Chapter 414: Roxanne vs Terrance

Chapter 414: Roxanne vs Terrance

Altaria, with its impeccable qualities and unfathomable strength, an extremely aggressive Arcanine, and the Mismagius that toyed with the minds of other Pokémon—none of the Pokémon Terrance had deployed were ones the challengers considered easy to handle.

“So, in the end, I have to deal with this guy?”

Roxanne’s crimson eyes watched the arena intently. According to the order, it was now her turn to step up.

Even Brawly, whose strength slightly surpassed hers, had been defeated. Roxanne wasn’t feeling too confident, as she knew she wasn’t particularly skilled at handling Ghost-type Pokémon.

Even now, she still hadn’t fully figured out what kind of illusion Mismagius had created.

As Roxanne walked forward slowly, Terrance offered her a faint smile. “Gym Leader Roxanne, we meet again.”

“Indeed. Back when we met at Trainer’s School, you were still traveling around, collecting Ribbons and Badges. I never imagined you’d become a Gym Trainer yourself.”

When Roxanne had first heard of Terrance’s rise to fame, she’d found it a bit hard to believe.

“Speaking of that, I just remembered—there’s still an unfinished Gym Battle between us.”

Due to the urgent message from Steven about the meteorite at the time, Terrance had no choice but to leave Rustboro City, so he politely declined Roxanne’s invitation for Gym Battle.

Now, the battle could finally resume.

“However, I plan to switch Pokémon,” Terrance remarked as he glanced at Mismagius. With ten more opponents left and Roxanne specializing in Rock-type, Terrance suddenly felt like playing to his type advantage, assuming Roxanne would stick to her Rock-type Pokémon.

“Oh? Please, go ahead,” Roxanne responded, unfazed. She wasn’t good at dealing with Mismagius anyway, and since it had already expended some of its stamina, she saw Terrance’s decision to switch Pokémon as favorable.

A fair match—that was what every Trainer should strive for.

“You did great, Mismagius. I’ll leave the rest to Castform.”

Terrance withdrew Mismagius into the Poké Ball and sent out an ash-gray Castform in its place. Seeing the newly appeared little cutie, Roxanne was startled.

“Terrance switched his Pokémon!”

Not only her but also the other Trainers around perked up with renewed interest. So far, every Pokémon Terrance had sent out was not easy to deal with—could this Castform also be hiding formidable strength?

“Castform can change its type based on the weather… meaning it might turn into a Water-type,” Roxanne recalled, her expression growing serious as she reviewed what she knew about Castform. She reached for the second Poké Ball on her belt.

“Go, Probopass!”

Roxanne sent out her Steel/Rock-type Probopass!

“They are like Beauty and the Beast…” Terrance chuckled. Castform turned its head away, a look of disdain evident on its face. Hanging from its body was a glistening blue water droplet, clearly visible to Roxanne across from them. [TN: Author uses another chinese words here which means Tall and Rugged Male Lead and a Petite Female Lead similar to Beauty and the Beast.]

Mystic Water…

“Begin the battle… now!” Scarlet, noticing that everyone was growing impatient, wasted no time in signaling the start.

As soon as he spoke, the expressions of the two Trainers on the stage grew serious.

“Castform, Rain Dance!” Terrance ordered swiftly. The outcome hinged entirely on whether Castform could use the weather move first!

But just then—Bzzt!—a powerful oppressive force enveloped Castform. It was as if countless black threads had descended upon the arena, making it extremely eerie!

Pfff!

Castform panicked, its floating body forcibly pressed to the ground as if growing unbearably heavy.

Gravity!

By manipulating gravity, Probopass successfully prevented Castform from executing its move. With the setup complete, Probopass immediately sprang into action again at Roxanne’s command!

“Use Lock-On!”

A mysterious wave of electricity enveloped Probopass, and a glint flashed in its eyes. After a series of complex calculations, Castform’s entire body was immediately locked within its hunting range.

The move Lock-On ensured that the next attack would almost certainly hit its target, leaving it with almost no chance to evade!

It could be said that Castform was now bound in place before Probopass, like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered!

From the very beginning of the battle, Roxanne had perfectly controlled Castform using Gravity and Lock-On. The Trainers watching had no doubt that, given Castform’s size, a single attack would inflict fatal damage.

Not only was it unable to float anymore, but it was also under the interference of Gravity and Lock-On. Anything Castform did would be in vain.

“Impressive. I didn’t expect Castform’s Rain Dance to be interrupted so easily,” Terrance praised.

Yet, he wasn’t the least bit afraid that Castform would be hit.

Even if the opponent’s next move was guaranteed to hit, couldn’t they still counterattack instead of trying to dodge?

“Probopass, Rock Blast!”

“Castform, stay where you are and use Hydro Pump!”

On the other end of the arena, several boulders materialized around Probopass and shot toward Castform. Meanwhile, Castform, still burdened by the gravitational force, was unable to lift itself off the ground. Even executing its Hydro Pump was being hindered by the pressure of Gravity.

Therefore, the angle and force had to be precisely calculated!

Castform, sensing its surroundings, didn’t need Terrance’s reminder to understand this. After being locked on, Castform didn’t think about dodging.

Hydro Pump! Or rather…

Water Arrow!

Five massive rocks came hurtling toward it, and Castform, in response, condensed and spat out five highly compressed Hydro Pump, shooting them out like water arrows, one after another, each hitting its mark with pinpoint accuracy. The way it used Hydro Pump was nothing short of outrageous!

“Hydro Pump can be used like that?!” A lot of spectators, shocked by the unconventional execution of the move Hydro Pump, voiced their disbelief.

“What’s so surprising? I once saw a Swampert in the Champion League shatter Hydro Pump with its fists, sending water droplets flying like bullets!”

Many were deeply captivated by Castform’s unique use of Hydro Pump. Most Water-type Pokémon knew this move, and it sparked a desire in them to learn this technique.

However, the process of mastering it would certainly not be as easy as they imagined.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The five Hydro Pumps spat out by Castform shattered the rocks, their force spent. At that moment, streams of sand began to rise from the ground, and countless grains of sand gathered around Probopass. Its Sand Force Ability had activated!

In Sandstorm weather, the power of Rock-, Ground-, and Steel-type moves increased significantly.

“You made the worst possible decision!” Roxanne exhaled. By interrupting Castform’s weather move, she had bought herself enough time to transform the arena into her domain, cutting off Castform’s chance to change the weather. This was the strategy she had devised.

In her experience, Castform was particularly ill-suited to sandstorm weather, while her Probopass, thanks to its Sand Force Ability, had trained extensively in sandstorm weather!

Now that the weather had shifted to a Sandstorm, even if Castform possessed the ability to change the weather, it would require more effort and time—time Roxanne fully intended to use for Probopass to launch a decisive strike!
