Chapter 161 I Can Change Him
Chapter 161 I Can Change Him
He glanced around the three witches, realizing he was vastly outnumbered and that any wrong move could make things worse. There was an awkward silence, each person waiting for him to respond. He could feel the weight of their gazes on him, making it abundantly clear that he was expected to say or do something.
Taking a deep breath, he faced Vidalia, hoping to appeal to her sense of reason.
"Vidalia. While I deeply regret any discomfort I may have caused, I think it's important we handle this with a clear mind. Marriage is not something to be entered lightly, and I'm certain that given time, you'll see this for what it truly was—an innocent mistake."
He said those words without a shred of sincerity. All he wanted was for the whole affair to end so they could invade the village and beat Cassandra.
Her eyes softened for a moment, her resolve wavering as she looked at him, almost as if searching for sincerity in his words. But then she hardened her stance, crossing her arms.
"Then prove it by courting me properly. If your intentions are pure, you'll show me the respect I deserve."
Alicarde almost choked. "Courting?!"
She nodded solemnly.
"Yes. If you truly regret your actions, then court me with the honor and respect due to a lady." Find your next read on empire
'Okay… Imma kill this bitch'
Malefica watched the exchange with a hint of amusement, her eyes glinting mischievously as she stepped in.
"Well, Al… errh Reaper, it seems a solution has presented itself. It would be wise to take the lady up on her proposal if you wish to settle this peacefully."
He noticed how she almost said his name but corrected herself.
Alicarde took a shaky breath, glancing from Vidalia to Malefica. He was trapped, cornered, but perhaps this would buy him some time to figure a way out of this predicament without further upsetting the witches.
'Malefica…this… damn she's enjoying my suffering'
He felt like the main character in one of those modern soap operas, where the unsuspecting guy stumbles into a village, accidentally sees a girl bathing in the river, and, by some ancient law, is bound to marry her.
It was a recipe to a shitty romance… and he had a feeling his mother and sister would love to watch a TV series about it.
Alicarde felt victimized by the whole ordeal, but he couldn't deny that the idea of a hot witch as a wife wasn't entirely unappealing. He quickly shook his head, forcing the thought out. He had to put his foot down and set things straight.
'Think I finally know why the main characters never want to get married… this sucks balls'
He looked over at Malefica, who was making minimal progress dissuading Vidalia, who seemed fully caught up in her imagination, already discussing potential names for their children.
She even brazenly offered to be a second wife, should Malefica already have some "arrangement" with him, leaving Malefica momentarily speechless.
Malefica decided to play her final card...Racism.
"He's not a human… He's a monster under that hood."
Vidalia looked at her defiantly.
"I don't care. I'll live with him regardless… if it's my fate, I'll accept it."
Malefica bit her lip, trying again.
"He's a serial killer."
Vidalia shook her head confidently.
"I can change him."
"He has may lovers."
"I can accept that as long as he sees me every now and again."
Helga and Madera, standing behind Vidalia, giggled in support, encouraging her with congratulations for "finding love."
'What love? I'm the victim here,' Alicarde thought, his patience running thin as Vidalia's dreams of domestic bliss expanded wildly.
He was about to shut it all down, thunder and lightning included, when a telepathic message from Malefica interrupted him.
"Cool your jets. I'm not letting this marriage happen, so don't do anything stupid."
Alicarde mentally scoffed.
"I wasn't going to."
Without missing a beat, Malefica kept her expression calm, not wishing to alert the witches to their telepathic conversation.
"Witches in the village tend to live in isolation. Since it's a community of women, they don't exactly have a lot of experience with men… clinging to these outdated customs."
Alicarde nodded.
"Hold on—what about the warlocks? Aren't they men?"
"Technically, yes, but they're probably young, born recently, and raised here among witches. They're likely immune to any female charms… unlike you."
Alicarde chuckled through the mental link.
"Are you calling me a connoisseur of all things female? You flatter me."
Malefica rolled her eyes mentally.
"No, I'm calling you a pervert. You should feel ashamed."
"Ouch, that almost hurt my feelings."
Glancing at the witches, who were still discussing Vidalia's "wedding," he sighed.
"Get me out of this mess."
Malefica sighed back.
"Alright, I have a plan. Just tell her you accept."
Alicarde narrowed his eyes.
"Are you trying to trick me here?"
"Just trust me and do it," Malefica replied, clearly losing patience.
"Fine," he muttered. "But this better work."
With that, he raised his head, cleared his throat, and adopted a tone of chivalric bravado.
"Yes, very well… as a man of honor, I accept. I will take responsibility. I cannot allow your dignity to be tarnished, my lady."
He spoke like a knight from a low-budget romance movie, written by someone with little regard for historical accuracy. To his mild surprise, Vidalia looked utterly moved, nodding shyly at his words.
'Geez, couldn't they have just accepted Malefica's apology and left it at that? But no… they just had to go medieval on us.'
Malefica quickly intervened before things could get even more out of hand.
"Now, let's return to the actual plan. The night is upon us, and soon, the moon will reach its zenith…. We are running out of time."
The other witches instantly shifted into a more serious demeanor, listening intently.
"How do we infiltrate the village steal the pentacle and save Marian."
Alicarde looked at the trio of witches, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Ladies, leave this to me. I have a plan,"
he said, laughing with a playful glint that left Vidalia and her friends in silent awe.
