Chapter 1877 - A Misunderstanding!

“Your wine gourd, sir!” The waiter brought over Su Yi’s green-skinned gourd. “That will be ninety-one thousand top-grade immortal jades, plus three thousand for your meal.”

Su Yi took out a bag of holding and passed it to the waiter. “The change is your tip.”

“Thank you so much, sir.” The waiter said with a smile, but when he opened the bag, he was completely dumbstruck. His heart pounded in his chest.

One hundred thousand top-grade immortal jades!

Didn’t that mean he was to receive a tip of six thousand top-grade immortal jades after subtracting the cost of the food and wine?

Fuck! With money like that, I can visit Heavenly Fragrances Brothel ten times over! I’ve got to choose their star performer! Last time I went, the manager laughed and said I wasn’t even worthy of spending the night with her serving girl, but this time... Huh? Where’d that guy go?

The waiter looked around, but the young man in blue was nowhere to be found. It was as if he’d been a dream or illusion this entire time. But the waiter’s generous tip was as real as could be, confirming that this was certainly no dream!

......

At dusk, the sun blazed like fire. The sound of crashing waves emanated from the distant Eastern Sea.

A young woman dashed through the bustling city streets. She was dressed in a pale pink skirt and apricot yellow shirt, and her eyes shone like twin moons beneath her distant mountain eyebrows. She was a lively young beauty.

Despite the distance, Su Yi’s divine sense was powerful enough that he recognized her instantly. This was Tang Bao’er, the daughter of the head of the Tang Family!

He vividly recalled their first meeting outside the ruins of the Academy of Eternal Night. She was lively and vivacious, and she even took to calling him “handsome.”

Su Yi met her again before the Divine Hunt when he visited the Tang Family.

“What’s that girl doing in Evening Fog City of all places?”

Su Yi was quite surprised. The Middle Province and Evening Fog City were extremely far apart; there were a full sixteen provinces between them.

That aside, Su Yi sensed something strange about Tang Bao’er’s movements. It seemed she was avoiding something—or someone. As she dashed through the streets, she frequently took detours as if to shake someone off.

Su Yi instantly expanded his divine sense.

One hundred thousand feet.

Three hundred thousand feet.

Eight hundred thousand feet.

...Su Yi had covered almost half the city by the time he discovered something out of the ordinary.

A gaunt old man with sparse hair and plain robes sat in a roadside teahouse, a black bird perched on his shoulder.

The old man had withdrawn his aura, and he looked like just another passerby, but Su Yi could tell that he was actually a mid-stage Immortal King!

Here in Evening Fog City, that made him a top-notch expert. After all, when Great Realm experts were out of the picture, Immortal Kings reigned supreme.

But experts of his level had long since been beneath Su Yi’s notice. What really drew his attention was the bird on his shoulder.

A Skyshadow Profound Sparrow, huh? It seems someone really is targeting Tang Bao’er. She won’t be able to shake him off, no matter where she hides herself.

Skyshadow Profound Spares were a rare variety of spirit bird. When they targeted someone, they could chase them to the ends of creation. There was no shaking them off.

This piqued Su Yi’s curiosity. What on earth did Tang Bao’er do to provoke an Immortal King into taking personal action against her? He even brought a rare spirit bird like the Skyshadow Divine Sparrow!

Su Yi didn’t want to alarm the old man, so he just strolled through the city streets, drawing closer and closer to Tang Bao’er.

Shortly after, a woman appeared out of nowhere and stopped her.

“Come with me.”

The woman took Tang Bao’er’s hand and turned to lead her away.

The woman’s long hair was tied up, revealing her long, slender neck and goose egg-shaped face. She had the cold, aloof disposition of an orchid growing in a secluded valley and a unique, distinctive charm.

Su Yi recognized her immediately. This was Tang Yuyan!

She was an unparalleled Immortal Lady of the ancient Tang Family, and they’d arranged for her to accompany him during the last Divine Hunt.

Strange. What are they doing here? As Su Yi pondered, he didn’t rush to greet them. Instead, he stayed hidden and kept following them.

Before long, Tang Yuyan led Tang Bao’er outside of the city. It seemed they wanted to leave.

Su Yi’s divine sense instantly detected the old man in the teahouse shattering a secret talisman.

A group of experts suddenly appeared around the city gates, ready to intercept the two women.

They were waiting for their prey to fall into their lap!

“Those guys again! They really won’t leave us alone!” When Tang Yuyan saw this, she abruptly stopped in her tracks, and her brow furrowed. Her beautiful face was utterly cold.

“Little Aunt, just who are those guys? Why do they keep following us?” Tang Bao’er couldn’t help but ask.

“If it’s as I suspect, they’re the Church of the Pure One’s lackeys,” Tang Yuyan said icily. “As for why they’re following us... I suspect they’ve guessed what we’ve come to Evening Fog City to do.”

Tang Bao’er exclaimed, “Then should we request aid from the clan?”

“We can’t,” said Tang Yuyan, shaking her head. “Enormous problems have arisen within the Tang Family. We... shouldn’t expect anyone to come to our aid.”

As she spoke, she let out a soft sigh, her face fraught with worry.

“Little Aunt, if they’re targeting us, why haven’t they attacked us yet?” Tang Bao’er asked in confusion.

After a moment’s silence, Tang Yuyan said, “Perhaps they just want to trap us within city limits.”

She and Tang Bao’er had stayed in Evening Fog City for the past month. From time to time, they visited the Precious Gem Workshop for information. But three days prior, when they tried to leave the city, they discovered that people were tailing them in secret!

Strangely, so long as they refrained from leaving city limits, the people tailing them quietly disappeared.

Tang Yuyan had made numerous attempts to leave, but each ended the same way. She even set off alone under the cover of darkness, only for a group of experts to intercept her.

It was then that Tang Yuyan realized that someone was trying to keep them in Evening Fog City. She and Tang Bao’er weren’t permitted to leave!

“Then what should we do?” asked Tang Bao’er.

After a moment’s silence, Tang Yuyan said, “Bao’er, I suspect something has gone terribly wrong back home. We cannot wait any longer!”

She gazed intently at Tang Bao’er. “I’m going to take you with me and fight my way out.”

Tang Bao’er nodded. “Okay!”

“You aren’t afraid?”

“I’m not afraid!”

Tang Yuyan smiled and tousled Tang Bao’er’s hair. “Rest assured: I’ll make sure you escape alive. I’ll do whatever it takes to get you out of here and back to the clan.”

Her gaze was calm and determined as she and Tang Bao’er set off and headed for the city gates.

An imposing group of experts was stationed throughout the surrounding area. When they saw Tang Yuyan and Tang Bao’er approach, their leader, a middle-aged man in yellow robes, blocked their path and frowned. “I’ll have to ask the two of you to stop here.”

Tang Yuyan’s eyes flashed like lightning. She said icily, “No matter who you are, and no matter who you work for, you’d best step aside!”

The middle-aged man in yellow laughed. “I urge you to heed my advice. Go back. Stay in Evening Fog City, and you’ll have no need to fear anything... unexpected happening to you. If you insist on leaving, I’m afraid... you’ll be in for a rough night.”

His gaze was playful. He didn’t seem at all afraid of the threat Tang Yuyan, an unparalleled Immortal Lady, represented.

Clang!

A sword appeared in Tang Yuyan’s grip. “Will you step aside or not?”

The middle-aged man’s smile disappeared, and an imposing aura silently appeared around his tall, imposing figure. His gaze was instantly cold and sinister.

He raised his hand into the air, then casually pressed down. The terrifying pressure of an Immortal King silently swept outward, ruthlessly suppressing Tang Yuyan and Bao’er. It even suppressed Tang Yuyan’s sword.

Tang Yuyan looked stricken. “An Immortal King!?”

She couldn’t believe it. She couldn’t even imagine it. Why was someone like this targeting her and Tang Bao’er?

Tang Bao’er was visibly overcome with nervousness too. An Immortal King!

Against someone like that, her attempts at resistance would be like an ant trying to shake a tree. Her heart filled with despair.

When the yellow-robed middle-aged man took in the bleak looks on their faces, he couldn’t help but smile. “This is your last chance. Follow me back obediently, or else...”

“Or else what?” A calm voice rang out.

Tang Yuyan and Tang Bao’er froze, stunned, then looked over and saw that a familiar figure had appeared seemingly out of nowhere. He was handsome and dressed in blue, with the air of one who’d risen out of the dust of mundanity.

None other than Su Yi!

Both women lit up with delight, and all of their dejection and despair gave way to excitement.

The middle-aged man in yellow saw Su Yi too. His pupils constricted, and his expression shifted dramatically.

He took a deep breath, then subtly lowered his hand and said with a smile. “Nothing at all. This was all just one big misunderstanding. I shan’t disturb you any longer. Farewell!”

He turned and was about to leave when Su Yi seized him by the throat and held him aloft like a chicken, preventing him from moving. His face reddened.

“If this was a misunderstanding, then shouldn’t you explain what exactly you misunderstood?” Su Yi said slowly.

As he spoke, he stretched out his left hand and tapped the air.

The yellow-robed middle-aged man had subordinates throughout the surrounding area, but now, all of them split into pieces and disintegrated before they even knew what hit them. There was no blood, nor the slightest disturbance; they didn’t even have time to scream.

Over a dozen immortals were dead, just like that!

This strange, terrifying scene startled some of the passersby, leaving them wide-eyed and tongue-tied. They almost thought their eyes were playing tricks on them. How could a dozen or so people just disintegrate into ash out of nowhere!?

Tang Yuyan and Tang Bao’er’s eyes widened. Astonishment was written all over their faces.

Su Yi hadn’t just captured an Immortal King in a single gesture. He’d even silently destroyed more than a dozen immortals!

The middle-aged man in yellow broke out in cold sweats. His face paled, and he said in a quavering voice, "Your Excellency, I...”

“Hush-hush now.” Su Yi raised his finger to his lips. “It won’t be too late to explain after I’ve captured the old-timer.”

Meanwhile, somewhere in a teahouse, the old man with the Skyshadow Profound Sparrow on his shoulder looked stricken. The hand holding his teacup shook so badly that he drenched the lapels of his clothing.
