Vol. 14 - Chapter 19 - Clan House Design (3/3)
“Master, what is this thing at the center of the highest floor of the clan house?”
Youko’s interest was piqued by the new object that Halt conjured while manipulating the 3D image of the clan house mid-air.
Halt, as the clan leader, has his own office situated on the third floor of the clan house, right in the middle. This room was surrounded with other rooms that served either as storage areas for rare materials, or else parlors for his family members. The commission and quest reception counter, meeting rooms for business deals and the training hall were all located on the first floor. The second floor served as the residence for clan members who weren’t part of the Ernol family.
On a small section of the fifth floor, a hollowed out cylindrical object stood vertically, and it contained a smaller hemispherical object in it.
“Oh, this? Well, this is –”
Halt suddenly smirked.
“It’s just a simple hemisphere at normal times, but it’ll turn into this in times of war.”
Two pairs of thin, long planks appeared and extended towards the exterior of the building. It was as if –
“What’s this? Kinda looks like an gun battery, huh.”
Guns don't exist yet in this world. Gunpowder had already been invented and they also use cannons, but they hadn’t been reduced to a size that people can hold and carry with them anywhere.
As Luke mentioned, Halt designed it to look like an artillery battery instead of the usual cylindrical cannon common in this world.
“You got it right, Luke.”
“...Huh?” “This is a gun battery?”
Luke and Youko were both dumbfounded.
“Halt-san, are you serious?”
“Does that mean you’re going to arm the top floor of the clan house?”
Leaffa, Merdie and the others didn’t hear anything about this from Halt. However, there were several people who participated in his experiment to make this happen.
“A-Are they the type of weapons that will solidify mana and fire them as magic bullets…?”
“That’s too much, Luna-san. We all know how excellent our Danna-sama is, but there’s no way he can create a weapon that can target the entire world, right?”
Everytime Halt develops new spells and technology that didn’t exist in this world, Luna would be his most- talented assistant, supporting him with her vast plethora of knowledge. Sitri, who was also the former Demon King, also possessed wisdom that wouldn’t lose against Luna, and she also excelled in mana manipulation. Thus, she was also involved in his experiments to turn his visions into reality, although she sometimes ‘accidentally’ revealed things that Halt hadn’t discussed to anyone else yet.
“Let’s say we can set the firing range to be the entire world, we still have to monitor everything and everywhere just to ensure that we accurately aim at the target. Is that even possible?”
Halt always gets Tina’s permission first before he conducts his experiments, except for instances when he wanted to surprise her. Since the strongest half-elf also excels in magic detection, she’s also one of Halt’s collaborators, naturally.
“This is based on a weapon we had in our previous world. It’s called a rail gun!”
Halt’s team consisted of four people, and the last one on the list was no other than his former little sister, the heroine Akari who also possessed knowledge about rail guns.
Akari inadvertently revealed that she was also involved in this project right up front. However, several people also realized that Luna, Sitri and Tina must be in the know too. Kikyou, Seira and Leaffa were all very intuitive. However, they opted not to make a fuss, since they’ve been long used to Halt doing something out of the ordinary.
This weapon was named “Magical Cannon”, and the entire world was set as its firing range, meaning the coverage would span the ends of the world. The amount of mana consumed by a single shot from this cannon would be equivalent to a single tail of a perfected Nine-tail fox. It was so powerful that it could instantly annihilate demons that appear in the Human Realm.
Halt, Sitri and Akari all had the ability to teleport, and they’ve spent several days installing surveillance markers around the world. These markers were usually hidden by magic so that people won’t notice them, and they also had the ability to detect mana infused with the aura of the Evil God. Once it encounters such aura, it would immediately trigger the magic cannon to fire.
The magic cannon needs around ten seconds to accumulate mana in its barrel, and during that time, information about the target would be transmitted from the marker to the person authorized to fire the weapon, namely Halt, Tina, Sitri and Akari. They have the ability to see through majins and demons that disguised themselves as humans. Moreover, these four people didn’t have any qualms eliminating their foes on the spot.
Kikyou also possessed such characteristics and abilities, so after Halt explained how the cannon works, he also authorized her.
“Heh~ so it’s a weapon that can insta-kill demons regardless of wherever or whenever they appear, huh.”
Luke had a distant look on his face.
“Yeah, yeah, as expected of a demon king.”
“Ryuushin, Sitri isn’t a demon king anymore, okay?”
“Nah, that’s not it, I was talking about you, Halt.”
“Eh”
“By the way, it’s really super cool when you fire this, right, Haru-Nii?”
This magic cannon had already undergone actual testing.
The Ernol family already wiped out most of the high-ranking demons, so Halt’s team only tested it on mid-rank demons. Regardless, its power and accuracy was already proven, and all that’s left is to install it on the top floor of the clan house.”
“Let’s fire the magic cannon once the clan house is ready, since it’ll be a good opportunity for its; debut. Akari’s right, it’s super cool so everyone, look forward to it, okay!”
By the way, it would be far more efficient and faster for Halt to teleport and personally deal with any demons detected by the magic cannon. Even so, it’s because of Halt’s adventurous spirit that he opted to install it in the clan house.
“A clan house that can turn into a weapon is the best!”
The strongest sage’s glittering eyes were the brightest they had been in a while.
