Chapter 265: Story 265: Escape from the Stronghold

Damien and Mira emerged from the depths of the Zombie King’s lair, clutching the precious antidote, knowing it could change everything. But they had little time to revel in their victory; their presence hadn’t gone unnoticed, and the sounds of footsteps echoed from the passages behind them. Reinforcements were on their tail, drawn by the unmistakable sound of the battle with the elite guard.

"This way!" Mira whispered, pointing toward a narrow, half-hidden side passage. The tunnel was lined with ancient roots that snaked down from the stone above, adding an eerie atmosphere to their frantic escape. They darted down the passage, hoping it would lead them out before they were overwhelmed.

As they ran, Damien stole a glance at Mira. "Do you think this antidote could really stop him?"

Mira’s grip tightened around the vial. "If Dr. Alden is right, it could weaken his hold over the undead. But we still have to find the source of his power—and that’s a riskier fight."

Suddenly, the passage opened into a cavern filled with what looked like an underground lake. The water was black as night, and an odd, toxic fog hovered just above its surface. On the other side of the lake, faint daylight shimmered through a narrow opening—their way out.

Before they could cross, a low growl reverberated around them. Emerging from the shadows, a monstrous creature with decayed scales and gnarled claws crept toward them, its eyes glowing with malice. Damien realized this was no ordinary zombie; it was an enhanced guardian of the stronghold, tasked with keeping anyone from leaving.

"Mira, get ready," Damien said, unsheathing his sword. The guardian lunged, claws slashing through the air with terrifying speed. Damien barely dodged the first strike, rolling to the side as the creature’s claws scraped against the stone floor, sending sparks flying.

Mira channeled a burst of light, her amulet glowing brightly as she aimed it toward the creature’s face, temporarily blinding it. Damien seized the opportunity, charging forward with a fierce attack. His blade slashed through the creature’s scales, but its thick hide absorbed most of the impact, and it roared, retaliating with a powerful swipe that knocked him backward.

Determined, Mira darted around the creature, finding a vulnerable spot near its back. With her last ounce of strength, she struck the spot with a focused beam of light, searing through the undead scales. The creature let out a shriek, collapsing as Damien delivered a final blow to its exposed neck.

They didn’t waste a moment. Racing across the narrow path beside the lake, they reached the exit, bursting out into the light of day. The fresh air filled their lungs as they emerged from the oppressive darkness of the stronghold.

"Let’s get this antidote to the nearest safe zone," Damien said, glancing at Mira. "We’re one step closer to taking him down." Experience tales with NovelBin.Côm

Mira nodded, exhaustion mingling with determination. They had escaped, but the real battle still lay ahead. With the antidote, they finally had a chance against the Zombie King’s dark reign.
