Chapter 1003: Chapter 1003: A pang of conscience
Lin Gantang’s mind was filled with thoughts as she occasionally wandered off while walking through the streets. Wen Yanqing had noticed early in the morning that even though she was beside him, she frequently pulled out her phone to tap away and chat, her mind seemingly elsewhere.
Once they got home, Lin Gantang immediately nestled into the sofa and took off her scarf to continue fiddling with her phone.
Wen Yanqing sat next to her, watched her for a moment, reached out silently, and took the drawing she had brought back.
Lin Gantang waited for Le Yu’s message, which came just half an hour before. Hong Shuangying had tagged Le Yu asking if he had sent the gift, and his screen was dominated by a mix of angry and crying emojis.
Hong Shuangying’s gossip instinct was even more outstanding. She sensed something unusual immediately, “[Don’t tell me you two have something going on.]”
Gan Minglu scrolled up through the chat history and jumped in, “[…You didn’t actually send the eyeshadow palette I mentioned, did you?]”
Gan Minglu: “[I’m panicking. Speak up, let me see if I should go apologize.]”
Marriage and parenting often come with their own reasoning!
Lin Gantang: “[I saw both of their figures; they seemed to be arguing.]”
Gan Minglu: “[!!]”
Hong Shuangying: “[Not coming out? Are you still comforting your girlfriend?]”
Lin Gantang felt it was possible so guessed Le Yu wouldn’t reply for a while, and hence, put down her phone.
She reached to her left and touched the fuzzy tabby cat, recalling if she had placed something there just now?
Lin Gantang froze in her actions.
Big Mi, seeing her stop, extended a paw and hugged her palm while rubbing against it, her round eyes watching intently and her sleek tail swaying.
Was the little tyrant being affectionate? Lin Gantang was instantly charmed by it.
When else to pet if not now! Lin Gantang directly held the cat and gave up thinking.
When Wen Yanqing came out from the bedroom, Lin Gantang was already petting Big Mi, who was purring loudly. Seeing Wen Yanqing pass through the living room to open the door, she couldn’t help asking, “Who is it?”
“The Christmas tree we ordered has arrived.”
The staff brought the green fir into the living room to set it up and then left. Lin Gantang got up and went over to look. The curious Miaowan, even more interested, circled the tree twice, arched her body, and pounced onto the tree only to be caught by Wen Yanqing mid-air.
“Meow~” Miaowan voiced her dissatisfaction.
“The Christmas tree arrived so soon?” Lin Gantang was surprised.
Wen Yanqing put down the little female cat, “When I called to make a reservation over the phone, they had it in stock and could deliver it right away.”
Lin Gantang grew more puzzled, “When did you make the call?” They had been together the whole time.
Wen Yanqing quietly looked at her, his tone melancholic and pitiful, “While you were busy chatting with someone else at the mall.”
Lin Gantang finally sensed his sense of grievance. Feeling a twinge of guilt, she quickly dropped Big Mi to hug her husband, showing a sweet smile, her eyes bright like autumn waters, “Honey, you’re so good. I just mentioned wanting a Christmas tree and you had it ready. I love you so much.”
After a kiss on the cheek followed by one on the corner of his mouth, she looked up at him.
Big Mi, suddenly dropped, landed on all fours, looking dazed, and shook her head.
Wen Yanqing, held around the waist by Lin Gantang being swayed, grew softer at heart and increasingly found her coquetry irresistible.
“Alright, let go, look at the little cat trying to carry your Star of Bethlehem away,” Wen Yanqing said softly.
Lin Gantang turned her head only to see both cats squeezing into the decoration box, with Miaowan biting the Star of Bethlehem and the small lights wrapped around Big Mi.
Lin Gantang moved to intervene, but her step faltered as Wen Yanqing was still holding her.
Lin Gantang gave him a puzzled look, “Aren’t you going to let go?”
He was the one who asked her to let go, yet he wouldn’t release his hold.
Wen Yanqing looked at her, then lowered his head and bit her lip forcefully.
Lin Gantang didn’t understand, but subconsciously felt she should return the kiss, which finally made him let go.
