I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 702 Going Deeper

Chapter 702 Going Deeper

On the other world, the rain were also started to falling.

The rain continued to fall, streaking against the towering skyscrapers outside, the neon lights reflecting off the wet surfaces.

From inside the storage room, Saeldir, Aerchon, Arlyn, Sylra, and Vael could only see glimpses of the downpour through the reinforced glass window. It was distant and almost unreal as they stood amidst towering stacks of metal crates which each sealed tight with mechanisms they didn't recognize.

The room was huge and stretching into the shadows with no clear end in sight. The vibration and hum of strange machinery that happened outside resonated through the walls. Every now and then, red indicator lights flickered on some of the crates. They whispered among themselves about what these boxes might contain. It could contain supplies for Laston's forces, experimental technology, or perhaps even weapons too advanced for them to understand.

Arlyn even giving the idea about sabotaging some of it to hinder Laston's plan. But Saeldir said that there's not much time for that now.

"This place is massive," Arlyn murmured, eyes scanning the unfamiliar symbols etched onto some of the crates. "Whatever Laston is planning he has the resources to make it happen. How did he managed to do this?"

Saeldir adjusted his Magic again. His invisibility spell still holding strong to ensure they remained undetectable by both mechanical and Magical surveillance.

"Don't think about it now. We can't linger," he said. "We move forward."

They weaved their way through the maze of containers, careful not to make a sound. The air in the storage room felt heavy. Whether it was the oppressive energy of Laston's experimental machine of warr, or the sheer scale of the facility, they couldn't be sure.

Finally, they reached a heavy metal door at the far end of the chamber. Vael pressed his ear against it and listening for movement beyond. The other side was silent. He glanced at the others and gave a nod.

Aerchon took the lead, his fingers tracing over the door's control panel before swiftly disabling its locking mechanism. With a soft hiss the door slid open revealing a long corridor lightened in white light.

The walls were sleek metal, lined with panels displaying something they couldn't understand.

They stepped out cautiously and glancing down both ends of the hallway. No guards in sight and no alarms triggered. Just the distant hum of the building's systems running in the background.

"This is too quiet," Sylra muttered.

Saeldir's grip tightened. "We need to move before that changes."

With careful steps, they advanced down the corridor, deeper into the heart of Skyreach Tower.

As they moved deeper into the corridor, the steady hum of machinery surrounded them. The white light overhead flickered slightly. They moved together with careful and silent stepts. Their senses heightened by the sheer strangeness of this place.

Then, from the far end of the hallway, a group of guards emerged.

The armored figures marched in a disciplined formation. Their weapons rested in their hands, and the eerie glow of cybernetic enhancements pulsed beneath the surface of their armor. Their faces were hidden beneath helmets with glowing visors.

Saeldir and the others instinctively pressed themselves closer to the wall, holding their breath as the guards drew near. Though they were still invisible, any noise or misstep could spell disaster for them.

"Stay normal," Aerchon whispered. "They can't see us, but don't get in their way."

They remained perfectly still as the guards passed, feeling the rush of tension coil within them.

Even when they can't be seen, the presence of the enemy so close made their hearts pound. Vael's fingers twitched, ready to summon a spell if needed, but no alarm came from the guards.

The moment stretched into eternity and then the guards were gone.

Sylra exhaled softly, glancing over her shoulder to make sure none had lingered. The others exchanged brief glances but wasted no time. They pressed on.

With no map and no sense of direction except their instinct, their journey through Skyreach Tower felt like wandering a labyrinth. The smooth metal corridors twisted unpredictably. Some splitting into side passages with no clear indication of where they led. The glowing panels on the walls pulsed with streams of unreadable moving picture of some kind, but none of it helped them navigating this place.

Sylra took the lead ahead, her sharp tracker eyes scanning every detail. She was a tracker by nature and her instincts honed through years of hunting in the forests of their homeland.

Though this was a far cry from the natural world of woods, she still relied on those same instincts. Every corridor carried traces of movement, subtle disturbances in the air, faint impressions left by those who had passed before.

She placed a hand on the cold metal wall then closing her eyes for a brief moment, feeling the vibration of energy running through the tower.

"That way," she finally murmured, pointing toward a door ahead.

They moved toward it with worry feeling of of any traps or security measures that will endanger them.

Aerchon examined the locking mechanism, his fingers moving over the panel, searching for a way to disable it through his Magic. Unlike the previous door, this one seemed more complex so he will require more than just a simple override.

Sylra frowned, glancing behind them. Something felt off.

The air shifted, almost imperceptibly, but she caught it. A presence.

Somewhere in the tower, something or someone was aware of them.

"I feel that there's something watching us," she said.

The others turned to her, their faces immediately hardening. Arlyn's brows furrowed, and his fingers instinctively twitched toward his weapon, though he knew he wouldn't be able to use it now.

"Then why aren't they sounding the alarm?" Arlyn asked.

"I don't know," Sylra admitted. "It could be nothing. Just a feeling." But deep down, she doubted that.

Saeldir considered her words carefully. If Sylra was right, then whoever had noticed them choose to not reacting with force for now. Which meant only one thing.

"They could be waiting for us," Saeldir murmured.

The thought sent a chill through the group. An unseen presence, aware of them yet choosing to remain silent.

"We keep going," Saeldir said finally. There was no point in hesitation now. He turned to Aerchon and gave him a nod.

Aerchon nodded back, his focus returning to the door's control panel. His fingers moved channeling his Magic into the mechanisms, searching for the correct sequence to disable the lock. The complexity of the system slowed him down but after a few tense moments, a quiet beep signaled success.

The door slid open with a soft hiss.
