Chapter 450: [358] Who’s in charge here, what I say goes! (4K seeking monthly pass and recommendations)_1

Having transformed into a high-ranking member of the Investigation Team, Pei Jinye didn’t feel out of place at all.

His life remained the same, with a routine as the straight path between three points.

The only difference was he no longer had to clock in every day for work, which gave him a lot more freedom.

This was something that Zhou Ye and Brother Bi envied greatly.

That evening, the three of them gathered together to celebrate Pei Jinye’s promotion.

“I always said Old Pei was a real dragon among men, congratulations…” Zhou Ye shamelessly lifted his cup of water, toasting with water instead of wine.

Brother Bi couldn’t bear to look.

While the three were talking and laughing, suddenly a commotion came from downstairs outside the window, growing louder and louder.

Brother Bi, who was sitting near the window, reached out to open it and took a look outside, then suddenly froze: “Holy shit, aren’t those our guys from the Investigation Team?”

Zhou Ye quickly got up to take a look, “Old Pei, that looks like your friend.”

It was only then that Pei Jinye saw Gu Wutong at the corner of the street, hands over his head doing frog jumps.

“Chaotically.”

Pei Jinye braced himself on the window and leaped straight out from the second floor.

Gu Wutong had just stood up when he saw Pei Jinye descending from the sky, and his expression froze in surprise: “Old Pei?”

Pei Jinye scanned the alleyway, pulled him aside where there was no one around, and asked in a low voice, “What’s going on with you?”

In the morning, he had been full of vigor when he left, so how had he ended up like this by evening?

“It’s a long story…” Gu Wutong shook his head without saying much, only asking, “Did you bring any gear?”

Pei Jinye raised an eyebrow and replied curtly, “Who’re we taking down?”

Just then, Brother Bi and Zhou Ye also came looking.

Seeing that they were both present, Gu Wutong felt more confident.

“I’m taking down Old Qin Three on Shunhe Road,” Gu Wutong said with a dark expression.

Brother Bi and Zhou Ye looked at each other. Zhou Ye asked in a low voice, “The Qin family runs pretty much everything on Shunhe Road, can we at least ask what happened?”

Gu Wutong summarized the incident succinctly; after a long wait, he finally caught the opponent making a trade, catching them with both the person and the goods.

He had intended just to warn them, but Old Qin Three’s men were arrogant, and a fight broke out; he was no match for them on his own.

He had no choice but to “obediently” do frog jumps and leave.

“Has Old Qin Three lost his mind?” Brother Bi frowned.

Zhou Ye looked towards Pei Jinye, who simply said, “No need for all this talk, let’s do him in.”

“Count me in,” Zhou Ye offered, raising his hand.

Seeing this, Brother Bi bowed his head and said, “I’ve got equipment in the car, wait for me to get it.”

Gu Wutong did not object.

Brother Bi went back to retrieve guns from the car.

Pei Jinye and Gu Wutong went unarmed, though after a moment’s thought, Gu Wutong decided to put on a bulletproof vest.

The four of them thus set off into the night, heading back through the alleys to find the playground.

On the second floor of a storefront on Shunhe Road.

A man with a scarred face, wearing a military overcoat and sitting in an antique wooden chair, was none other than Old Qin Three, mentioned by Gu Wutong.

At the moment, he frowned at several strong young men nearby who had been injured, not scolding them for their carelessness, but simply waved his hand and said, “Arrange for the brothers to move the goods in the warehouse, move them as soon as possible, and wait for the time being.”

“Move? Brother Three, isn’t that an overreaction? That kid who didn’t know better just came looking for trouble, and haven’t we already driven him away? Should we be afraid of him? Besides, the price of the stuff outside has tripled at least, and the whole Shunhe Road area is counting on us. If we cut supply now…”

The younger man across from him didn’t quite understand.

“Just do what I tell you, and don’t give me lip,” Old Qin Three’s fingers traced the rim of his teacup.

He had a bad feeling in his gut.

The young man, seeing this, stopped arguing and could only reluctantly go out to tell the brothers to move the goods.

“Oh, and Dou Zi, have the brothers carry something to defend themselves with for the time being,” Old Qin Three called out after him.

“Got it, Brother Three.”

Dou Zi pushed the door open and went downstairs, signaling to a bunch of brothers to start moving goods.

Just then.

“Bang bang!”

Suddenly, a few muffled shots rang out at the doorway.

Dou Zi, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, turned to look just as Gu Wutong, clad in a bulletproof vest, strode forward.

“You!” Dou Zi was startled.

“What ‘you’?”

“Bang!”

Gu Wutong cursed, lifted his foot, and kicked straight into Dou Zi’s chest.

Several men from inside the room immediately rushed out, menacing and ferocious-looking thugs of Old Qin Three.

“Don’t move!”

“Everybody freeze!”

Brother Bi and Zhou Ye hurriedly raised their weapons, chambered a round and shouted loudly.

Meanwhile, Dou Zi had already been slammed hard against the cupboard behind him, shattering the patterned glass with a crisp sound.

Old Qin Three had not expected Gu Wutong to dare come back.

What he was even less prepared for was that the opponent would turn up with just four men, boldly trashing Brother Three’s place.

But by then, he was already confounded.

Before he could speak,

suddenly, he saw a slim figure in a black trench coat come in through the door, and pull down the rolling shutter at the entrance.

“First capture the king, where is he?”

Gu Wutong immediately led the way.

Inside a second-floor office.

Old Qin Three’s desk phone rang, he reached for it, and a terrified shriek came through, “Brother Three, it’s bad, they’re storming—snap!”

The call was cut off.

Old Qin Three’s complexion changed slightly, and he yanked open a drawer, reaching to grab a gun.

The door was suddenly breached from the outside at that moment.

Old Qin Three’s first sight wasn’t Gu Wutong, but the man standing behind Gu Wutong.

Upon making eye contact, he immediately sensed trouble.

He rushed for the gun.

“Snap.”

A pill shot swiftly like lightning hit his arm; he didn’t reach his gun, instead, Old Qin Three emitted a scream as a surge of force hit him, tumbling him out of his chair.
