Chapter 338: Pseudo-Domain
Chapter 338: Pseudo-Domain
Jay didn't wait for the monsters to encircle him. The moment he identified the weakest among them, he surged forward, his colossal strides shaking the desolate battlefield.
Each step was like a hammer blow to the ground, sending shockwaves rippling outward, the earth trembling beneath his sheer weight and power. Though the creatures opposing him were towering at 30 meters, they were still dwarfed by his imposing 60-meter body.
In a way, it reminded him of his very first encounter in the Trial World—his battle with the green-skinned goblins. The size disparity felt strikingly similar to what he faced now.
However, Jay didn't underestimate the Tier-6 monsters despite their smaller size compared to him. Instead, he gave it his all. Although he couldn't utilize the boosts from Pseudo-Speed Energy or any Aura while in INVERSE mode, he had other abilities to rely on.
Jay first summoned the Origin Glaive, gripping only a portion of it. Just the longest blade and a small section of the hilt materialized in his hand, while the rest remained concealed in the space. To an observer, it appeared as though he was wielding an oversized dagger.
No longer the six-foot-long weapon it once was, the glaive had enlarged proportionally to match Jay's size. The visible portion of the Origin Glaive now stretched an impressive 18 meters, comparable to the height of a six-story building.
Jay had long resolved to keep the true form of the Glaive concealed, shrouding its blade in Origin Energy to obscure its appearance, and he remained steadfast in that decision. Gripping it firmly, he leapt toward the weakest of the monsters, aiming to take it down in a single decisive strike.
He swung the blade, now enveloped in Origin Energy, with the intent of finishing the monster in one swift motion. However, the creature didn't simply stand idle.
Instead, it defended itself as the barren ground around it crumbled and transformed into layers of compacted sand, forming a protective barrier within a hundred-meter radius. The sudden fortification effectively absorbed the brunt of Jay's attack, forcing him to reassess.
Jay immediately recognized a Pseudo-Domain when he saw it. Only those at Tier-7 and above could wield a true Domain, with an exception for those at the peak of Tier-6. However, they could only manifest a weaker version, with a much smaller range.Although limited in range, these Pseudo-Domains granted exceptional control over a specific element or Aura within their confines.
Even so, Jay remained unfazed. The Origin Glaive, shrouded in Origin Energy, had the remarkable ability to negate 50% of any element, Aura, or Energy it encountered.
This rendered it highly effective, enabling it to pierce through the Pseudo-Domain without much struggle, slicing through the layers of sand as if they were melting iron exposed to extreme heat.
The monster managed to evade a fatal blow, shifting just enough to avoid the blade striking its vital organs, but it wasn't fast enough to escape unscathed—it took a deep stab to the shoulder. Jay prepared for a follow-up strike, but before he could act, three other monsters lunged at him.
He dodged them, but his movement brought him directly into the path of three more monsters closing in from another direction. Realizing he couldn't keep evading forever, Jay activated Phantom Form, becoming intangible and slipping out of reality.
The monsters passed harmlessly through him, leaving Jay standing still and untouched. Once they moved past, he deactivated Phantom Form and immediately struck at the closest monster.
Sensing the imminent danger, the monster quickly activated its own Pseudo-Domain. Like the first, it managed to prevent critical damage, suffering only a non-lethal injury instead of a devastating strike.
Once again, before Jay could launch another attack, the remaining monsters sprang into action, forcing him back into Phantom Form to avoid their relentless assault.
As Jay observed the flow of the battle, two key details stood out.
First, the injuries inflicted with Origin Energy showed no signs of healing—a limitation he had previously seen in the Plasma Predator, where the energy's anti-healing property effectively nullified regenerative abilities.
Second, monsters using Pseudo-Domains were restricted to the boundaries of their domains and could not move beyond them while maintaining their control.
These realizations gave Jay a new strategy. Inflicting wounds with Origin Energy would weaken the monsters over time, while their Pseudo-Domains' restrictive nature could be used to his advantage.
He shifted his focus, targeting multiple monsters one after another. By forcing them to activate their Pseudo-Domains, he ensured they sustained at least irrecoverable injuries while becoming trapped within their own limited ranges.
The battle turned into a test of stamina as Jay methodically compelled each monster to activate its Pseudo-Domain. Soon, every single one of them was bound to its respective domain, unable to move freely.
While effective, the strategy was physically draining. Continuously activating and deactivating Phantom Form to evade attacks rapidly depleted his energy, but Jay had an advantage—Vral's enhanced Innate Talent.
This talent allowed him to store stamina indefinitely and draw from a reserve of Perpetual Stamina at will. Coupled with the ability to substitute Spirit Energy with stamina, Jay's extended reserves enabled him to sustain the relentless physical and energy expenditure.
If Jay had been able to neutralize the monsters' Pseudo-Domains, the battle would have been far easier. However, that was nothing more than wishful thinking.
While in INVERSE mode, he was unable to use?NEUTRALIZER?, as the looted stats couldn't be utilized to activate its abilities. Still, Jay took solace in the fact that he could use Zeix's Innate Talent without restriction while in this mode, which provided a crucial advantage.
With all one hundred monsters confined to their Pseudo-Domains, Jay focused on taking them down one by one. He relied on Tiris's Innate Talent?AMPLIFIER?to enhance her?Time Seal?skill, making it powerful enough to immobilize even peak Tier-6 monsters despite being only an Epic Grade ability.
While the energy expenditure was significant, Jay used it strategically to restrict the monsters' movements within their domains and eliminate them.
Jay also attempted to amplify the potency of his Origin Energy attacks, but the attempt failed immediately.
He couldn't help but think, 'If something could amplify Origin Energy, it wouldn't be the all-powerful force it's meant to be in the first place.' He concluded that the only way to unlock its full potential was by further increasing his mastery over it.
For some of the stronger monsters, it took multiple full swings of the Origin Glaive to bring them down, but they eventually succumbed.
Recognizing the inevitability of their fate if they remained in their Pseudo-Domains, the remaining monsters dispersed their domains and launched a coordinated attack on Jay, surrounding him from all sides.
Jay retaliated fiercely, but the monsters would reactivate their Pseudo-Domains whenever their lives were in danger, making it increasingly difficult to deal with them.
Frustrated by the drawn-out battle, Jay considered using?HEAVEN BREAKER?to wipe them out in one decisive move. Now that he wielded the Origin Glaive, he didn't have to worry about destroying the weapon in the process.
However, he hesitated, uncertain if using it would force him out of INVERSE mode, as it had when he used it against the Plasma Predator.
Instead, Jay activated?Berserk?, boosting his base stats by 60%. This increased his overall stats in STATUS to 9,960 and, in turn, it should have elevated his usable looted stats in INVERSE mode to nearly 30,000—a staggering leap of 12,000.
However, to his disappointment, his stats remained capped at 20,000. It was only then that Jay realized he had reached the 2nd Universe Limit, preventing his stats from surpassing that threshold without breaking through it.
