Chapter 2461 Ruler of her Fate
Chapter 2461 Ruler of her Fate
There were no memories of this person in Grimsight's mind. No face, no voice, no gender. He didn't even have a silhouette. All he had was the knowledge that there had been someone there before, and now he just couldn't remember.
For a moment, Grimsight feared that this was the result of becoming a mortal. He was losing his memories. But no, he could remember everything else clearly.
He could remember the beautiful corpse, the broken scythe, the blue book, and the small scroll.
Memory was not the issue here. Something else was.
Grimsight tried harder, but nothing came of it. He knew there had been a person with him in the sepulcher. He was absolutely certain of it. And yet, he couldn't remember this person at all.
He knew the person had said words. He knew the person had laughed. Yet he couldn't recall any of the other person's conversation. He couldn't remember what their laughter sounded like.
It was an eerie situation, almost as if someone had reached into his mind and stolen away just that exact memory.
It was a horrible thought.
Silvermist didn't seem to realize the agony inside of Grimsight's mind, so he went on with his day as though nothing happened.
Alex walked out not long after, and Silvermist explained to him the situation.
"The gods are holding our interview? That's surprising. Which one did I get?" he asked.
Silvermist shrugged. "I don't know. You're not supposed to know right until the interview starts. It helps keep suspense and makes the audience stay."
"I see," Alex said. "I hope it's not—" He paused. "Never mind. I welcome any gods who wish to question me."
Silvermist raised an eyebrow and slowly shook his head. That was a close one.
"Anything about what questions will be asked?" Alex asked. "I wanted to prepare my answers beforehand."
"With the gods involved, expect chaos," Grimsight said from the side.
Alex nodded.
Still, he began preparing his answers for at least the basic questions, like where he was from and what he did before coming here. Questions about his alchemy journey were certain to be asked, so he needed to make sure he didn't accidentally let slip anything important. Who knew what these gods could force him to do?
As he sat on the porch with his master and Grimsight, preparing his answers, he suddenly sensed something and looked above.
He wasn't the only one. In fact, both Grimsight and Silvermist had noticed it before him.
Dark clouds gathered in the sky above them. In this city, this wasn't a surprising sight at all. However, they could tell that the clouds were gathered for their courtyard, and it was ready to strike.
Alex smiled as he realized what was happening. Silvermist was very proud as well.
Pearl walked out of his room quickly and ran up to them. "Is it what I think it is?" he asked.
Alex nodded. "Momo is about to do it."
Momo had called upon another Pill Cloud. And this time, they were certain she could succeed. They believed in her.
Inside of her room, Momo sat before Red Dawn as she stared at the ceiling where the dark clouds gathered within the room. This was the 4th pill she had made today, and finally, she had succeeded in doing what she had wanted to.
Even then, her face held no emotion at all. All it had was a focused look as she prepared for the lightning bolts.
The first pill lightning struck down from the sky, and she stopped it. With her Qi, the first one was easy.
Momo felt the energy within the cauldron swirl into the pill and remembered what she could learn from that. She remembered that she needed to talk about it with her master.
"Don't get distracted now," she told herself. "This is how you screwed up last time." She let go of her other thoughts and worries and focused entirely on the Pill Cloud.
The second pill lightning struck the pill, but her Qi protected it. A Saint Foundation 9th realm cultivator stopping a lightning bolt that was barely strong enough to be considered Saint Foundation 1st realm in strength was obvious.
Momo put another layer of Qi around the pill and focused on the clouds in the sky. She waited for the next lightning bolt, and even as she did, a part of her thought about all that she had accomplished in the past few weeks.
The main source of her worries, her competition, was now over. Her worries were no more in that regard, and she could finally be free of her self-expectations.
She had done badly, yes, but the result was now here, and that's all that mattered for her. A source of her stress was gone, after all.
The third pill lightning struck down, and she blocked it too. She could tell now that the lightning was getting stronger. The next one would have the strength of Saint Core 1st realm.
"I can do this!" she thought.
She had done so much until now, after all. For an orphan who was raised for the sole purpose of learning alchemy by a random stranger, she had succeeded in fulfilling her purpose.
Now, grander purposes waited for her—purposes that she could carve out herself.
No one else could decide for her now. She was going to make that decision. She was glad that her master and grandmaster helped her understand that.
She was the ruler of her own fate.
The fourth pill lightning struck down, and Momo poured her Qi to withstand it. Thanks to the strength of her Qi, she managed to do it. Her battle power was just strong enough.
Momo understood anything beyond this was not going to be stoppable, so she quickly did what her master had taught her and intended for the pill cloud to vanish.
She was skeptical about it being that easy, but to her pleasant surprise, the dark clouds dissipated almost immediately. She waited just a few more seconds to be sure it was gone, and when she was, she quickly pulled out the pill and looked at it.
The dark-gray pill now had 4 lightning marks, reflecting its status as a pill with 4 pill veins.
Momo felt her heart swell when she saw it. At the same time, she felt guilty that she hadn't done this yesterday. Had she made this pill yesterday, she could've gotten her master another pin.
But, as she thought before, the result was out already. And good or bad, there was nothing more for her to do.
Momo put aside the pill and relished the feeling of freedom that came with no longer being stressed about a situation. She felt lighter today, like a huge weight had been lifted off her.
It was an amazing feeling.
She took in that feeling and thought through everything she had worried about before the tournament. As the answers came to her one after another, she was stunned to realize that everything she had been stressed about before the competition was no more.
Now, she was truly free, and with this newfound freedom, Momo felt that she could do it now if she tried. She was certain of it.
She could win against her Inner Demon and successfully break through to the Saint Core realm.
