CHAPTER 152 -Abduction.

CHAPTER 152 -Abduction.

The crisp evening air was cool against Alex's skin as he stepped outside Thorin's house, the wooden door creaking closed behind him. He paused for a moment, gazing at the twilight sky painted in hues of orange and violet. With a sharp whistle, he summoned Nyxia.

The great owl's cry echoed through the street as she swooped down from the clouds, her sleek feathers glinting faintly in the fading sunlight. The powerful flaps of her wings stirred the air, catching the attention of nearby passersby.

Thorin trailed behind Alex, his footsteps heavy against the cobblestones. His face was etched with a mixture of skepticism and frustration.

Alex turned to face him, his movements deliberate and unhurried. From within his coat, he retrieved a small glass vial filled with a shimmering liquid that caught the last rays of daylight, casting refracted rainbows on the ground.

Without a word, he tossed it toward Thorin, who caught it instinctively. The vial felt cool in his hands, the liquid inside swirling with an almost otherworldly glow.

"What's this?" Thorin asked, his brows furrowed as he examined the vial. His fingers tightened around it protectively, a faint tremor betraying the disbelief bubbling beneath his exterior.

Alex smirked faintly. "The cure for your mother's illness." His voice was calm, yet the weight of his words pressed heavily in the air.

Thorin's grip on the vial faltered, and he nearly stumbled as the realization hit him. His eyes darted between the precious potion and Alex, a storm of emotions flickering across his face: shock, hope, gratitude—and anger.

"You just... tossed this at me?" Thorin's voice rose, a sharp edge of incredulity cutting through his tone. "Do you have any idea how precious this is? How much this means?"

Before Thorin could continue, Alex raised a hand, silencing him with a steady gaze. "This is my way of showing trust," Alex said, his voice unwavering. "I believe you won't go back on your word. The next time we meet, you'll sign the contract."

Thorin opened his mouth to respond, but Alex had already turned away. With practiced ease, he climbed onto Nyxia's broad back, her talons scraping against the cobblestones as she prepared to take off. Thorin could only watch as Alex and the magnificent owl soared into the sky, their figures silhouetted against the setting sun.

"Trust, huh?" Thorin muttered, glancing down at the vial in his hand. He turned it over carefully, watching the liquid shimmer like molten silver. With a deep sigh, he shook his head and headed back inside, his heart torn between hope and skepticism. "I hope this isn't another scam," he muttered under his breath, closing the door behind him.

He had failed way too many times to believe in Alex just because of what he felt.

...............

As Nyxia climbed higher into the sky, the cool wind rushing past Alex's face seemed to carry away the tension from his encounter. His earlier urgency and anger dissipated, replaced by a calmness that was almost unnerving.

[Your way of fooling your friends to fool your enemies is something I always fail to understand.] Sophie's voice echoed in his mind, her tone tinged with mild exasperation.

Alex's lips curled into a faint smile. "It's necessary. If Thorin doubts me, so will others. And if others doubt me, the enemy will grow bold."

Alex knew about this abduction before it even happened. He knew this would happen.

It was something that was supposed to happen later in the plot. Forced with no other option, Lilia was supposed to orchestrate her own abduction, disappearing from the academy to be never seen again.

Sophie sighed. [So you're aware that this is not a simple orchestrated abduction, right?]

"I do," Alex admitted, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The faint outline of the student council's main building was just beginning to come into view.

He knew that this wasn't how it was supposed to be in the plot. Lilia had changed things. She didn't let her disappearance be known for a long time, but this time, she made it so that a huge ruckus would be caused.

"She did this so we could use it to corner the group of teachers more," Alex spoke as he could tell what Lilia was trying to do.

She was trying to show them that she wasn't running away by abandoning us. She was showing that even if she had disappeared, she would give them a last gift.

However, Alex was sure that none of the council members had realized it yet because all of them probably thought that it really was an abduction.

[She didn't even say goodbye properly,] Sophie pointed out, her voice softer now. [Maybe that last dance at your birthday party was her way of saying goodbye.]

For a moment, Alex didn't respond. Memories of the dance flickered in his mind: the warmth of her hand in his, the soft light casting a golden glow over her features, and the bittersweet smile she wore as they moved to the music. His jaw tightened, and he pushed the thought away.

"It doesn't matter," he said at last, his tone firm. "What matters is ensuring her plan works. If her father suspects I was aware, it could jeopardize everything. For now, I need to make this look as real as possible."

[You're going to have to meet her as well, Alex,] Sophie warned.

"That I will," Alex replied, his voice steely.

.................

The student council's main building was a hive of chaos. Members rushed about, their faces pale and their voices overlapping in panicked conversation.

"I heard she was taken from her room..."

"No, someone saw her near the east gate yesterday!"

"Do you think it's the Demon Lord's doing?"

"What if she's... gone for good?"

The tension was palpable, an undercurrent of fear rippling through the crowd. When Alex dismounted from Nyxia and stepped into view, a hush fell over the gathering. All eyes turned to him, their expressions a mix of hope, desperation, and confusion.

"It's Alex."

"Look at his face..."

"He looks furious. Do you think he knows something?"

"Maybe he's here to fix this. He's also a vice president, after all."

"But what if he's just as lost as we are?"

Alex's expression was a mask of controlled rage, his movements purposeful as he strode through the crowd. Each step was measured, exuding authority and determination. The students parted before him like waves before a ship, their whispered speculations fading into the background.

Reaching the building's entrance, Alex paused and surveyed the gathered members, his gaze sharp and commanding.

"We'll get to the bottom of this," he declared, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. "But I need everyone to stay calm and focus. Panic will only make things worse."

The crowd nodded hesitantly, murmurs of agreement rippling through them. Alex's presence had already begun to restore a semblance of order, but the weight of the situation still hung heavy in the air.

With a final glance at the worried faces around him, Alex stepped inside the building, the door closing firmly behind him. The real work was about to begin.

He would be meeting the student council members after a three-day break, but the situation wasn't the type he wanted it to be.
