The ceremony ended, the champagne was opened, and the salute exploded. Red petals fell like rain, painting a beautiful picture amidst the blue sky, white clouds, and green grass.
Brandon Piers held Abigail’s hand and cut a one-meter-high fondant cake. Today’s engagement ended among the guests’ well-wishes, some sincere and some not.
The guests were led to the banquet by the waiters.
Elder Piers looked at Abigail in her wedding dress, then at his pale-faced grandson in a wheelchair. He sighed softly. “Since you’ve decided to be together, there’s no turning back. Our Piers family does not support divorce.”
After speaking, he handed a gift to Abigail, a pair of jade bracelets.
Originally, it was intended for Ruby Green. The size was naturally not appropriate, but it would have to do. Elder Piers felt a bit apologetic. “Everything was sudden, Grandpa didn’t prepare well enough. I’ll get you a prettier pair later.”
“Thank you, Grandpa.” Abigail did not mind and thanked him softly.
Today’s sudden change surprised even her, let alone Elder Piers.
“Grandpa, where’s my gift?” Brandon Piers half-jokingly asked when he saw that his grandfather intended to leave after giving the gift.
“Humph, none for you. Since the ceremony is over, get back to the hospital immediately.” Elder Piers angrily glared at his grandson but couldn’t help asking, “When will Dean Foster be back? How are you going to arrange your surgery? Now that you have a wife and child, you need to be responsible. If you dare leave it to this old man, see if I don’t beat you.”
“Grandpa, would you be willing?” Brandon Piers asked. His remarkably handsome face carried a mischievous smile.
Elder Piers glared at his grandson fiercely and snorted proudly. “Get back to the hospital.”
“Yes, yes, yes, cough, cough…” As Brandon Piers spoke, he started coughing.
Elder Piers’ expression tightened. At this moment, several of the Piers family members came over. Before they could speak, they saw Brandon Piers clutching his chest with difficulty breathing, his face turning increasingly pale.
Abigail quickly checked Brandon Piers’ condition, then looked at the man with a strange expression. Though she didn’t know what he was up to, she still nervously stepped forward. “Brandon Piers, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“Brandon, don’t scare Grandpa. Doctor, doctor!” Elder Piers sorrowfully whispered, gripping Brandon Piers’ hand tightly.
James Carter arrived quickly, checked Brandon Piers’ condition, and instructed, “Quick, send him to the hospital.”
“The ambulance is ready outside. I’ll take the Second Young Master now.” Pullan rushed over and pushed Brandon Piers out. Abigail supported Elder Piers and followed.
Adam Piers looked at his father in confusion. “Dad, what’s that monster up to? Is he really not going to make it?”
Participating in the engagement ceremony in that state, was he tired of living?
Mason Piers and Oliver Piers remained silent. From the information they had, Brandon Piers’ condition was almost hopeless. Even if Dean Foster returned to Gills City to perform surgery, it might not reverse the situation.
But this nephew was always full of schemes. Today’s engagement was even more inexplicable. Neither of them dared to make a rash judgment.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Green, who had been waiting for an opportunity to inquire about the engagement, watched Abigail leave with the ambulance. He wanted to chase after her, but Kelvin Max, who was responsible for hosting the guests, directly escorted him to the banquet.
Other guests, hearing the commotion and seeing the ambulance leave, had complex expressions.
Mason Piers glanced at his son and lightly scolded, “What are you standing there for? Quickly go greet the guests for your brother.”
Adam Piers took the hint, put on a smile, and hurried to deal with the guests. He naturally understood his father’s intention.
Today’s attendees were all prominent people, and it was essential to maintain these connections.
They just didn’t know if that sickly person would go to Heaven today.
