D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Chapter 1719 Back at Last

Chapter 1719 Back at Last

--- Kat ---

When Kat and Lily finally returned home it was already dark. Everyone except Callisto was in bed and the maid could be heard downstairs cooking for some reason. Shrugging it off Kat looked over to Lily and asked, "Do you want to head back home?"

Kat was busy putting the various carvings nicknacks off into the corner. They’d manage to carry a few things they wanted to keep between each other. They were mostly things that they’d picked up along the way but they’d also grabbed the tent and sleeping bags as well as some of the gems for currency. The last one was because of Nira’s prompting and not because they’d thought of it themselves.

"No way I’m so tired," yawned Lily as she deposited the things she was carrying alongside Kat’s pile. "I’m just gonna transform and snuggle up here with you,"

"Should we let Callisto know we’re here?" asked Kat as she fought back the urge to yawn as well. She’d… not had the best sleep schedule in recent days and it had turned into one thing after the other. Even if part of that was her own fault. Staying up late for that date was definitely worth it but it meant she’d not had a proper sleep recently. She’d tried to sleep after everything had been finished up with Pebbles…

But Kat hadn’t been able to relax and Meg’s jumpscare hadn’t exactly helped things. So now that Kat was feeling safe and comfortable she knew she’d get some proper sleep… and that might mean sleeping through the morning. Lily hadn’t answered yet but Kat had already decided. "I’m gonna say hello and then pass out,"

"Alright, I’ll just wait here for you," mumbled Lily as she collapsed onto the bed and transformed in the process leaving a tiny kitty that took up almost no space on the bed. Kat carefully made her way downstairs and waited for Callisto to step away from the stove to wave.

Callisto jumped slightly, but smiled back. "Hello Kat, I see you and Lily have returned. I am just practicing some new recipes I am not entirely confident in sharing with everyone at the moment. Did you need something? Some food perhaps?"

"No just letting you know we were back and sort of tired. I mean… we’ll probably be up for breakfast but maybe not?" said Kat.

Callisto nodded, "That is fine with me though do be aware that Sylvie has school tomorrow and may be disappointed if you do not at least say hello. I understand, and so does she, that you were off saving a world and that will get you a lot of leeway… but at the same time you were gone for longer then normal. I think there is only one other trip that was anywhere close to this one in length and even with Sylvie’s knew friends to distract her she really has missed you,"

Kat winced. "Um… you can wake me up then?"

"I am not trying to pressure you into anything Kat. If you need the sleep please take this chance to catch up on it. I am simple warning you that such a thing will have consequences. Perhaps you want to try and provoke them. I am sure Sylvie will use it as an excuse to spend even more time with you while you are at home for a bit," explained Callisto.

"Tempting…" mumbled Kat. "… but not really worth it I don’t think. Even if seeing Sylvie trying not to act annoyed would be adorable,"

"Understood. I will wake you up before she leaves for school if you are not already up in that case," stated Callisto.

"Thanks," said Kat as she moved away to grab two glasses of water from the fridge before heading upstairs. When she got there, Kat could see that Lily was already asleep so she set aside the extra cup she’d gotten for Lily and finished off her own. "Probably should’ve done that before I came downstairs…"

Kat shook her head and put the empty glass down. She was too tired to bother with that right now. Kat threw her sheets off to the side and pulled Lily up onto her chest before realising her wings were getting squished. *Might want to look for a magic bed… or learn how to hide my wings. I’m Rank four so that might be enough? Sleeping on my wings isn’t the worst thing in the world, and I did it plenty of times before… but bleh not right now.* Kat was much too tired to think this through. So she moved Lily to her back after flipping over and promptly fell asleep.

--- Kat --- (The Next Morning)

Kat’s eyes snapped open when she registered the sound of clicking cutlery downstairs. Glancing around she realised that at some point during the night she’d flipped around onto her back and Lily had gotten stuck between her boobs. Whose fault that actually was? Kat wasn’t sure but she had a suspicion that it was a combined effort somehow. For a few seconds she considered not getting up but the image of Sylvie’s disappointed face flashed across her mind.

Sitting up Kat quickly adjusted her kimono to prevent it from coming apart and considered waking Lily up before shrugging. Her girlfriend was small enough to remain where she was without much of an issue and it wasn’t like she minded. *Will Sylvie want to see her? Yes probably but it’s not as pressing. Plus Lily can wake up later and it’ll still be fine. I might wake her up right before Sylvie leaves so she can say hello but for now it’s fine.*

Kat made her way downstairs and as soon as a certain someone could hear her on the stairs she dropped her cutlery onto the table and sprinted over. Kat had to keep Sylvie from tripping over on the first step and they were soon hugging each other. "Kat are you really back?" asked Sylvie.

Kat winced at the question. Apparently, it had felt like quite a while for Sylvie. "Eh… er…" Kat didn’t know what to say in the face of such enthusiasm… nor that particular phrasing on Sylvie’s behalf. Clearly Sylvie had been thinking about this moment for some time now and perhaps even dreamed of it once or twice.

*Why though? I was fairly consistent with my messages back right?* Even as she said it Kat couldn’t help but wince. Sure she was consistent at the beginning but updates quickly became ’more travelling not much happened’ and a lot of the things that DID happen were glossed over. She’d also not sent anything back since the whole fiasco with Pebbles now that she was thinking about it. Just a quick ’think we got the bad guy’ and then two days of silence.

"I guess I am," mumbled Kat after a few seconds of silence. "Sorry it took so long. Things got complicated. I mean, I already mentioned that but… yeah things got complicated,"

"Mhmh," agreed Sylvie without letting go of Kat to properly articulate things. Letting out a quiet sigh Kat bent down and lifted Sylvie up to move over to the table. Kat took Sylvie’s old seat and let Sylvie sit on her legs. Kat’s hope was that this would encourage Sylvie to finish her breakfast so that there was no risk of Sylvie either missing school or going hungry but it didn’t work. Sylvie simply remained hugging Kat and facing away from the table even though she was now getting poked in the cheek by one of Lily’s horns.

Deciding to ease the tension in the room Vivian said, "Welcome back Kat. It’s good to see you returned safe and sound and it’s adorable that I can see Lily hiding in your chest. You both must’ve been really tired after saving a whole world. Why not tell us a bit about it before we have to get moving?"

Kat smiled at the offer, "Well it started out pretty normally. We spent a lot of time travelling and sharing stories between each other. Hunter, whose name is actually 23HX443 because of… complicated reasons… er… well she told us a lot of stories about herself. I shared some as well of course and so did Kamiko but it was mostly just everyone getting used to each other.

"We had a few more noteworthy interactions passing through a few towns but if we’re just keeping the retelling short? I can probably skip over them all. They didn’t matter too much in the grand scheme of things even if it gave us more opportunities to get used to working together.

"This continued till we started getting hit by waves of monsters. The drake we were hunting was disturbing the environment a bunch. So we had to fight our way to the last town and it was a slog. Once we got there we enlisted the help of this old man named Bower and headed off into the woods. They were full of mist that caused all sorts of strange things to happen but mostly it contained a bunch of pocket dimensions. Some were watery caves, and another was a world made of glass…" Read exclusive chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
