Chapter 987 Leaving the City of Immortals

Chapter 987 Leaving the City of Immortals

Just like Xuan Bo, Shun Long had also been curious about this 'City of Immortals' and the purpose it served. After all, he had already learned a long time ago that there was no such thing as a free lunch in the cultivation world!

Even those ancient inheritances left behind by powerful cultivators who had already passed away, usually hid their own dangers and tribulations; whether that was some sort of karmic ties that needed to be resolved or more direct problems.

It was only after finding out that the 'City of Immortals' was the trial grounds of an immortal sect, that Shun Long had an idea of what the 'Imperial Mandate sect' wanted to do.

And now that the old man had answered Xuan Bo's question, Shun Long could finally piece together the last parts that the old man had yet to reveal.

Since the old man had now confirmed that the 'Imperial Mandate sect' was the sect responsible for the mortal worlds within its territory, Shun Long knew that his original guess had been right all along.

The 'Imperial Mandate sect' was, at the very least, a second-tier power in the 'Immortal Dimension', and perhaps even a first-tier one... although the latter was quite unlikely.

After all, it was relatively common for those second-tier immortal sects to look for geniuses within their territory and provide them with enough resources to grow. Once those disciples ascended to the 'Immortal Dimension', they were pretty much guaranteed to enter the sect in the future, so not only were those powers not losing anything by doing this, but they stood to gain even more by scouting the most talented disciples of their adjacent mortal worlds.

Most of those disciples may not be as talented as the strongest geniuses of the sect, but occasionally, there were bound to be a few exceptional cases like Shun Long, Xuan Bo, and the other participants in the seventh trial.

As for Xuan Bo's thoughts of joining another power?

Shun Long knew that if the 'Imperial Mandate sect' was really the overlord of a world in the 'Immortal Dimension', then other than those third-tier powers in its territory, there would be no other sect, kingdom, or family at the same level as them. So, if Xuan Bo really intended to join another second-tier power he'd have to travel out of the world the 'Imperial Mandate sect' was responsible for.

However, what the young prince of the Tianxuan dynasty didn't seem to know, was that the 'Immortal Dimension' was nothing like the central continent, both in terms of size and the dangers it hid.

Even the smallest of its worlds were so vast, that powerful immortals would have to travel for countless years just to reach from one edge to the other, let alone enter another world.

So why would the 'Imperial Mandate sect' be afraid of spending abundant resources to cultivate potential disciples? After all, they were all going to end up in its territory, so the sect would be the one to benefit in the end.

Shaking his head, the old man looked around him, as if assessing the damage the ancient arena had suffered after Shun Long's fight with Xuan Bo, before he continued

''Alright you brats, the trial grounds are about to close so I'm sending you out along with everyone else. Do you have any last questions?''

At that moment Xuan Bo turned to look at Shun Long, his gaze a mixture of defiance, unwillingness, and anger, as the powerful young prince said

''I may have lost this time, but I've yet to temper my foundations to the same level as you brats who are merely Dao Kings! The next time we meet, however, I assure you that this fight will have a very different outcome!''

Narrowing his eyes, Shun Long merely glanced at Xuan Bo without giving him a response, angering him even further.

Seeing that scene, the edge of the purple-robed overseer's lips curved upwards forming a slight, almost indiscernible smile, before he suddenly took a single step forward.

The old man could tell that Xuan Bo's pride had been wounded after his fight with Shun Long, but whether the young prince could advance further in his cultivation or end up forming an inner demon would be up to him. It wasn't the old man's job to interfere any further.

In the next moment, Shun Long felt the ground beneath his feet violently tremble as if an earthquake had suddenly struck the arena, before an irresistible force enveloped his body. Then, under the old man's smiling gaze, Shun Long saw his surroundings blur and distort, as the familiar feeling of spatial fluctuations enveloped him once more.

A moment later, Shun Long and the powerful prince both vanished from the ancient coliseum, as their time in the 'City of Immortals' finally came to an end!

...

The next time he opened his eyes, Shun Long found himself surrounded by a sea of Dao King and Dao Emperor realm cultivators, all of them standing in front of the majestic city gates of the 'City of Immortals'.

And yet, despite their vast numbers that were easily in the millions, these geniuses of the central continent were now silent as they all stared at the mirage of the gigantic, floating city in the sky.

Shun Long could even see a few Sovereign realm experts standing in the sky a few kilometers away, but even they were acting no different from these Dao Kings and Dao Emperors, staring at the mirage of the enormous city in deference.

Eventually, just as everyone expected, the outline of the 'City of Immortals' began to fade and turn transparent, as if it was about to disappear from the central continent, and a few moments later... it truly vanished in front of everyone's eyes.

Finally, the surrounding Dao Kings and Dao Emperors exploded in a cacophony of noise, a myriad of different emotions in their voices as these geniuses stepped foot on the central continent once more after an entire decade!

Many of them had obtained powerful treasures, as well as cultivation techniques and martial skills, while others now possessed near-endless resources that would practically guarantee their ascension to the next realm.

It was almost certain that after this decade, the entire landscape of the central continent was going to change, as the end of the 'City of Immortals' was bound to give birth to countless powerful experts!

And yet, the azure-robed youth who had obtained the most out of everyone was now standing in the heart of this sea of people, coming face to face with the prince of the Tianxuan dynasty.

Extending his hand, Xuan Bo's cold eyes looked straight at Shun Long, thoroughly ignoring the surrounding Dao Kings and Dao Emperors, as the young prince said in a commanding tone

''Hand it over.''
