Chapter 1408: Flying Crab

Chapter 1408: Flying Crab

Arthur could not recognize the Spirit Realm anymore. The seekers were more abundant, almost like crows flocking together. After meeting a few of them, they realized that they could increase their spiritual energy by hunting abyssal spirits that escaped the lowest layer.

The Infra-Layer had the weaker spirits that managed to reach the nearest layer. In higher layers, the abyssal spirits would be more powerful since their migration to a higher layer required a certain level of strength.

"What are we supposed to do now without these Soulbinds?" asked Tiara as she floated above him.

After inquiring with the other seekers, it seemed flight was quite rare, and most of them had basic abilities that allowed them to fight ethereal creatures. Arthur hadn’t met anyone who could produce an almost-physical weapon or item like his chains.

The chains themselves were mystical. They seemed to wrap creation in their folds, and each one was lined with different runes. Arthur tried to attack a small rock on the side with one of them, and it turned to stone.

"Is that what you intended?" Tiara descended from the sky.

"Not sure what I intended," Arthur said with a shrug as he retrieved his chain. "I just know it will be useful. Did you find a path toward the mountain from above?"

"I did," Tiara said as she rose higher. "There is one going around the lake, but I can see so many auras from here. There could be spirits in our path."

"Is there no other way to reach the Green Mountain?" asked Arthur as he looked at her. For some strange reason, his voice turned into wisps of spiritual energy and reached her despite how high she ascended.

Tiara descended. "I can’t see one," she said. "Should we avoid them?"

"I wanted to avoid them in order to avoid hurting spirits," Arthur said with a sigh as his chains appeared. "If any of them decide to block our path… then it’s their fault."

Tiara stared at him stride forward and looked at the ground. His footsteps left deep marks on the ground, as if his very manifestation of spiritual energy was barely contained in a vessel.

The two of them walked toward the forest that barricaded the lake. As they approached it, they could sense the spirits roaming inside. Not all of them were hostile, and not all of them belonged to the abyss. Most of them were natural inhabitants who hated being disturbed.

"I can just fly above the forest," Tiara said. "Do you want me to carry you over there?"

"…That would be humiliating," Arthur said as he turned toward her. "And I have a feeling that it would be wrong for us to touch each other in our current forms."

"Dangerous?" she asked.

"No idea," he replied. "I wouldn’t recommend trying it out."

Tiara stared at him with curiosity, although she had no eyes. Arthur could feel her sneak behind him to land a finger on his back but flying away the moment he slowed his pace and turned. In the end, he relented.

"Are you sure you want to try it out?"

"I want to know what would happen. Wait. I wouldn’t die, would I?"

"I’m not that omnipotent," Arthur said with a snicker as his golden figure fluttered in the wind. "But I do imagine that something would happen to both of us, given that our souls came in direct contact with each other."

"Sounds fun," Tiara said with a mischievous tone. "Let’s do it!"

Arthur sighed and reached out a hand toward her for a simple handshake. Tiara did the same, and their souls came in contact with one another. It was for a brief moment, but Arthur saw memories that did not belong to him.

A young child stood inside the giant forest. Days went by without a visitor as she learned to harness the powers of nature. Her control over mana was unwavering, as was the hole in her heart. The emotions transmitted to him as his memories transmitted to her.

The two broke off their handshake with a flinch as the memories appeared in their minds. Arthur and Tiara stood in silence, each learning of a distant memory about one another. Neither said a word as they resumed their trip through the forest.

Arthur knew that being the princess of elves alienated Tiara. It was only now that she began forming friendships with people outside her race since the truth about the elves was becoming more known throughout the world.

Tiara sneaked a few peeks at him now and then, probably having witnessed something similar to his. It shouldn’t be anything important or embarrassing, but it was enough to let the two grow an inch closer.

"Is that a giant flying crab?!" Tiara shouted from above as she pointed. Arthur turned his gaze to find a giant crab floating in the air and moving sideways toward them. Tiara’s voice brought its attention toward them.

The crab moved closer, albeit sideways, at a brisk pace. Arthur took a step back expecting an attack, but he was surprised to see the crab descend to the ground at his feet. It lowered itself enough as if bowing to Arthur.

"What?" Arthur asked with confusion. "Do you want me to ride you?"

The crab nodded, to Arthur’s confusion. A distant memory of how spirits loved Arthur because of his overwhelming spiritual energy surfaced in his mind. Arthur grinned as he stepped atop the crab under the disbelieving eyes of Tiara.

As soon as Arthur stood atop the giant spirit, the crab moved its feet and kicked the ground to soar. Arthur was a little unsteady as he tried to sit down. The crab floated in the air in circles of joy.

"Why is it happy?" asked Tiara, who floated beside Arthur.

"I have no idea," Arthur repeated. "In any case, I just obtained a flying mount! You aren’t the only one to fly now!"

"…I can fly higher," she said to remind him, but Arthur pretended to ignore her. The crab flew over the forest and the lake following Arthur’s directions. Along the way, abyssal spirits began to emerge to hinder their journey.
