Chapter 2453 The Poison God's Anger
The Poison God's anger was palpable. Anyone within the courtyard could feel the literal air vibrate from his anger alone.
Alex was shaken at that moment. He felt the anger of a god pierce deep within him, and he felt the hate that came with it. It was not even directed toward him, and it was so strong.
It was such a strong intent.
Alex could barely think of anything during this moment, as the Poison God's anger alone consumed all of him. At some point, he forgot how long he had even been standing there. It felt like an hour, and yet it felt like seconds—maybe not even that.
At some point, he finally managed to gain a modicum of sanity, just enough to understand what was happening to him. The Poison God's intent was affecting his spiritual sea, so he needed to contain that.
Immediately, he used the Spirit Reversal technique, blocking off any and all outside influence on his body. As soon as he did that, he could feel his Qi being drained at a terrifying rate. At the speed he was losing it, he would be out of Qi in a matter of minutes.
If such a thing was happening to him, he could only imagine the horrors Momo was going through. He needed to protect her before she lost her mind forever.
Alex turned to her, ready to take her into his Soul Space where she would be safe. However, when he attempted to, he found Grimsight standing over him, reaching with his fingers.
The drainage of his Qi lessened right at that moment. Grimsight had done something to block the influence of the Poison God's anger.
Alex slowly stood up, straightening his buckling knee. He looked at the Poison God and could see flakes of white ash slowly dropping from his face in bits. And where it fell, Alex saw vibrant colors.
Blue, green, red—colors of all shades, bright as a patch of flowers in sunlight, blossomed from the parts of the man's face where the ash fell.
Alex watched in awe, wondering what the colors were when he realized the terrifying possibility.
Poison. Those colors he saw were no doubt poisonous aura leaking from the man. Was it intentional? He wasn't sure. He only knew he needed to back away.
There was no way he was going to test the extent of his body's poison-nullifying capability with the Poison God's poison. He stepped back while tugging on Grimsight's robes.
Grimsight, however, stood where he was. At that moment, his old crooked body seemed to straighten, and then his words came out loud and powerful.
"Poison God!"
The ground shook with Grimsight's voice, catching even the Poison God off guard. The god stared back at the old man with no cultivation base or aura, stunned to feel the power in his voice.
"You…"
"Contain yourself," Grimsight said.
The Poison God now stared at Grimsight with caution. All of his anger was washed away in one moment, replaced by a mixture of awe and confusion.
"Master, your paint," Bonedust quickly said.
The Poison God reached for his ashen-white face and realized some of the paint had flaked away in his anger. He quickly pulled out a small jar and dipped his finger into it to bring out a finger full of white paste. He then began applying that paste onto his face while his eyes continued staring at Grimsight.
"You… you are no weak man," the Poison God said. "What reason do you have to infiltrate my current residence?"
Grimsight's body returned to its natural crooked state. "I did not infiltrate, Your Deadliness. I am Alchemist Silvermist's retainer, and so I was invited here along with him."
"Oh, are you now?" the god asked, scoffing. He did not believe that at all. "A man of your prowess would not be a simple retainer. Tell me, who are you really? Who do you work for?"
"I work for him," Grimsight said, pointing to Silvermist.
The Poison God saw that and shook his head. "You have come to me, and yet you continue to lie. I see you hold no respect for me," the Poison God said as he lifted his hand.
Something appeared in his palm at that very moment. It was a small dagger made of dark metal. He smiled as he readied to use it.
Grimsight looked at the dagger and then at the Poison God. He couldn't help but sigh. "My apologies, Your Deadliness. But I have no intention to fight with a god. Please find in your heart the generosity to forgive my sin today."
Grimsight bowed quite deeply too.
The Poison God stared at him for a while as an amused look overtook his ash-white face. "No, I don't think I will."
"Please, Your Deadliness. We have juniors around. It won't be a good idea to fight," Grimsight said.
"I don't think you can make such claims after infiltrating my place. The only way you are getting out of here now is as a corpse. So if you want to leave, then be prepared to die."
Grimsight looked at the man, unable to find a way to deal with this troubling situation. He tried to say something, but right at that moment, he sensed movement.
A bright golden spear flashed into existence in Grimsight's hands, and he swung it toward the Poison God. The Poison God had simply let the poison dagger fly at the man, so he only needed to back up and use a technique to protect himself.
Grimsight struck the incoming dagger with his spear, not directly fighting it back but rather redirecting it in another direction. It flew close past where Alex was, missing him by inches.
Then, Grimsight turned around toward Alex as his task was not done.
Alex saw a blur that made little sense. Even with his eyes, catching all of Grimsight's movements was pretty much impossible. He saw something fly past him at first, and then Grimsight's golden spear blurred next to him for a moment before something else flew past him a second time.
Two separate explosions rang out loud from two sides, one in the opposite direction of where the Poison God was, and another far to his right.
In addition to that, he heard a faint sound of what he could only surmise to be a single pluck of a string instrument, followed by a whistling noise. He feared more explosions, but nothing else happened.
Silvermist rushed to cover Alex with a protective aura at that moment and pulled Momo closer too.
The Poison God, surprised, stepped back.
Grimsight stood where he was. He looked at the Poison God just once before turning left to look at something else.
Alex looked to the side. The dagger from the Poison God had been the first attack that Grimsight had protected him from. But there had been another attack, which he checked.
When he did, he noticed something sticking out of the destroyed ground to the right. Something red. As the dust settled, he took a closer look at what it was and was surprised to see something completely different.
It was a bright red arrow.
