Chapter 561 Greed

Chapter 561 Greed

Chapter 561  Greed

Brontes stood resilient amidst the silence that followed the devil's death. His colossal form exuded the aura of an absolute victor – someone that would likely never experience a loss in battle throughout their entire life.

The storm that he had summoned still churned above, but its fury was subsiding, with the clouds parting to reveal patches of starlit sky above. The golden lightning that once roared with untamed energy now crackled softly, like a heartbeat slowing after a tiring run.

Alex, leaning heavily on the shattered remains of the tree trunk, let out a shaky breath. His body was still weak, but immense relief washed over him as the oppressive darkness that suffocated the battlefield began to fade with no master left to tame its power.

For the first time since the fight began, the air felt breathable, with the energy of the land no longer warped by the devi's malice.

Through their bond, Alex could sense Brontes' weariness. But it wasn't towards the uncertainty of who would come out on top of this fight, as that was already set in stone from the moment Brontes made his appearance, but of Alex's condition. Yet Alex held his head high, fixating his gaze on the corpse of the dead devil.

'I felt something enter my inventory for just a mere moment after the devil's death… don't tell me…'

Alex felt his heartbeat increase faster and faster the more his thoughts churned. If he was guessing correctly, then he might be able to obtain soul orbs from beings that his tames slay…

'Too fucking op!!!' Alex screamed to himself, unsure of what to make of this revelation.

That devil was a genuine, no doubt about it, S tier being. While he was only a Mutant class, he was still an S tier being! Alex wouldn't miss an opportunity like this to absorb his first S tier soul orb ever!

'And I still have to absorb the King class Lux's soul orb as well… Things just keep getting better and better!'

The normally bustling Advent Garden stood in dark contrast to the chaos that unfolded thousands of kilometres away. Citizens bustled about their business and routines, unaware of the monumental clash that had taken place, save for the faint rumble that had briefly shaken the ground beneath their feet.

In the city centre, a group of powerful shadowy figures gathered, all standing with uneasy expressions. "Reports indicate that Lord Caius did indeed venture out to the outer wildlands," a scout informed Elira Vosteyn, one of the powerful A tiers that presided over the city from the shadows. When she heard the report from her scout, Elira's brows furrowed in worry, as she couldn't help but look off in the distance with a hint of urgence in her expression.

'This can't be any coincidence. Only the nine of us should have been able to detect that battle from this distance, and now I've just been told that Caius ventured in that direction…' Elira thought to herself, unsure of what to make of the situation.

She had a bad feeling about this entire thing. The energy she sensed from the direction he had ventured off into was far beyond anything Caius was capable of wielding. In fact, it was stronger than anything she had ever encountered before…

She had yet to meet an S tier being in her long life in this city, thanks to how desolate and isolated it was, but if she had to hazard a guess, then the aura she felt came from such a being…

Elira's unease deepened as she turned to the others gathered in the chamber Each was an A tier powerhouse in their own right, just like her. Every individual there had long dominated the delicate balance of power within Advent Garden. Yet even they exchanged wary glanced, as if silently acknowledging the gravity of this situation, as they had all sensed the same thing.

Some of them there were unlike Elira and had encountered S tier powerhouses in their lives, and she studied their faces carefully. However she didn't like what she was seeing. Their expressions were even more solemn than her own.

Darian Kael, a hulking man with steel grey hair and a scar that ran from his temple to his jawline, broke the silence that hung in the air. "If what you're saying is true, and Caius ventured into the wildlands to confront an S tier force… then he's either a fool or far more ambitious than we've given him credit for."

"Ambitious? No." Countered Selene Atrias, a lithe woman clad in shimmering black robes that seemed to ripple like liquid shadow. Her crimson eyes glinted beneath her hood.

"He's desperate. Caius always sought power beyond his reach. If he encountered an S tier being, it would explain the unnatural energy we felt – likely his demise."

A murmur of agreement swept through the group, but Elira shook her head, her expression rather grim. "This is a possibility, yes. But that only makes things even more complicated. What if he provoked this powerhouse, and now they still aren't satisfied after taking him out? Would they come for us next?"

The air in the chamber grew heavier after Elira's words. Her question hung ominously over the group. For a moment, no one spoke, each A tier powerhouse lost in their own thoughts, calculating the potential fallout of Caius' actions.

Darian crossed his arms, with his steel grey eyes narrowing. "But something doesn't add up. None of those aura's we felt belonged to Caius, so who exactly was fighting so close to the city?"

They were tens of thousands of kilometres away, which to normal unawakened people might seem like an insurmountable distance. But to powerhouses like the ones gathered in this chamber, this was just a brisk walk away.

Selene scoffed, with her crimson eyes flaring faintly as she leaned back against the wall. "If this S tier being is still active, the logical step would be to gauge its intentions. Perhaps it isn't interested in Advent Garden at all?"
