Chapter 152 Sword N' Dagger Combo

Chapter 152 Sword N' Dagger Combo

Gedion and Kael stood back to back, weapons at the ready, sweat glistening on their brows. Gedion voiced his concerns with a sense of desperation, "At this point, what exactly is the goal of this battle? If we somehow get rid of all the roots, what then?"

Kael, also panting heavily, replied with uncertainty in his voice, "I don't really know. We're just following our liege's orders, keeping the roots at bay while he comes up with a plan." The weight of their situation hung heavily in the air as they continued to fend off the relentless roots.

In the midst of the chaos, a colossal root descended with alarming speed, forcing Gedion and Kael to part ways suddenly. They propelled themselves with astonishing speed, just narrowly avoiding the root's wrath. As the colossal root landed on the ground where they had stood mere moments ago, it created a massive crater, the earth shattering beneath its crushing impact.

The ground quaked and rumbled, adding to the chaos of their battle against the relentless tree.

Gedion found himself in a perilous dance with the relentless vines. Suddenly, a vine burst forth from the earth on his right, prompting him to dodge to the left, only for another to erupt on his left, forcing him to leap to the right. Before he could regain his balance, yet another vine shot up on his right, making him leap to the left once more.

The intricate, deadly ballet continued as another vine came in a sweeping motion. With lightning reflexes, Gedion leaned back, narrowly avoiding the vine as it sailed overhead, his heart pounding with each evasion. The battle against the relentless tree was a test of agility and precision.

The relentless barrage of root attacks wore Gedion down, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He muttered inwardly, "Damm it, these things are all over the place. There are just too many to keep avoiding and countering. I'm getting tired."

But there was no respite. Another root shot forward at him with astonishing speed. Gedion swiftly positioned his twin short swords, their blades gleaming in the dim light of the battle. With a swift, practiced motion, he swung the swords, their sharp edges cutting through the root like a hot knife through butter, reducing it to pieces that fell harmlessly to the ground.

The battle had taken its toll, but Gedion was ready to press on.

On Kael's side of the battlefield, chaos reigned as he leaped over a menacing vine that aimed to impale him. His movements were swift and precise as he expertly cut a vine that blocked his path. Another vine lunged from behind, and Kael managed to evade it by leaning forward, narrowly escaping its reach.

Suddenly, massive roots erupted from the ground, their sheer size threatening to crush him. Without hesitation, Kael's acrobatic instincts kicked in. He initiated a series of graceful backflips, his body moving like that of a seasoned warrior.

Each nimble flip allowed him to evade the colossal roots, narrowly escaping their crushing force as he maintained his agility in the midst of the chaotic battle.

Amid the relentless battle, Kael's voice rang out, cutting through the chaos as he yelled to Gedion. The exhaustion in his tone was evident.

"Hay, Gedion," Kael shouted, "don't you think this battle is getting a little too much? We've been at this for hours, and the roots just keep getting bigger, faster, and smarter. Most of the buildings in this area have been completely destroyed."

Gedion, engaged in a frenetic battle, parried the relentless strikes of the roots. Their metallic covering made them even more formidable. Despite the grueling nature of the fight, he responded to Kael's concerns.

"I know that," Gedion replied, his voice strained from the continuous combat, "but it's not like we can retreat, not when we haven't saved Oliver." With a burst of energy, Gedion propelled himself backward, leaving behind a deep crater in the ground.

On Kael's side, he mirrored the maneuver, and they found themselves standing back to back once more, encircled by the relentless roots, both of them gasping for breath.

Kael and Gedion stood close to each other, their determination unwavering. Gedion's voice carried urgency as he spoke, "Kael, we should use that killer move we've been practicing together."

A smile crossed Kael's face as he responded, "Thought you'd never ask." Suddenly, wind began swirling around them, creating a vortex of power. They initiated their special technique, leaping into the air and defying gravity. It seemed as if they were jumping off the very air itself.

In a synchronized display of wind blade slashes and acrobatics, they slashed through the roots with their weapons, reducing them to mere dust. Their movements were so swift that the roots near them disintegrated in an instant, leaving behind deep gashes in the ground. The very wind that surrounded them had transformed into a powerful weapon in their battle against the relentless roots.

Amid the chaos of battle, Gedion and Kael were jolted by the unexpected sounds of frantic running. "What's that?" Kael's gaze darted toward the source of the commotion.

Gedion also detected a different set of hurried footsteps in the opposite direction, and then they both witnessed the startling sight. Finn and Ember were sprinting desperately, pursued by relentless roots. On Finn's side, the roots gleamed with a metallic sheen, appearing impervious and unyielding, while the ones chasing Ember were smaller, with a reddish hue.

Kael's disbelief echoed in his voice as he questioned, "The hell? Are they running?" The two pairs of warriors, locked in their own battles, couldn't fathom the reason behind their friends' flight from the relentless roots.

Gedion's voice trembled as he spoke, "Guess the roots finally became too strong for them, just like we..." His words trailed off abruptly as he coughed up blood and collapsed to his knees.

Alarmed, Kael witnessed his comrade's sudden distress and uttered, "Hey, what's wrong?"

Gedion, now with a red flower blooming above his right eye, struggled to respond. He mumbled through the pain, "Damm it, I don't feel so good." The sinister effects of the battle and the mysterious red mist that lingered in the air were taking their toll.
