulders.

Katla's proposal was so good that even Gustos felt that Norman should just expect it. There was no downside to it and with how honest Katla was, he was sure that she would keep her word.

But obviously with his immense pride, Norman was not willing to accept this proposal and he made it very clear. Katla would have been happy if she could end everything peacefully so she tried her best. But it looked like her that was not going to be the case, so she hardened her heart and got ready to challenge her father in an "Authority Duel".
