Chapter 195 Su Kuan's Confidence
Chapter 195 Su Kuan's Confidence
In the first VVVIP Room, the corner of James' mouth twitched, "What is he doing here?" But then he shook his head. "Actually… it makes sense that he's here. The commotion Senior caused this morning and a few hours ago was too big for him to ignore."
Fenwick chuckled.
"It's his city. It only makes sense for him to be here."
James also laughed.
"City Lord Cai is too cautious for his own good."
He then continued, "Or maybe, he's too hungry."
"Both," Garrett muttered, earning nods from James and Fenwick.
Meanwhile, after being startled by the voice, Yoshiko walked to her room's balcony, gazed down at the third VVVIP Room, and replied, "City Lord Cai, the Siren's Melody Poached Egg is a difficult dish to prepare and cook. Let alone 553 servings, just a single Siren's Melody Poached Egg requires ten minutes from start to finish.
I do apologize on the slight miscalculation on our part, next time we won't make the same mistake. But for now, I hope you can please wait."
The ignorant guests and attendants suddenly had a revelation.
'No wonder the voice sounded so familiar.'
They hastily bowed low, even lower than when they bowed to Su Kuan. Their foreheads touched the floor.
Just then, Su Kuan's voice sounded out, "Branch Leader, like City Lord Cai, I also came for the Siren's Melody Poached Egg. Can you give us an exact time when the food will be served to us? We are busy men. Especially City Lord Cai, he has a city to manage. Also, most of our city's experts are in Moon Grove Forest. It wouldn't be nice to make City Lord Cait wait."
He then looked at the bowing guests and attendants and continued, "What do you all think?"
Completely ignorant of the situation, they straightened their backs and voiced out in agreement.
"Sir Su Kuan is right."
"We can't let City Lord Cai wait. It should be a crime."
"If I could, I would give City Lord Cai and Sir Su Kuan my Siren's Melody Poached Egg. But… none of us have been served. How is this fair? Could it be our hard-earned Low-Grade Mana Stones been stolen?"
Su Kuan smiled with narrowed eyes.
"Minions are the best."
Beside him, Su Bei, who had been silently listening and watching from the beginning, frowned. With a worried tone, she asked, "Uncle Su, aren't you being too obvious that it was you?"
Su Kuan beamed.
"And?"
Su Bei tilted her head and blinked in confusion.
"And? Even if the idiots below are too dumb, James isn't. He's too smart. He'll realize it was us behind the poisoning."
"It doesn't matter. I don't need him like the rest." Su Kuan shrugged indifferently
But then, as though he just recalled something, he said in slight surprise, "Ah! That's right! The famous young chef is Sir James' personal chef! If there was anyone who could tell us how long it would take Chef Lucian, it would be him."
'This Su Kuan… He's jumping around too much. Was it him?' Following that thought, Yoshiko's eyes narrowed in suspicion.
The attack by the Ghouls, if it could even be called that, had set off her alarms from the start.
Their motive… was to sabotage the Siren's Melody Poached Eggs, which made no sense. Why would they go through so much trouble just for that? What would they receive in return?
Money?
Fame?
Treasures?
None of that. If they wanted those things, they should have attacked Chef Lucian and robbed him. But they did not.
Instead, they poisoned the Siren's Melody Poached Eggs.
From that fact alone and coupled with Su Kuan's instigating words, Yoshiko felt the Ghouls had been ordered to sabotage the food.
'Su Kuan… you better pray I don't find any evidence that it was you.' Yoshiko briefly glanced at Su Kuan's rotund body, then looked away. 'Don't think everyone in Harmony City is clueless about how you and your restaurant rose up.'
James, on the other hand, was none the wiser. He was still clueless as to what had transpired in Duan's Restaurant.
"I-"
But before he could respond to Su Kuan, he heard Yoshiko's voice, "Five minutes. Chef Lucian only requires another five minutes."
She then paused, and continued with a slight edge to her voice, "Or could it be Sir Su Kuan and the Esteemed Guests think the Dragon Phoenix Auction House will renege on their promise?"
"Of course not." The guests quickly shook their heads.
"I trust that the prestigious Dragon Phoenix Auction House will not cheat us of our hard-earned Mana Stones." Su Kuan said in a respectful tone.
However, inwardly, he was smiling disdainfully.
'Even if that brat is given a thousand years, the outcome is fixed.'
Soon, the guests began dining, while boasting about the items they won to their friends and enemies.

Meanwhile, back in Duan Mu's kitchen, Duan Mu and Mei held their breaths as they looked at the multicolored liquid in the pot.
It had been a minute since Chef Lucian added the Essence Silk Saffron and vinegar mixture into the pot, but nothing had changed. No bubbling. Not a single reaction that would indicate the Voidtear Essence had been neutralized.
It was not as though they had the ability to see the Voidtear Essence in the first place.
But Lucian, on the other hand, was different. Unbeknownst to the cripple and Head Attendant, Lucian's beautiful, deep, sapphire blue eyes had long ago transformed into eerie, dark purple vertical eyes.
Black tendrils of smoke swirled from his eyes, disappearing into the Void.
Previously, Lucian was no different from Mei and Duan Mu, but after the System informed him that his Dragon's Gaze would work on Voidtear Essence, he could see what they could not.
Dark red plumes of smoke rose from the pot as similarly colored tendrils danced within. The Voidtear Essence struggled to resist the enhanced Starlight Vinegar.
Time ticked by. Soon, another minute went by before several System Notifications appeared in Lucian's mind.
<{Congratulations! The Voidtear Essence has been successfully removed.}>
<{The Siren's Melody Poached Eggs are safe for consumption.}>
<{Quest Reward: Chef's Pride}>
<{Effect: When your pride is hurt, your mind will clear, allowing for focused and rational thinking.}>
<{Congratulations, your comprehension of Dragon's Gaze has reached the next level!}>
<{Dragon's Gaze Mastery: Level 1 —> 2}>
<{Rank: One Star Primordial}>
<{Description: A Bloodline Skill inherent to the Primordial Draconic Incubus. A single gaze can even cause the Gods to bow down in fear or make women your playthings!}>
"Done." Lucian indifferently announced as he stored the poached Siren's Melody Eggs in his Inventory. At the same time, he deactivated his Dragon's Gaze. He then walked to the sink and began washing his hands.
Duan Mu and Mei glanced at each other and saw the confusion on each other's faces.
Done?
The Voidtear Essence was purified that easily?
The Voidtear Essence was a legendary poison that caused countless Mages to fall from grace. Crippled and turned into nothing but ash awaited those who were poisoned.
Yet, Chef Lucian actually said the word, 'done'. Not only that, he had said it in the most indifferent way possible, as if the achievement was child's play.
After drying his hands with a kitchen towel, Lucian looked at the stunned pair and coughed.
"Are you two coming or do you want to make the guests wait longer"
"C-c-coming." Mei managed to stutter out.
Meanwhile, Duan Mu unconsciously nodded. He had many questions. However, he did not even know how to begin.
Of course, Lucian knew they had questions for him, but he could not be bothered. He had hungry guests waiting for him.
With that in mind, he left the kitchen followed by Duan Mu and Mei.
Just then, an aged voice was heard from a table. "Senior, you're finally out. Why did it take so long? You're two minutes late. The intermission period has already started. Actually, it doesn't matter.
Let's hurry to the Dragon Phoenix Auction House."
Turning in the direction of the voice, Lucian saw Carlton. 'Oh. I forgot about him.'
Nevertheless, Lucian nodded, "Let's go."
They then left the restaurant for Dragons Phoenix Auction House.

Meanwhile, deep in the Ravenscroft Family Garden, in front of Kaida's home, the cold night air was filled with the scent of charred wood. Sitting beside the fireplace, a tall, hulking figure was gutting and cleaning a pig using his razor-sharp pincers.

The man was in the middle of preparing his late-night meal, or early-morning meal, depending on one's perspective.
With each second that passed, his yawns grew in length and volume. His eyes were already heavy, much to his displeasure.
"Why the Hell was I assigned to guard her during the night?"
He had lost count of how many times he uttered the same sentence.
Suddenly, his pincer froze, and his droopy eyes widened in disbelief as a Netherbane Chive disappeared from Kaida's region.
From the very first moment he was assigned guard duty he activated his Mana Sense to envelope the region. Since he was only a Mana Core Formation Realm Mage and limited by his Race, he could only cover the surrounding 500 feet, but it was more than enough. After all, as long as Kaida remained within his Mana Sense, he could monitor her and have peace of mind.
"This… Where did the Netherbane Chive go?" Zar'x rubbed his sleep-deprived eyes, unwilling to believe what had just happened.
A moment ago, there was a Netherbane Chive, yet the very next moment, all that remained was a hole in the soil.
