Chapter 796 Experiencing the Festival
Chapter 796 Experiencing the Festival
"Where were the two of you?" Zach asked Ariel as soon as he saw her and Kenneth appearing after quite some time.
"We had some really good candies. You two didn't even get to e–" He suddenly stopped speaking when he saw the two of them up close, especially their eyes. Both of their eyes looked slightly red and puffy, as though they had been crying their eyes out.
He ran up to Ariel and asked her in a whisper, "Ary, did something happen?" He also turned his gaze to Kenneth, hoping that either he or Ariel would answer him.
However, Kenneth chose to give the cousins some privacy and walked away to find Grace.
Ariel looked past Zach. Her eyes met with her father's. He simply gave her a mirthless smile and turned to engage in conversation with Joyce and Vlad. She watched Damien walking up to Kenneth.
Ariel focused her attention back on Zach and answered him in a whisper, "I ended things with Kenneth."
"Ah!" Although Ariel hadn't said outright to Zach that she had something with Kenneth, it was pretty apparent to him. Zach pulled his cousin into a warm hug and tried to console her, "I'm sorry, Ary. But I am sure that you took the decision after giving it a proper thought."
Ariel gently nodded her head.
Zach was curious to know if ending things with Kenneth meant Ariel had chosen herself or if she had chosen Damien. However, he didn't ask anything at the moment because he didn't want to be insensitive toward Kenneth.
Niylah was also unintentionally hearing the conversation between Zach and Ariel. Although she personally thought that Ariel should have given a chance to Kenneth instead of Damien, she was at least happy that Ariel was finally clear about who she wanted to be with. And she was happy that she made it clear to Kenneth as well.
While Ariel was busy with Zach, Damien was busy thinking about something to say to Kenneth without sounding cocky that Ariel was now all his.
However, before he could say anything, Kenneth looked at him and said, "Well, I guess a congratulation is in order."
If Damien hadn't grown to like Kenneth in the past few days, then he wouldn't have probably missed a chance to mock Kenneth. But now, he couldn't dare to say anything that would even remotely make Kenneth upset. And he obviously couldn't accept the congratulation from him.
"No, Kenny." He gently patted Kenneth on the shoulder and said, "I am sorry about what you are going through at the moment. I can guess how badly you might be hurting."
Kenneth smiled and mumbled while shaking his head, "You can't possibly imagine the pain that I am going through right now. You aren't the one who just got rejected by his first love."
"Yeah, you are right. I'm really sorry." Damien awkwardly began to fidget his fingers, not knowing what else to say without offending Kenneth. So, he decided to give some space to Kenneth. "I think I will talk with Niylah for a while."
Before leaving Kenneth's side, however, he offered the heartbroken hybrid, "If you prefer being alone then just ask me. I will take you wherever you want to go."
Although Kenneth really wanted to accept Damien's offer and ask him to take him back home, he resisted. He didn't want to ruin everyone else's mood just because his mood was thrashed. Everyone was trying to enjoy the festival, and he didn't want to give them a reason not to.
"No, I'm good," Kenneth replied while trying to calm his heart down.
Damien gave a nod and walked away from Kenneth's side. Before he reached Niylah's side, he saw a Romanian guard walking up to the Crown Prince and saying something to him.
"Alright, everybody," the group heard Vlad's loud voice. "I heard that there's a street play going on at another street. I think it will be pretty fun. Shall we all head there?"
Everyone agreed to the idea since the atmosphere had gotten a bit awkward after Ariel and Kenneth rejoined the group. And half of the group preferred some minutes of silence.
Watching the play was the best way to avoid having conversations among them. Or so Ariel thought.
Ariel and all the others were standing while facing the makeshift stage that had been installed on the street which was a little broader than the others. Ariel didn't know what she was watching. She was simply staring blankly at the decoration on the stage rather than staring at the performers. Her father was standing by her side and had been staring at her for a while now.
"Ary, do you want to tell me what happened between you and Kenneth?" Theodore asked his daughter because he wasn't able to control his curiosity anymore. He was worried for his daughter.
Ariel replied to her father without averting her gaze from the stage, "You heard me earlier, didn't you?"
"I did." Theodore sounded a little hurt when he said, "I heard that you had 'ended things with Kenneth'. But I didn't even know that you had started things with Kenneth. Why did you feel the need to hide it? As your father, I had the full right to know."
Ariel closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She wasn't really feeling like talking with her father. However, she also didn't want to hurt her father's feelings. She had hurt enough people for today.
Thus, she politely tried to make her father understand, "Dad, I didn't tell you because it didn't last that long. I had given it a thought when I began the travel, that's all. I wasn't trying to hide anything from you."
Theodore wanted to ask follow-up questions to his daughter. But he didn't think that was the appropriate thing to do, especially when they were surrounded by the crowd, and when they were watching the actors performing their hard work in front of the mass. He didn't want to be disrespectful to the hard workers.
"Then we shall have a proper conversation tonight. I need to hear everything from you." He caressed Ariel's hair and then focused back on the play, or he tried his best to.
After the play was over, all of them walked down the street while eating varieties of food, watching people performing songs, playing music, and also, getting married right there on the street.
"People are actually getting married here," Zach exclaimed when he witnessed a bride and a groom kissing each other to seal their marriage.
Ramon pointed at a young couple who were fighting and making a scene a little further away from them, and he mockingly said, "I guess this is also a place to get divorced."
It was already dark by the time they all finished roaming around the town's busy street and experiencing the festival. Read new adventures at empire
"Let's head back then," Joyce happily said to her family and friends.
