Chapter 254 Conflict
Chapter 254 Conflict
Only an hour had gone by but the incident at the tourist zone was already on every mainstream news in the city. Although all of the individuals inside the area had been forcefully teleported away, there was still a large number of people outside the gate. These were the ones who were made to queue outside as the tourist zone was already filled with people.
While they didn't know exactly what had happened, they had all realised that the crowd on the other side of the gate had disappeared mysteriously. As soon as they figured that out, they began spreading the news and contacting people in the city. This was because some of them were familiar with a few in the crowd, and they felt it important to inform the family members of the victims.
With the crowd outside the gate making mass reports about the incident, the media eventually got a whiff of it and had rushed towards the scene. At the same time, the city government had also responded.
Currently, the city government was split into two. One side was made of the faction that had pushed for the destruction of the East Braftford relics while the other was made of the factions against it.
The latter believed that the relics held a lot of valuable resources and knowledge, which by destroying the relics would lead to the loss of them all. Hence, they were strongly against the destruction of the relics and instead pushed for exploration operations.
On the other hand, the former believed that the East Braftford relics held too much of a threat to the city. Just from the fact that only thirty four percent (34%) of the inner region has been explored after hundreds of years, it was obvious that whatever was inside the relics could pose a threat to the city and its surrounding area.
Originally, the faction in support of the preservation and exploration of the East Braftford relics had the upper hand. This was because some of the artefacts taken out from there had proven helpful to society, and the value of the archeological artifacts had even attracted the interest of some of the merchant groups outside the planet. With so much value and wealth before them, the voice of the faction in favour of destruction of the relics was feeble and muted off. Even the neutrals had stepped in and sided with the other faction, so there was no debate again.
However, with the event that recently took place, the faction in favour of destruction raised their voices after years of suppression. They utilised their connections to some media channels and began trying to push their agenda once again.
Suddenly, within a few hours, there were various news reports about how some officials.in the city government were greedy and left behind a latent threat instead of dealing with it. There were also talks about how the Sunil civilisation relics weren't relics to be readily explored much less turned into a tourist attraction. Historians and researchers even made appearances on interviews, giving more information about the Sunil civilisation.
The Sunil civilisation was a civilisation that existed four to six thousand years ago. Although such a time seemed long, the hyumankin civilisation has already existed for more than ten thousand years. The era of pure humans was even further behind. Although the Sunil civilisation seemed to have lasted longer than the human race, this wasn't exactly true. The human race was found to be one of the oldest intelligent species according to the hyumans, whereas the Sunil civilisation could possibly be relatively younger. This meant that it was possible that the Sunil civilisation came into existence for a duration not longer than two hundred thousand years; in comparison to the pure human race that existed —from evolution until extinction— for more than three hundred thousand years.
According to the efforts of the researchers and historians, the Sunil civilisations technology wasn't too advanced. It was ahead of the human race, but didn't even come halfway to what the hyumans could achieve. This was because the human race had experienced so many wars that led to drastic loss of knowledge and information, making the entire civilisation restart multiple times. On the other hand, the Sunil civilisation didn't experience such, so they were able to advance technologically even faster. But they lacked the foundation and resources that the hyumankins had, and so were behind.
Of course, this was in reference to the entire hyumankin and not those on Eretre. Compared to the other planets, Eretre was a backwater. In fact, the entire solar system was actually a rural area compared to others, which was why the technology available wasn't much; they still utilised technology such as hover vehicles and light rail trains, while the rest of the universe used short or long distance teleportation.
As the researchers on camera spoke about this during their interviews, people began to realise that they had underestimated the Sunil civilisation relics. Although the entire civilisation couldn't do much to the hyumankin as a whole, affecting a single city wasn't impossible.
If the entire Sunil civilisation was classified as 2 in terms of technology and strength, then Trundel City was 3.5 on the same scale. The difference wasn't necessarily much, which meant that the relics could threaten them.
This caused a lot of fears to rise amongst the people, and this was especially so for those related to the missing victims. Cries could be heard in the city and calls began to rise for the destruction of the relics before it was too late. It wouldn't be difficult for the city government to level the entire relics although it would cost them a lot. However to the people, their safety was more important than any cost.
The faction in support of maintaining the relics was suddenly now under pressure as the roles had been reversed. In order to comfort the masses and quell their anger, they hurriedly reacted to the situation.
The official security agency of Trundel City rushed over to the East Braftford relics and began reviewing security footage, transactions and all identity registration sequences. From there, they managed to find out the information about the man who had caused the reaction from the Aura-breaking stele.
There were a few cameras inside the tourist zone, and although they stopped functioning after the burst of light, the footage had already been transmitted and saved to the online database. It was from here that the security agency managed to understand a bit of what exactly happened as well as find a lead on the culprit.
The culprit turned out to be an assistant researcher; which was a rank below that of a professional researcher. In some ways, one could say that he was an intern. After raiding his house and hacking his communicator, they managed to uncover some details about him.
The man was obsessed with the relics and artefacts, which wasn't anything strange as many researchers were obsessed with such. However, his focus was on the Sunil civilisation. This also wasn't strange as some researchers tend to focus on one civilisation at a time. However, it was a message on his communicator that had the police suspicious.
An unknown contact that couldn't be traced back had texted the young man a couple of times. The last message came two days ago. At first, it wasn't anything strange and might have even come off as geeky, but with what had happened recently, it became a suspicious point of focus.
The text read: It's time to bring glory to the motherland.
