Chapter 203: Script Marker

"Let's go, Seth!" The old chief urged and Seth felt compelled to and so he entered but he stopped finding all people entered. The trees swayed with a cool wind and the people felt refreshed, not only that, but they also felt zero pressure.

They fell down and breathed out before bringing out shells of snails of various sizes from their body.

"Gawee snail shell has a unique ability to protect us from continental pressure and other hazardous environmental factors." The old lady explained as she held her now crumbling shell. Only the old chief remained standing.

"We can't rest later!" The old chief said with a smile. He seemed happier than Seth for coming here. Seth went ahead and they followed him until they reached the centre. The place where the village buildings were.

Seth turned to welcome them but found only 52 children standing with bags and blankets following him.

"Where are the rest?" He asked, the kids just stared at him with no response. His heart skipped more beats. "Where are they?" He shouted.

No answer. He quickly ran behind tracing where they had passed and then he saw them, covered in moss and vines. Some of them hugged trees, halfway merging with them.

"Old chief!" Seth shouted, no answer, he went back and found that a kilometre before they reached the Fake Village, the old chief was a half tree, half human.

"Don't worry about us!"

Seth swivelled and traced the old lady's voice, she was far behind, the first to be entangled. Her hair grew into long vines and her hand merged with a tree, only her mouth was moving.

"We are not dead!" She said. in Aura Sight, her aura was the same, "the forest deemed us contaminated. We will be purified and released to live again!"

"Tell me the truth!" Seth ordered, "this place is called Nightmare for a reason, it killed everything that came in!"

"And the only thing that was keeping Gawee alive, it's the source of oxygen for all animals to breathe. Its roots are vast around and under the continent, coiled and keeping the whole land one and intact. It was also the only reason why humans did not perish and why you Immortals are still truly alive. It's the last pulsing life force and the hope of this land!" The old lady explained kindly.

"Sacrificing our life for the forest is the right thing to do. Besides we are not sacrificing anything, it is just purifying us and validating us. Sure some of us will not survive because our soul is too contaminated but those who do will be resident here!"

Saying resident, Seth realized something, when he was here at first he too battled the forest against Enthrall nature. This is exactly what was happening to them.

"You are being enthralled!" He asked.

"Yes, after the purification!" She added.

"What do you have in you that it doesn't want!" Seth asked.

Her voice became lower and more grating like a bark but she explained, "This is the land where Titans, Ancient Dragons, Angels, Demons and many more have died. Sadly, the death of supreme races is never simple, their remnant will, spirit and even soul can dwell. Eventually, they were digested by the Great Land but their effect and influence are still passively active.

And they contaminate lower races slowly and gradually. The Moon above is another pillar that suppressed them and made the land habitable for us!"

"Above all that this is a land where every life form can dwell and live with no expulsion by Amma herself. Possession and corruption of the soul are very common by malevolent and benevolent races. As the beating and Life force of the land, Living Roots does not tolerate anything it was not approved of. We know of you and we pray for you, and you came and saved us.

Despite knowing this will happen and we are still happy to come. We are you people now Chief Seth Enoch!"

She completely became part of the tree. He activated aura sight and still found her heart beating and blood flowing like normal but at the surface, she was changing.

It took him time to take in that all, so he went around gathering stones and burying them inside the foot of the tree.

Coming back, he didn't see them. After checking the rudimentary houses, he found them inside different houses.

However, they have turned to saplings. Moss was growing and flowers were covering them.

He had assumed they would be considered pure and would not be included but he was wrong. They were just given the opportunity to come to the centre. He saw a book on the floor beside a boy.

It has four pages made from an unknown animal's thick hide. He picked it up and checked it.

The first two pages have drawings but were scratched away, the third page has him. The very picture he made in the real world. The one that made Lady Emmanuella's children cry, the one he did to express his agonizing loneliness in the forest when it was trying to devour his mind and enthral him.

It was an exact copy, he was sitting on a stone with the saddest face and slumped shoulder of helplessness, his staff was in his lab and his head tilted a bit in giving up.

Seth sighed and refused to comment. He flipped to another page where he saw a cloudy-looking dragon slamming into Living Roots. This one he did not make sense of. Seth tore some vines and put the book into the boy's bag and walked out of the house.

He went into the house and slumped down.

A round head and a sharp pin made of iron appeared on his hand, looking at it made Seth understand more of its use. Seth came out of the mansion and then pressed the pin part of the marker down on the ground.

Seth's aura automatically poured into the marker and a pulse happened.

He picked the Iron, it was dull and rusty now and he stored it but as he was going back, he noticed the houses were improving slowly becoming whole. Soon a perfect house will be born.

"I need to check my status!" Seth reminded himself when he slumped on his vouch.
