Chapter 1012: Bachelor/Bachelorette Party
?
Tom and Lucy arrived at Sonia's and Bryan's home when it was time for the party. Tom offered Lucy his arm as she got out of the car and she smiled, looping hers through his.
The front door swung open before they could knock. Jade stood there, a glass of wine in her hand and a playful scowl on her face. "You're late!" she teased, stepping aside to let them in. "It's only five minutes past seven," Tom replied with a shrug.
"Five minutes is late when you're the celebrants," Jade quipped, giving Lucy a pointed look. "But it's better late than never, so I'll let it slide."
Lucy laughed. "Thanks, Jade. I need to go say hello to the baby first," she said, glancing toward the hallway that led to the nursery.
Sonia and the baby had been discharged the previous evening after spending twenty four hours at the hospital and were cleared to go home.
Jade rolled her eyes. "Of course you do. Go ahead, but don't take forever. The games are about to start. We have less than two hours fifty minutes thanks to Tom."
"I just want to hold him for a minute," Lucy said, while Tom laughed softly.
"Thanks for being so understanding," he said to Jade as Lucy tugged him toward the guest bathroom.
She washed her hands carefully, sanitizing them afterward, while Tom waited patiently by the door. "You don't need to rush," he said, watching her with affection.
"I need to. They're all waiting for us," she said as she dried her hands. "Come on."
"It's not like they're bored. I'm sure they're all having fun while waiting," Tom said with a shrug as he followed her.
They walked to the nursery, where they found Evelyn and Desmond standing by the crib. Evelyn held the newborn, cooing softly as she rocked him. At the sight of Lucy, Evelyn beamed. "Lucy! You look beautiful," she said warmly.
"Thank you," Lucy replied, stepping closer. "May I?"
"Of course." Evelyn carefully handed the baby over, and Lucy cradled him in her arms with practiced ease. Her face softened as she gazed at the tiny bundle, his tiny fingers curling slightly in his sleep.
"How are you feeling today?" Desmond asked Lucy.
"I'm very fine," Lucy said without looking away from the baby, "he looks so sweet. I can't believe such a sweet little being came from Sonia."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Sonia asked as she walked into the room and they all laughed.
"It means my sweet baby Sonia is now a mother to a baby of her own. Stop feeling attacked," Lucy said with a sweet smile.
"I can bet my last buck that's not what you meant," Sonia said with a sweet smile of her own. Tom stood by the door, his hands in his pockets, watching the scene unfold. A smile tugged at his lips as he imagined their own baby in a few months. The thought filled him with a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
How soon should he start preparing the nursery? When should they start shopping? Now that he thought about it, they were yet to give their babies nick names.
Lucy turned to him, her eyes shining. "Do you want to hold him?"
Tom took a step back, shaking his head quickly as he raised both hands in confusion. "I... I don't know how to hold babies."
Evelyn chuckled, and Desmond grinned. "It's not that hard, Tom," Desmond said encouragingly.
Lucy laughed softly, her expression teasing. "How are you planning to hold our baby, then? Don't tell me you plan to leave it all to me."
"No. I'll learn by then," Tom replied, his voice earnest. His gaze softened as he looked at her, and the three others in the room couldn't help but smile at the warmth between them.
After a few more moments of cooing over the baby, Lucy handed him back to Evelyn. "He's perfect," she whispered.
"He gets it from his mom," Sonia said, earning her a snort from Lucy that made Evelyn and Desmond laugh.
"You can call me if he's up. We will be at the backyard," Sonia told Evelyn, and she waved her off.
"I can take care of my grandson. Don't worry about a thing. Have fun. But make sure you stay off your feet. You still need to rest no matter how strong you feel," Evelyn advised and Sonia nodded before walking away with Lucy and Tom.
The backyard was buzzing with life. Strings of lights twinkled overhead, casting a soft glow over the scene. A large table was set up with snacks and drinks, and several couples were already mingling and laughing.
"This setting reminds me of your engagement party," Lucy said, and Sonia laughed.
"It does, doesn't it?" she asked with a small smile.
"Tyler!" Lucy shrieked when she saw Tyler approaching them with a wide grin, and she hurried over to embrace him.
"You didn't think I'd miss your wedding to this first love snatcher, did you?" Tyler asked with a grin and both Lucy and Tom laughed.
"It's good to see you again," Tom said, shaking hands with him.
"I guess you're smiling at me now because she is marrying you and you no longer see me as a threat," Tyler said, making Tom laugh.
"You were never a threat. It's cute that you thought so," Tom said, slapping his shoulder playfully before walking away to go join Harry.
"This man of yours is too full of himself," Tyler said as they watched him go, and Lucy
laughed.
"That's part of his charm," she said as they joined the others.
Jade approached them, dragging Sharon who had just arrived with her. "Finally! Let's get started. Tyler and Sharon will be co-emceeing the party since they do not have partners. The rest of us will play the couple games."
Tyler laughed as he shook hands with Sharon, "I say we become partners and join the couple games. Let's leave them to look for an emcee amongst themselves."
Sharon laughed, "I think that's a good idea."
Lucy laughed as she looked from Sharon to Tyler with amusement, "I guess Jade and Harry will co-emcee as the maid of honor and best man."
Tyler and Sharon laughed with Lucy, while Jade eyed them all with playful annoyance as she walked away to go get Harry.
Soon they all gathered together around the table: Tom and Lucy, Harry and Jade, Bryan and Sonia, Amy and Lucas, Philip and Aurora, Matt and Candace, Andy and Alex, and Sharon and
Tyler.
Although latter two had only just met but seemed to be getting along well, their laughter blending with the rest.
"We're starting with a game!" Jade announced as she brought out two seats and made Tom and Lucy sit with their backs to each other.
"These two are always acting like the couple of the century. Let's see how well they know each other," Jade said, making everyone laugh.
"So, the way this game goes, if the answer is true, you raise the right hand. If it is false, you raise the left hand. You can't consult with each other," Jade said, and they both nodded.
Harry held the list of questions, "So, for your first question. Lucy likes bad guys, true or false?" Harry asked, making everyone that understood the question to laugh, including Tom
and Lucy.
They both raised their left hands, and Harry raised a brow, "Lucy kindly tell us why we are all gathered here if you don't like bad guys," Harry said dryly, and they all laughed.
"Tom is not a bad guy. He was only misled," Lucy said in his defense.
Jade and Bryan snorted simultaneously, "By whom, please?" Bryan asked, making everyone
laugh.
"They know themselves," Lucy said with a giggle.
"To the next question. Before Lucy showed up, Tom liked toxic women, true or false?" Harry
asked, and Tom scowled at him.
"You're a bastard," Tom said, making Harry chuckle.
"Don't hate the emcee, hate the question," he said, and everyone laughed.
Lucy raised her right hand while Tom raised his left hand making everyone laugh. "Lucy, are you sure you don't want to reconsider walking down the aisle with him tomorrow? He's defending his exes," Harry said, and chuckled when Tom glared at him, throwing curses
at him that made everyone laugh.
The humorous questions continued, leaving the atmosphere lighthearted and filled with laughter as Harry and Jade slowly walked the couple down memory lane with their questions.
The games continued, and as the night went on, the atmosphere grew even more cheerful. Sharon and Tyler bonded over the games, while Amy and Lucas won a charades round with their synchronized guessing.
At one point, Jade raised her glass. "Alright, everyone, let's toast to the bride and groom! Lucy and Tom, here's to a lifetime of happiness, love, and-" she paused, grinning mischievously, "lots of babies!"
Tom laughed, clinking his glass with Lucy's. "We'll take the happiness and love," he said, glancing at her with a smile. "The rest, one step at a time."
As the party wound down, Tom pulled Lucy aside, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Having
fun?" he asked, his voice low and warm.
"Surprisingly, yes," she admitted, leaning into him. "You?"
"Same. But I'm ready to go home now. Want to go to bed so that tomorrow can come faster."
"Just a little longer," she said, pressing a kiss to his lips.
