Chapter 109 Discovery
Chapter 109 Discovery
Discovery
Titus knew that both his master and his elder disciples were in a different league.
It wasn't anything strange really. They had all either been stronger than him before they were taken in by Christopher, or had been subject to the enhancement longer than him, so it wasn't surprising that they were stronger than him.
That said, knowing they were stronger than him, and knowing HOW much stronger they were was different.
When Titus sparred with Kim, he was starting to get an idea of the gap that existed between himself and the others. Still, he felt like while wide, it wasn't insurmountable.
That's until he saw them go all out.
'What am I even watching?!' He shouted in his mind for the umpteenth time as he struggled to keep his footing due to the devastating shockwaves that were being released from the catastrophic battle that was going on.
He was at the very far edge of the training room, as far from the fight as possible. And yet just the aftershocks alone were making him feel like a raft in the midst of a storm.
He couldn't even see the people that were fighting either, other than vague slashes and massive attacks that made him fear for his life, he could hardly make them out. Even the giant dragon that was Lenax was no different from a blue streak of light that moved too fast.
And the scary thing was that their strength was controlled.
The smarter one was when it came to fighting, the more refined their combat style would be.
The essence of combat, true combat, was to defeat your opponent. The stronger the opponent, the stronger you would have to be to compensate.
However, if your opponent was a single person, there was no need to waste time or energy creating massive large scale attacks unless it was necessary, otherwise, it was just a waste because for starters, such things usually required more time to prepare, which would give the target time to move, unless they were being held in place. And second, it was a waste of energy, especially considering that charging up big and flashy Attacks wasn't light on one's reserves.
As such, battles like these were fought in an intelligent manner where there were no wasted movements and both sides only made the moves required to win.
So the fact that despite this, the absolute monstrosities that were Titus' elder disciples were still releasing shockwaves that would turn him into meat paste if he got even a bit closer was horrifying to think about.
And what was even more insane Was that they were getting utterly manhandled by Christopher!
He couldn't see it properly, but judging by how the flashes that represented the members of the cohort kept getting tossed away, sometimes hitting the other side of the training room with terrible impacts was enough for him to guess That they were getting beat up. A lot.

'They are quite coordinated considering how many of them there are.' Christopher thought as his eyes moved around with incredible speed.
Kim appeared out of thin air by his side, then she started teleporting around him rapidly, so fast that it looked as though there were multiple of her spinning around him.
'There.' Christopher held out his arm and blocked a swipe from her that came from an angle that should have been unexpected.
He blocked her razor sharp claws with his arm that wasn't covered by anything, but instead of bleeding or even getting scratched, there was a rain of sparks as Kim's attack was rebounded.
Christopher vanished a moment later and reappeared in front of a startled Chiara who had been preparing her Dragon's breath and gave her an uppercut, snapping her jaw shut and sending her flying.
His body then blurred and started leaving afterimages as he avoided countless silver beams that rained down on him from above, their source being the artificial Moon Silver had created.
As he dodged them, Silver himself and Prism who had several reflections of herself joined in and started to clash with him, but he easily repelled both of them without sustaining any damage.
He essentially batted them aside, then he looked up at the artificial moon and made a crushing gesture with his hand. And the thing crumbled immediately.
"You guys are gonna have to try harder than that." He said as everyone slowly surrounded him.
They seemed dishevelled, but not really hurt as Christopher hadn't actually done any serious damage to any of them. Still he was as pristine and clean as before the fight started.
He was holding back quite a bit as he was still getting a grip on his new strength and he didn't want to accidentally punch a hole through someone.
Well.. he undid Half of the undead army Thanatos had spawned in for the fight because he wanted to see what would happen if he punched a bit harder.
At that moment, the members of the Cohort gave each other subtle glances. Then they moved.
Kim and Silver dashed forward and both of them appeared by Christopher's sides, claws ready to strike.
But right before they did, they were suddenly replaced by the twins, both of whom were ready to unleash their Dragon's breath.
They did so, Light and Darkness engulfing Christopher's form.
Without waiting to see if it was successful or not. Lenax moved as well. Ice suddenly erupted from the ground where Christopher was and turned into a massive glacier that stretched very high.
And floating above said Glacier was Belladonna who's Vermillion Reapers were engulfed with Crimson flames.
With a yell, she thrust both short swords downwards and a terrifying jet of red fire blasted down and engulfed the Glacier and resulted in a titanic explosion that shook the room.
However, Christopher emerged from the smoke virtually unharmed. But he took a step and suddenly froze.
He looked down and saw skeletal limbs grabbing his limbs and preventing Him from moving.
An instant later, an Ivory tail crashed down on his shoulder and generated a terrifying explosion.
Christopher reached for Chiara, but she was teleported out of his reach before he could grab her. And in her place was an orb of pitch black darkness that immediately expanded and tried to swallow Christopher.
Christopher however just waved his hand and the orb got dispelled. But as it was, Kim who had returned to her human form was already throwing a punch.
It smashed into his chest and lightning erupted from the point of impact and sent Christopher flying.
However, he calmly flipped and landed on his feet.
All of this happened within a nanosecond.
'Interesting.' As they fought and Christopher intentionally made poor attempts to defend himself, He noticed something interesting.
That was the lack of damage he was sustaining.
Every time the members of the cohort managed to land a hit, he noticed that the force that was meant to be dished out was dampened significantly right before it hit him. And his incredibly durable body would disperse the rest.
He wasn't making any conscious effort to do this either and seemed to be some sort of passive skill.
'System?' Christopher asked as he raised his arms and effortlessly caught the assaults of Belladonna and Prism. Then he pulled them against their will and made them eat attacks from the others like shields.
[After Transcending and becoming an Apex being as well as reaching the 4th Dimension. The Master gained a multitude of boons, one of which is a passive Barrier that severely or even nullifies attacks generated by beings that haven't transcended.] Hearing this, Christopher's eyes widened slightly and he called out.
"Everyone stop." The group immediately froze and stared at him with confusion, frustration, and exhaustion.
"What's wrong?" Umbra asked. His form that of a flickering shadow.
Christopher didn't answer, instead, he gestured to Lenax.
"Hit me as hard as you can." The Dragon's eyes widened slightly.
"Are you sure, Master?" Lenax asked with apprehension, his large form looking unsure.
Christopher just nodded.
"Yeah, don't hold back. I'll be fine, don't worry." Hearing this, the Dragon relaxed and nodded.
Then, his Aura erupted with terrifying force and seemed to drown the room, and Titus who was far away found it difficult to breathe, as though he was drowning.
Everyone immediately cleared the way. None of the members of the cohort were interested in enduring Lenax's strongest attack. Experience more content on empire
Christopher just stood there with his arms folded, his hair swaying in the wind(?) that filled the room.
A powerful roar left the Dragon's mouth as a blinding blue radiance erupted from his maw and his claws dug into the ground, leaving deep grooves as he prepared a full power Dragon's breath.
With another earth shaking roar, he opened his mouth wide and a beam of blue light that seemed as Vast as an endless ocean and carried with it a frigid cold that froze space itself.
Christopher looked unperturbed, but in reality his heart was pounding.
'This might be a dumb idea.' He thought, but he was determined to keep his cool outlook, so he showed no expression.
Finally, the beam reached him. And he noticed something almost immediately.
Even without hitting him, he could feel the terrifying force the beam contained, and he had no doubt that if it had hit the planet before it assimilated with his Dimension, it would either have exploded or had a hole in its center.
And yet, right before it hit him, it was as though it had reached a certain threshold, and the force of the attack was reduced to a small fragment of its original power.
The force was still impressive, but considering how strong Christopher's body was…
Christopher felt the attack hit him. However, he was like an immovable mountain in a storm as the beam parted the moment it struck him, going to his left and right side almost immediately.
Christopher felt a bit chilly, and his chest felt slightly tight. But that was about it.
By the time the attack ended, there were two deep grooves in the ground where the beam had parted which grew wider and deeper until they hit the far wall which had frozen over. It looked terrifying to say the least.
But Christopher was unscathed.
"What the-!" Everyone was stunned, but Lenax was the most shocked. They had all known Christopher was especially tanks considering they had all landed a hit on him at least a few times during the spar.
Still, they were certain that he'd be pushed back at the very least. But to be completely fine after that was crazy.
'That's a pretty strong barrier!' Even Christopher was surprised.
[Indeed. The barrier functions on a metaphysical level, siphoning and nullifying the force of attacks below a certain threshold. This threshold is directly tied to the distinction between transcended and non-transcended beings.] Christopher nodded thoughtfully.
'And it's completely passive?' He asked.
[Yes. However, it doesn't stop all damage. Beings of the same level can mitigate it or completely bypass it if they are significantly stronger.] The system explained and Christopher nodded having expected that.
"... Alright, well stop there for today…" Christopher said a bit absently and everyone sighed.
Not being able to deal any damage to your opponent was very frustrating to say the least, so they didn't mind stopping. However his next words made them shudder.
"Actually scratch that I've barely attacked you guys. Let's keep at it." They all looked aggrieved, especially the older members of the group, knowing fully well that they were gonna get beat up.
