Chapter 269 Huishi Alligators vs. Shizi Dogs (1)
The players went to the court, where they saw the Huishi Alligators already on their bench.
The seats were still filled, with most of the other schools tuning into the game.
As the Shizi Dogs settled on their bench, some girls called Kai's name.
Kai frowned and turned around.
The girls burst into giggles as Kai scratched the back of his head. He then waved his hand, creating another frenzy among them.
Suzy, who was situated on the right side of the bench, looked at Kai with absent eyes.
Yani, who was by her side, was in the same state.
"I...I'm an awful person," she muttered. "Why did I say all those things about him?"
Fei, who remembered their interaction a while ago, also became red as she continued watching Kai.
Grace smiled as she nudged Fei's shoulder.
"I told you that he was handsome!" she exclaimed.
Fei couldn't hear Grace's words; her eyes only focused on Kai.
"Guys, gather around," Lina said.
The players formed a circle around her, with Kai standing right next to her.
Somehow, although they've had contact plenty of times, it felt different this time.
Nonetheless, she set aside her feelings and focused on the game at hand.
"Our focus is to stop Qiang," she said before turning to Kai. She couldn't look into his eyes for too long, so she went back to the board she was holding.
"Kai," she said. "I'm entrusting him to you."
Kai nodded with a small smirk.
Jet patted his back. "Don't embarrass us now."
"I won't," Kai smiled.
With that, the referee went to the middle of the court and bowed before blowing the whistle.
"Alright, alright! It's been a while, so I can't wait," Mark exclaimed. "The game is now bound to start. Let's have the first starting players of each team on the court!"
Kai shook his hands as he lined up with the other starting players.
"Let's see!" Mark excitedly said. "On the side of the Huishi Alligators, we have their usual starting line-up. As always, we have Qiang Kun, the most valuable first-year player in Jilin City!"
"Now, for the Shizi Dogs..."
"Oh, what's this? We have some unfamiliar faces!"
"Yuze Chen, Andy Liang, Kun Tian, Jet Li, and Kai Guo! Dang, Kai! You got a nice haircut. The ladies are going wild with your new appearance. I used to look like you back in the day," he chuckled, but none of the audience members seemed to agree. Read new chapters at empire
Mark awkwardly cleared his throat as the center players made their way to the center of the court.
Kris, one of the Alligators, nudged Qiang's shoulder.
"What?" Qiang snapped.
"Do you think you can handle that dude?" he asked, nodding toward Kai's way. "It seems like he's guarding you."
Qiang smirked as he cracked his knuckles.
"Leave it up to me," he said. "I'll plummet that pretty boy's face to the ground."
With that, the referee blew the whistle before throwing it high into the air.
Yuze, who was a good few inches taller from the Alligators' center, managed to get the ball as expected.
The crowd screamed as they began to feel the excitement of the game.
Coach Liam of the Alligators clicked his tongue.
"Yuze's a menace as always," he muttered.
The ball made its way to Kai's hand, causing him to smirk.
"It's time," he muttered.
With that, he started dribbling the ball with ease.
Max leaned his elbows against his lap as he watched him.
Coach Guanyu, too, narrowed his eyes to get a better look at the first-year player. It was the first time he was going to watch a game with the Shizi Dogs. His relationship with Yuze had prevented him from doing so for the past few years.
Coach Yixing of the Xing Stars also watched intently, wanting to see how the player he tried to recruit had improved during the break.
Kai was quick with his ball handling, maneuvering through the players who tried to stop him.
The Alligators were surprised. They didn't expect Kai Guo to be this good.
Kai went inside the three-point line. However, just before he positioned himself to shoot, a very big presence stood before him.
Qiang Kun stood in front of Kai, his body nearly double that of his.
The audience watched the showdown with bated breaths. They also couldn't believe the difference in their bodies. Kai already had a great build, so seeing Qiang nearly devour him with his figure was shocking.
"Show me what you got, pretty boy," Qiang said with a smirk.
Qiang expected Kai to be intimidated. Most people were usually scared in his midst.
So, he was shocked when Kai mirrored his smirk.
"Gladly," he smiled.
With that, Kai dribbled the ball past Qiang, causing him to freeze.
"Fast," Lina exclaimed, standing from her seat.
"He's fast!"
Max, too, couldn't help but furrow his eyebrows as Kai surpassed Qiang. Then, he even surpassed Kris, the tallest member of their team.
He jumped high into the sky and performed a dunk, causing the court to become silent for a few moments.
"A dunk from Kai Guo for the first point of the game!" Mark exclaimed, causing the crowd to shout.
"It was such a quick one that it barely registered in my brain!"
Lina watched the scene with an agape mouth.
However, she wasn't the only one.
Even the players on the court couldn't believe their eyes.
Kai hung on the ring for a couple of seconds before flawlessly jumping down.
2-0.
"He hasn't played like that before," Lina muttered, feeling a chill run down her spine.
She felt something in the pit of her stomach—amazement and fear.
"What happened?" she asked.
The Alligators' captain clicked his tongue in annoyance before dribbling the ball toward their side of the court. However, he fumbled as he reached the half-line.
Although he didn't want to admit it, he was pretty shaken because of Kai Guo's play.
Jet caught the ball from their fumble and looked for a member to pass it, too.
He saw Andy, but he was being guarded by someone. Then, from his peripheral vision, he saw someone running to his side.
Jet couldn't register who it was, but he knew that he was one of them.
So, he passed the ball with certainty.
Kai smirked as he caught the ball.
"Thanks," he said. Then, he sped to the court, with Qiang on his trail.
However, due to his heaviness, Qiang wasn't able to catch up to him.
With that, Kai positioned himself on the free-throw line and quickly shot the ball.
Swoosh.
4-0.
"What the heck happened with Kai?"
