Chapter 109: The Regent’s Disciple

Shi Wei was a textbook example of a noble daughter, pampered from birth and accustomed to a life of ease. Her close relationship with Qin Li further elevated her status within her family, earning her boundless affection and privilege.

Though she wasn’t inherently cruel or heartless, she was undeniably arrogant and looked down on commoners, believing nobles to be inherently superior.

To Shi Wei, Gu Anran, the seemingly naïve and clumsy girl, was nothing more than a lowly commoner. Normally, Shi Wei wouldn’t have bothered targeting someone like her.

However, Gu Anran had just ruined her carefully prepared gown—a gown she had meticulously chosen because she knew Qin Xian would be attending the auction.

Now, Shi Wei stood there humiliated, her appearance a mess.

Zhao Haoran, Yang Ling, and Xu Taichu were not having it. Their expressions turned cold as they glared at Shi Wei.

Zhao Haoran stepped forward angrily. “Anran is not a lowly person, and it wasn’t intentional!”

Shi Wei retorted with a frosty look. “Not intentional? Then how did she trip? There are no steps here!”

The crowd began to murmur, casting skeptical glances at Gu Anran. After all, how could someone fall on a perfectly flat surface?

Gu Anran, her face full of grievance, muttered softly, “But I really didn’t mean to… I’m just clumsy and always falling. I’m so sorry…”

Even Qin Li, who had been observing silently, couldn’t help but frown. Was this girl truly clumsy, or was she playing the part of a bumbling beauty?

Yang Ling, the young master of the Future Guild, spoke up in a calm yet pointed tone. “How much does your gown cost? I’ll pay you ten times its price. Will that satisfy you?”

He had never feared anyone when it came to wealth. Though Shi Wei’s background was unclear to him, he didn’t care. For Gu Anran, he was willing to challenge anyone.

Gu Anran quickly shook her head, waving her hands. “No, no! It’s my fault, so I should compensate!”

She reached into her bag, pulled out a modest wallet, and retrieved a few hundred yuan, offering it earnestly to Shi Wei.

“Will this be enough?” she asked with a sincere, innocent smile.

Shi Wei stared at the meager handful of cash, her body trembling with rage.

Was this a joke?

Her custom-made gown was worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, with individual accessories alone costing tens of thousands. Yet Gu Anran dared to offer her a few hundred? This wasn’t just an insult—it was outright humiliation!

Enraged beyond measure, Shi Wei snapped, “Throw this idiot out! Someone like her has no place here!”

Several auction house guards, recognizing Shi Wei’s status, stepped forward to follow her command.

Gu Anran looked on in bewilderment, her face full of confusion and hurt. She had apologized, offered compensation, and still, Shi Wei was furious. Did her offer really fall so short?

She thought for a moment. If a few hundred wasn’t enough, she could tap into her scholarship money and offer a few thousand. Surely that would be sufficient.

For Gu Anran, a gown costing tens of thousands seemed unimaginably extravagant.

The guards hesitated as they approached, but before they could act, Zhao Haoran, Yang Ling, and Xu Taichu stepped in, shielding Gu Anran protectively.

Xu Taichu spoke in an icy tone. “Anran has a valid invitation to this auction. Are you planning to throw out a guest with an invitation?”

A chilling aura began to emanate from him, sending shivers through the guards.

As a former national champion and now a Level 39 SS-ranked Breaking Dawn War God, Xu Taichu was widely regarded as a future legend. His reputation was known even among the empire’s elites, and his potential was heavily endorsed by the empire’s highest authorities.

Facing him, coupled with Zhao Haoran’s and Yang Ling’s powerful backgrounds, the guards froze, unsure of how to proceed.

Suddenly, a commanding voice rang out, “I’d like to see who dares throw Anran out or call her a lowly person!”

The crowd turned to see a handsome young man striding confidently toward them. His expression was calm, but his every movement exuded an intimidating authority.

“Young Master Wen!”

Gasps rippled through the gathered nobles. Many bowed in deference.

The young man was Wen Xu, the eldest son of the illustrious Wen family of the Imperial Capital.

The Wen family had risen to prominence within the past two decades, becoming one of the empire’s most influential new aristocratic houses.

Wen Xu’s elder sister, Wen Yu, was a legendary figure in the empire—a Level 60 SSS-ranked Divine Seer and the youngest individual to achieve such a level.

Wen Yu served as the supreme commander of the Eastern Army, stationed on the Void Frontline with the rank of lieutenant general. More importantly, she was the personal disciple of the empire’s regent, Lu Ji, making the Wen family closely tied to the Regency Council.

Though Wen Xu himself was not a disciple of the regent, his talent was exceptional. As an SS-ranked Paladin, he was second only to Qin Xian’s Oracle Knight within the knight professions.

Wen Xu’s connection to the Regency Council and his family’s meteoric rise made him an untouchable figure in the capital.

But what truly shocked the crowd was his interest in Gu Anran. Even Wen Xu liked her? What kind of charm did Gu Anran possess?
