"...What in the hell is happening?"
Kaelgran, who was watching the battle, questioned in a dumbfounded tone.
He had come here to the enemy world, expecting a difficult and hard-fought battle where he and his soldiers would give their all, defeating the enemy in their home. He was even prepared to bravely die on the battlefield.
Yes, the stakes of this war were that high.
Even a Primordial wasn't sure if he could keep his life, let alone the rest of the soldiers. Yes, they did tell their soldiers that they would win this war overwhelmingly with no casualties, but....
That was obviously a lie said to strengthen their battle spirits, no? Even a child should know that.
How can one win a war without casualties? Especially a war between two worlds with somewhat equal strength. From the beginning, the Velcria leaders knew that this war would come together with heavy casualties.
They knew that after this war, Velcria, even if they won, would never be the same again. The losses would be overwhelming, but there was nothing they could do. Forced by the higher-level worlds, it was simply a choice between participating in this war and having a chance at survival, or offending a middle-level world and being destroyed by a force they sent.
For Velcrian leaders, this was supposed to be the lesser evil-a war where hundreds of thousands of their bravest soldiers were supposed to perish.
But...
What in the hell are these women!?
Yes, the leaders knew they were exceptional.
The one that fought their strongest Sovereign before, and the one who was the current acting General, they knew these two women were exceptionally strong.
They were also the ones that gave them enough confidence to attack Tandris despite being at such a heavy disadvantage. However, the leaders still thought that the battle would be extremely difficult.
"Are we sure they are just Sovereigns...?"
Kaelgran questioned out loud.
Liora and Elaris didn't say anything.
They were speechless.
Their soldiers had already killed more than 100,000 enemy soldiers, and barely a few hundred of their own had died.
This was unprecedented!
Something they didn't even know was possible!
'A True Goddess of War...'
Elaris muttered inwardly as she stared at Ember floating in the sky. She could see how the soldiers were moving and overpowering the enemies. That was definitely not normal.
And it wasn't just the ability to command the soldiers; her own strength was absurd as well.
That woman killed six Peak Sovereigns within a second. Those Sovereigns and everyone around them couldn't even react to her before they were decimated.
If the woman named Rune was strong, she was on an entirely different level. A never-before-seen monster.
A being who could change the course of a war just with her presence alone.
'If only she can become our permanent ally. We would never have to worry about wars
in the future. Her presence alone would ensure our victory!
Elaris and the other leaders couldn't help but fantasize.
Then suddenly, Elaris noticed something and narrowed her eyes.
"Liora."
She called out.
"Did you see that?"
"I did."
The Seraphyte nodded.
"We need to go."
Kaelgran spoke with a grim look on his face.
"It is too late."
Liora, however, shook her head.
They were about 10 kilometers away from Ember. Even if they could get to her in an instant, it would all be meaningless since the enemy would have more than enough time to get rid of her before they could close the distance.
It was regrettable, but at the very least, the woman completed her job.
The enemy Dreadborn was able to hide himself even from their senses. It meant that he must have used a considerable amount of energy.
If they surround him now, killing him wouldn't be a big problem, and once it became a 3 vs. 2 battle, the war would be as good as over.
Sure, with the woman lost, there might be more casualties than before, but the Velerian leaders were already prepared to lose a major chunk of their forces in this war. Not to mention, their soldiers had already taken down quite a lot of enemy soldiers. If they continue to ride this momentum, the casualties might be limited.
"Let's go."
Liora ordered, this time not because they wanted to save Ember or something like that, but to surround the enemy Dreadborn leader and get rid of him.
The war was finally entering the final phase, where the world leaders were going to
take over.
Or at least that is what the Velcria leaders thought.
But...
On the other side, something entirely out of their expectation was happening.
...
'Wait...
If he said that the enemy leader was with them, where did he go?"
Thyra questioned with a frown on her face, and while the rest of the women frowned in confusion, they failed to notice a shadowy being entering Ember's shadow.
At first, Ember wasn't able to react. Soon, however, her expression changed.
'Oh? You sensed me?'
She heard an eerie voice in her head.
Ember frowned, but then she decided to answer.
'It wasn't difficult.
She shrugged.
'As I expected, you are exceptional.'
The eerie voice nodded.
"You girls are quite a strange lot. You have caused much more harm than we were
expecting. Especially you!
"Yes, this is the first time I am hearing that!'
You sound a little too calm.
Do you know who I am?"
The eerie voice questioned in a curious tone.
'Kaelith Morvaine!
'So you do know me.
How are you so calm then? I am curious!
You would have killed me by now if you wanted to."
Ember replied, and Kaelith laughed out loud.
You are indeed different from the rest. I like you!
'I have a husband.
'A pity!
Kaelith sighed.
'Why are you here?"
Ember questioned directly, not wanting to continue this foolish game for long.
'Come to our side!
"We took a miss-'
'It doesn't matter. I promise you rewards far richer than what you would get from the
mission.'
"This was never about war.
If we fail the mission, we will lose our 100% completion rate. I cannot allow that,
especially since this is the first mission I am in charge of
Ember shook her head, and suddenly, Kaclith's voice turned cold.
'It is a choice between your completion rate and your life. Choose wisely!
He threatened.
Ember, however, simply laughed out loud as she shook her head.
'See? This is where you are wrong.
This was never about my life!
The moment Ember said those words, Kaelith heard another voice.
'I do not like when other men get too close to my wives.
Leave!'
