Chapter 255 We Have Your Back
Chapter 255 We Have Your Back
The battlefield still echoed with the faint whispers of dark energy as Seren stood in the middle of the ruined clearing. Her breath came in sharp gasps, the exhaustion of the fight evident on her face.
Yet, there was a triumphant gleam in her crimson eyes as she turned to face the others, they all smiled at her in unison, happy for her, although Nysa had her signature indifferent look.
Alera approached first, her shadowy generals, Shadowshed, Dread, and Torment, dissolving into nothingness of the Living Shadows after their pivotal roles in the battle.
The shadows seemed to linger for a moment, as if reluctant to leave their mistress, before vanishing entirely. Alera folded her arms across her chest, her violet eyes glimmering faintly.
"You did well, Seren," Alera said, her tone even but carrying a trace of satisfaction. "But don't get ahead of yourself. If we hadn't intervened, that 'Elite' title might've been carved into your tombstone. You shouldn't be so cocky and accept help when it's offered. Did you really think you could take on an Elite on your own when the Special Class almost ended you?"
Seren chuckled weakly, shaking her head. "I'm not arguing with you what you said, you're right, Alera. I wouldn't have made it without you and… your friends, Petne." She glanced at the spot where the shadow generals had vanished, a hint of respect in her expression.
Pyris joined them, brushing some dirt water off his cloak with magic "Not bad, Seren," he said with a teasing grin. "For someone who insisted on handling it solo, you really made it a team effort."
Seren rolled her eyes, smirking despite her exhaustion. "Don't start teasing me, Pyris. I said I didn't want to burden you with my quest. I didn't say I was going to refuse help when things got out of hand."
Lyra laughed softly in the background, her cheerful presence a stark contrast to the darkened battlefield. "She has a point, Pyris. At least she didn't scream for help… loudly."
"Alright, alright," Pyris said, raising his hands in mock surrender. "No more jokes. Seriously though, Seren, good job. This wasn't an easy fight, even with Alera's elite team stepping in. You held your own, good work there, though improve in your mobility and magic usage."
Seren nodded, her expression turning serious. "Thanks, everyone. I mean it." Her gaze shifted to the fallen Flower Beast, its once-majestic form now reduced to a lifeless husk. "Now, let me finish what I came here for."
But first, she unsheathed her twin curved blades again, the dark steel gleaming faintly in the dim light. With deliberate movements, she knelt by the massive creature and began to cut through its thick, veined flesh. Blackened ichor oozed from the incision, the pungent scent making Lyra wrinkle her nose and take a step back.
"You sure you don't need a hand with that?" Pyris called out, half-joking.
Seren shot him a look, her lips twitching into a smirk. "I can dig up a core without assistance, thank you very much."
Alera leaned against a nearby tree, watching with mild interest as Seren continued her work. "Careful. Elite cores are volatile if mishandled."

"I know," Seren replied, her voice steady despite the effort, Alera was carefully and skillfully taking care of Seren, showering her the utmost care when she saw that Pyris was giving Seren extra attention.
If Pyris wanted her, Alera would then just help out, but she was overthinking here.
Finally, with a soft pop, the core emerged from the beast's remains.
Seren held it up, a smooth, dark sphere that pulsed faintly with an inner glow. It was about the size of her palm, and even from a distance, the power radiating from it was palpable.
Pyris's eyes lit up with curiosity as he stepped closer. "Mind if I take a look?"
Seren handed the core to him without hesitation, wiping her hands on a piece of cloth. "Go ahead."
Pyris held the core up, focusing intently as his system activated. A faint shimmer surrounded the orb as its properties were appraised.
"Appraise"

"Well, well," Pyris said, lowering the core as a sly smile crept onto his face. "Looks like you've got yourself quite the prize, Seren."
"And?" Seren prompted, raising an eyebrow, she asked, she had some idea but it didn't hurt to ask, Petne as they knew him as, seemed to know more than others would.
Pyris tossed the core back to her, which she caught effortlessly. "Let's just say, if you're planning to tango with darkness any time soon, this thing will make you an excellent dance partner."
Alera stepped forward, her gaze fixed on the core. "Use it well Seren, Elite Cores will be a good boast!"
Seren held the core tightly, her expression resolute. "This is what isn't what I came for, but I will gladly appreciate it."
For a moment, there was silence. Then Pyris clapped her on the shoulder, grinning. "You're braver than you look, Seren. Just don't forget we've got your back when things go south."
"Don't worry, Petne," Seren said with a smirk. "I can't ever forget that."
Lyra giggled in the background, while Alera merely nodded, her gaze still lingering on the core. Whatever came next, it was clear that Seren's journey was only beginning.
"Of course," Pyris said with a grin.
Alera rolled her eyes, dismissing her shadow generals with a wave. "If you two are done bantering, we still have a quest to finish."
Seren nodded, picking up the Flower of Darkness. As she held it, a sense of relief washed over her. Her mother would be saved, and she had proven her strength.
But deep down, she knew this was just the beginning.
