Shut Up, Malevolent Dragon! I Don’t Want to Have Any More Children With You

Vol. 3 Ch. 13

Vol. 3 Ch. 13

"Wedding... gift?"

Rosvisser was a bit confused.

She understood the concept of a wedding gift, of course. Her grandmother, Veronica, though strict, had always treated her and her sister, Isha, well. As children, they received gifts from their grandmother on important holidays.

The "wedding" between her and Leon had been very... low-key, so it wasn’t surprising that her grandmother only found out later.

Thus, it wasn’t strange for her grandmother to make up for it now by giving her a wedding gift.

What truly puzzled Rosvisser, however, was this:

Why would her grandmother entrust Headmistress Olet to pass the gift to her?

As far as she could remember, aside from the fact that she and her sister were both graduates of Saint Heath Academy, their family had no connection to Headmistress Olet.

Staring at the exquisite, dazzling pendant necklace, Rosvisser's eyes flickered. "Headmistress, when did you meet my grandmother?"

After thinking it over, Rosvisser decided it was best to just ask directly.

Headmistress Olet, as the head of Saint Heath Academy, was a figure of absolute neutrality, so there was no need to beat around the bush with her.

"Hmm... if you mean when we first met, that was quite a long time ago."

The headmistress smiled as she spoke, "I first met Veronica while you were still attending Saint Heath Academy, but we were only acquaintances back then. Later, through various circumstances, I met your grandmother again during an expedition project in the Far North."

The Far North?

Expedition project?

Rosvisser had some memory of this.

The last time her grandmother had provided her with information about Ravi, the Dragon King of the Space Domain, she mentioned that she had spent many years active in the Far North, saying she was involved in some kind of expedition project.

However, her grandmother didn’t elaborate, and Rosvisser hadn’t asked further.

Now that Headmistress Olet brought up this so-called expedition project again, Rosvisser couldn’t help but feel her curiosity stir.

"Headmistress, have you been working on this... expedition project in the Far North for many years?" Rosvisser asked.

"Yes. It’s a large undertaking, and sometimes I couldn’t return for years."

The headmistress adjusted her glasses and smiled helplessly, "I feared that my academy would be in chaos under Wilson’s management, but it seems he’s kept everything in order—especially with his discovery of a genius student like Noa."

"Kept everything in order, indeed... like inciting the entire faculty and student body to ship the Melkvey couple as their favorite pairing."

Headmistress, you're oblivious!

Leon silently listened to the conversation between his wife and the headmistress, without interrupting.

He didn’t know much about the internal workings of the dragon clans, so it was best to speak less and listen more.

This was one of the small tips Rosvisser had given him when teaching him about the art of power and politics.

Moreover, the "Far North" they spoke of was a place completely inaccessible to humans, existing only in the pages of history.

Leon figured that only dragons, with their tough, resilient bodies, could survive in such a harsh, unforgiving environment.

"The vice principal is indeed... quite competent, yes." Rosvisser nodded in agreement.

Leon glanced at her.

He knew that whenever Rosvisser was saying something she didn’t fully mean, she would habitually add a little "yes" at the end of her sentences.

For example:

"Leon, do I dislike you? I hate you so much! Yes!"

"Leon, your cooking isn’t good at all, yes, not good."

"Leon, how could you think I like you? Are you crazy? Yes, you're crazy."

And so on.

But even if he could tell his wife was just going through the motions, Leon remained composed.

"So, what exactly were you investigating in the Far North?" Rosvisser asked.

"Something ancient. So old that it doesn’t belong to our era."

The headmistress replied, "But that expedition project has been terminated."

"Terminated?"

"Yes." Olet nodded, "The project’s progress required the assistance of a spatial domain dragon like Ravi, but it turned out that he was secretly an infiltrator in our team, attempting to steal our findings. Not long ago, he suddenly left the Far North, and the next news of him... was during the battle at your Silver Dragon border."

As she spoke, Headmistress Olet's gaze slowly shifted from Rosvisser to Leon.

Leon raised an eyebrow, glancing from Olet to Rosvisser, then adjusted his posture. "What’s the matter, headmistress?"

"Although I’ve only recently returned from the Far North, I’ve already heard about it. The Silver Dragon Prince stopped Ravi's final spatial rift disaster. Some dragon scholars say that if the rift hadn’t been stopped, allowing it to continue expanding, the destruction wouldn’t have been limited to just the Silver Dragons."

The headmistress looked at Leon with approval. "So, in a way, Mr. Leon, you saved even more dragons."

"..."

Though it was meant as praise, why did it sound so strange?

A dragon slayer saving dragons... wasn’t that like a saint appearing in the world?

But that wasn’t Leon’s intent at all. At the time, he only knew that if he didn’t stop the rift, his wife and children would be done for.

As for saving more dragons...

Oh well, consider it one life for another.

After all, the number of dragons he indirectly saved that time probably wasn’t as many as the ones he had directly slain in the past. Say what you will.

"Even without me, someone else would’ve stopped the rift eventually, headmistress," Leon said modestly.

Sure, that’s what he said.

But in reality, if they had waited for someone else to stop the rift, the whole situation would’ve been far too late.

"Headmistress, you said Ravi might have been an infiltrator in your expedition team?"

"Yes."

"And do you know who sent him?"

Headmistress Olet shook her head. "I’m not sure. But I can confirm that besides Ravi, there were others with ulterior motives in the team."

Hearing this, Leon raised his eyebrow and silently thought to himself:

Headmistress, your team sounds full of talents, huh? How many dragons were there in total? And half of them were spies? Want to hire me to catch spies? I’m quite good at that.

"After Ravi left, we had to slow down the progress of the expedition. But although things moved more slowly, we still achieved significant results in the end."

Headmistress Olet continued, "But before we could celebrate, the Ironwing Dragon King, Fell, stole part of the expedition’s findings and disappeared."

"Fell... Hmm, the Ironwing Dragons are on par with the Silver Dragons in terms of speed. They can easily evade most people’s pursuit," Rosvisser said.

"Ah, what a headache."

The headmistress sighed, her mood visibly sinking. "I’ll get some tea for us."

"Ah, thank you, headmistress."

"It’s no trouble."

The headmistress got up to find the tea.

Seizing the moment, the couple whispered to each other.

"Do you think this Ironwing Dragon King might also be collaborating with the human empire?" Rosvisser asked in a low voice.

Leon frowned slightly. "You mean he stole part of your grandmother’s findings and handed them over to the empire?"

Rosvisser nodded. "That seems very likely. After all, Ravi is one of the Dragon Kings who collaborated with the empire, isn’t he?"

"Indeed."

Leon’s eyes flickered, and he added, "But from what the headmistress said, it seems she suspects that Ravi and Fell were working for some organization, but she doesn’t realize that this 'organization' is actually the human empire."

"Yes, exactly. But if the headmistress finds out that Ravi and the others were collaborating with the empire, she might also easily guess that the Silver Dragon Sanctuary has been hiding a certain human."

Rosvisser looked at Leon and said, "Because from Constantine to Star, Ravi, and that Dragon King Bly from a while back, these guys wouldn’t have attacked the Silver Dragon Sanctuary for no reason. They must have been acting for a common goal. And once it becomes clear that this common goal has the empire’s shadow behind it, it won’t be hard to figure out who they were after."

Rosvisser's analysis was reasonable and easy to understand.

So far, only a handful of people knew the secret collaboration between the human empire and the dragons.

Once that secret was exposed, it would lead to more than just chaos in the empire. The entire world would be thrown into disarray.

Even Leon couldn’t predict how events would unfold, which is why he hadn’t hastily revealed this conspiracy to the world. Instead, he chose to investigate in secret, aiming to overturn the empire’s absurd rule only when he had solid evidence and leverage.

As for the dragons, once they learned that Constantine, Ravi, and the others were "traitors" working with the humans—and that they had repeatedly attacked the Silver Dragon Sanctuary—it wouldn’t be hard to suspect that the Silver Dragon clan was also connected to the humans.

If that happened, not only Leon but also Rosvisser and their children would become targets of the dragons’ anger.

Leon wasn’t afraid. However many dragons came for him, he would slay just as many.

But his wife and children were different.

If anything were to happen to them,

what good would all of Leon’s strength be?

So, in a sense, Leon, the empire, and those dragon traitors were all like grasshoppers tied to the same string. If one side exploded, it would hurt everyone.

It was a dangerous game, with both sides walking a narrow tightrope, trying to maintain their footing while pushing the other off.

"I see."

Leon nodded. "But... both your grandmother and the headmistress are speaking in riddles. After all this, they still haven’t told us what exactly they discovered in the Far North. If they’d just tell us, we might be able to predict the empire’s next move."

Rosvisser sighed and shrugged, "Maybe, like us, they’re holding back for certain reasons, so they can’t reveal everything."

"That makes sense. Anyway, it’s fine. We still have Master and the others acting as our informants within the empire. Getting information shouldn’t be too difficult. Let’s see if Master can figure out what the empire has gone through so much trouble to obtain."

Rosvisser smiled. "Yes, let’s."

"Sorry for the wait, the tea is ready."

Headmistress Olet returned with three cups of hot tea, and the conversation resumed.

She didn’t reveal much more about the Far North.

When Rosvisser asked where her grandmother was now, the headmistress only said that she would return in a while.

"Oh, and your grandmother insisted that you must wear this wedding gift at all times," Olet said.

Rosvisser’s gaze fell on the pendant necklace. "Wear it at all times?"

"Yes, it’s said to be made from a magical crystal that, when worn over time, absorbs impurities and toxins from the body, resulting in fairer, clearer skin."

"...I’m only a little over two hundred years old. I’m not at the point where I need such intricate maintenance."

Rosvisser smiled wryly and shook her head, but she still agreed. She reached out to take the necklace and put it away carefully. "I’ll follow grandmother’s instructions. If you see her, please let her know."

"I will."

After that, the headmistress chatted with the couple about Noa’s studies and some family matters.

After finishing their tea, the conversation came to an end.

"Thank you for your time, headmistress. We’ll take our leave now," Rosvisser said with a slight bow.

"Take care, both of you."

The couple turned and left the headmistress’s office, one following the other.

Once they had gone, Headmistress Olet let out a long, relieved sigh.

After confirming the sound of their footsteps fading away, she moved to the bookshelf in her office, gently twisted a nearby lamp, and, with a soft click, the bookshelf slid open, revealing a hidden chamber.

The headmistress stepped inside.

In the secret room stood a silver-haired woman.

"I’ve handed over the Primordial Crystal to your granddaughter."

Olet said, "Couldn’t you have given it to her yourself and explained what it is?"

Veronica Melkvey stood quietly before a magic array, her back to Olet, speaking softly,

"Did you forget what I told you? Little Lo’s husband is quite mysterious. I don’t want him to know too much about the matters in the Far North."

Olet walked up to Veronica’s side, looking at the milky white energy orb floating within the magic array.

"You... don’t trust him?"

"It’s not that I don’t trust him. If Little Lo chose him, he must be good. But... I just don’t know enough about him yet."

Olet nodded thoughtfully. "And what about Yisha’s Primordial Crystal? Did you deliver it to her personally?"

"Yes."

Olet’s mind raced as she asked,

"Are you sure it’s okay to pass down Noah’s power to the younger generation?"

At this, Veronica narrowed her eyes slightly, not answering the question directly but instead asking,

"Angelina, isn't it fascinating how humans pass down their knowledge?"

Olet shook her head.

"Humans live only a few short decades. Even the longest-lived among them rarely make it to a century. Compared to dragons, their lives are insignificant."

"And yet, they continually push the boundaries of their understanding, constantly learning new things."

"They work so hard to live out their brief lives, then leave behind their achievements for their descendants to inherit."

"Humans, generation by generation, grow and progress in this way."

"So, I think, perhaps in this increasingly chaotic and absurd era, it no longer belongs to us old ones."

Veronica smiled at her old friend and said,

"Why not leave the achievements of our ancestors to the next generation and let them bring it all to an end?"
