Chapter 459 Zombie Challenge Event ( 2 )
Chapter 459 Zombie Challenge Event ( 2 )
The Spitter Zombies only needed about 2 or 3 seconds before they could spit out a blob of acid…
It was quite fast.
Considering their distance, Shane's dagger wasn't fast enough to kill them before they could throw their acid spit.
After all, the Zombie's spawn area was random. Shane could only tell that their spawning area would always be about 40 meters away from him.
[ Level 11 cleared. Preparing Level 12 ] .
Shane exhaled slowly as he retrieved his daggers once again. Shane then waved his hands a few times as the acid residue still lingered in the air. It was pungent, so he had decided to move away.
Anyway, now that the Zombie-Type was revealed, Shane believed that he would be facing Spitter Zombies in the next few levels.
Because of that, he prepared most of his Safety Tokens since he knew that the corrosion of these Spitter Zombie's acids should not be underestimated at all.
Anyway, Shane fought against 6 Spitter Zombies in the 12th level. This time, Shane used his Energy Wave to knock them off balance before they could use their Acid Spit. However, only 3 of them had failed to spit, and the other three were able to release their attacks.
Nonetheless, because they were clustered together, it was a lot easier to target them with his daggers and knives.
At the next level, Shane had to fight against 9 Spitters.
Their synchronized acid spits forced Shane to rely on Safety Tokens more to create temporary barriers while he eliminated them with his throwing knives and daggers controlled by his Telekinesis…
'I wonder how the others are faring right now.' Shane muttered as he hoped that they haven't used up their Tokens, Talismans, and ammunitions just yet.
He really wanted all his members to reach Level 30 at the very least.
Anyway, he didn't have much time to think as the battle continued.
He fought an increasing number of Spitter Zombie and succeeded without much trouble. He was only forced to change his Silver Knights since they were all corroded already.
Furthermore, he spent a total of 8 Safety Tokens because the explosions of the Spitter Zombies were just too much.
By Level 18, Shane faced 21 Spitter Zombies at once.
The arena felt like a war zone, with acid raining down in persistent volleys.
Shane alternated between Arcane Veil for personal defense and Veiled Steps to close gaps quickly or to evade the Acid Explosions.
With these two abilities together with his Telekinesis talent, he was able to eliminated zombies either in long range or close range.
As Level 19 began, Shane took a deep breath.
[ Level 19 initiated. Opponents: 25 Spitter Zombies. ]
'That's a lot…' Shane thought to himself as he looked at the Spitters. Well, the only saving grace was the fact that these Zombies have terrible movement speed.
Their acid spit may be fast, but because of that, the acid itself wasn't too strong. If they want to spit out a huge blob of acid, they would take almost 10 seconds to do that.
'This is a bit tricky, but still doable even without using my expensive skills.' Shane thought to himself, referring to his other Fused Skills that eat up a lot of Spirit Points.
Shane immediately started moving after seeing the 25 fat figures appear… They spread out in a semi-circle around him, and there was no way he would stay in his spot and get targeted so easily.
The moment he reappeared after using his Veiled Steps, their mouths opened wide, and the arena was filled with the sound of gurgling acid.
"This is insane." Shane muttered after seeing the chilling scene of multiple acid blobs being thrown at him…
Whoosh~ Whoosh~ Whoosh~

The first wave of acid spits shot toward him.
Again, because they cast the acid spit so quickly, the projectiles were small and a lot easier to dodge with Shane's agility.
Nonetheless, for safety, Shane still activated his three Safety Tokens simultaneously, creating a larger defensive barrier to shield himself from the first volley.
The acidic projectiles splattered harmlessly against the glowing shield, but the sound of sizzling echoed ominously… Shane knew that his barrier wouldn't last forever.
The zombies didn't stop.
They spat in overlapping patterns that made dodging nearly impossible.
Shane's Telekinesis worked overtime, guiding his daggers to strike multiple targets simultaneously.
However, because of the Zombies' acid or corrosion, his daggers seemed to have lost their sharpness already…
'Those daggers have been upgraded to Epic Grade, but they actually didn't last long.' Shane mused.
He had no other choice but to use his other daggers, which were his Crawler Fang Daggers, which were upgraded to Epic Rank as well. He had dozens of these in his Inventory, so he decided to just replace his current ones.
He wasn't too worried even if they got corroded.
"Kill!"
Shane's killing spree started once again after replacing his daggers.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
As the zombies exploded upon death, Shane had to time his movements carefully. He used Shadow Hunt to move away swiftly to safer spots while continuing to eliminate his enemies.
The battle against such hard Zombies could truly stretch Shane's resources to their limits.
To be honest, it was a lot easier to kill Crawler Leader, Runner Leader, or other low-tier Leader Zombies than these Spitter Zombies because of their corrosion.
Anyway, Shane could only complain in his mind and continue on his battle.
His Crawler Fang Daggers continued to dash through the air, piercing through the Spitter Zombies who were about to send their acid projectiles.
He relied heavily on Predator's Surge to avoid being overwhelmed, darting between the acid splashes and explosions.
His Energy Wave also provided much-needed breathing room, knocking back groups of zombies to prevent them from closing in.
Well, the Energy Wave wasn't that strong if used independently after all… Nonetheless, it was strong enough to wobble or even push back these Spitter Zombies and momentarily disrupt their actions.
By the time the final Zombie fell, the arena was a battlefield of scorched earth and acidic puddles.
[ Level 19 cleared. Preparing Level 20. ]
Shane stood at the center, feeling a bit relieved that the next level would finally be the last, and the one following that should be another type of Zombie already.
As the preparation or 30-second break was coming up, Shane confirmed that the arena started slowly repairing itself. At this time, Shane decided to consume an Energy Drink to replenish his stamina and focus.
'I wonder how many Chief Spitter Zombies will appear this time… Ahh—No, there's also that variant type called Spitter Monster Zombie… They could be the ones appearing instead.' Shane thought as he recalled the Zombies he had eliminated before.
Anyway, it didn't take long before the system message appeared.
[ Level 20 initiated. Opponents: 5 Chief Spitter Zombies. ]
Shane's eyes narrowed as five massive figures materialized at the opposite end of the arena.
These were no ordinary Spitter Zombies. Each Chief Spitter stood at least seven feet tall, their whole bodies were also pulsing with acidic energy.
He believed that just by standing within 10 meters of them would already cause some damage over time.
Furthermore, instead of green, they had darker, mottled skin that glistened with a greenish acid leaking through some holes or probably air vents within their bodies.
Lastly, their mouths were unnaturally wide, dripping with a more concentrated acid that hissed as it touched the ground.
'These Zombies are the real deal…' Shane muttered as he knew that he had to take this more seriously.
Anyway, aside from their huge appearance, what set them apart was the faint glow emanating from their eyes, a sign of intelligence that could only be found in Leader Type or stronger Zombies.
Shane had fought against them before and knew very well that their Acid spit would not only corrode barriers but also release a noxious gas upon impact, creating a deadly zone of lingering toxicity.
"Fantastic. This is going to be a nightmare," Shane muttered, summoning his Metal Slime pet with a wave of his hand.
Well, his barrier might still be effective against them but if he wanted to be able to move more swiftly and eliminate these Chief Spitters, he had to rely on Silver, his Metal Slime!
Then, after some thought, Shane drew his Legendary Light Flameblade, the sword that was originally made of Phoenix Copper until it got upgraded to Legendary and somehow mutated.
As soon as he released the sword, the weapon pulsed in his hand, and orange flames flowed along its edge as if eager for the fight.
"Alright, buddy," Shane said to Silver as he patted the blob of liquid metal on his shoulder… Then, wobbled in response.
"You're on defense. Block those acid spits and keep me clear."
The Metal Slime bobbed in agreement as it started to cover Shane's body with a metallic sheen. After eating a lot of Zombie Cores and also absorbing the Evolution Stone, Silver had already gone through so many changes and became extremely reliable.
Since Shane had spent a lot of time developing this pet, it was now the time to use his investment.
